She talks with Outsports about gay-conversion therapy, her passion for Mixed Martial Arts and her post-coming-out fears
Fallon Fox never wanted to talk about being transsexual. The professional MMA fighter who's been tearing through opponents has been a woman to her training partners and opponents for the last five years. Now, due to circumstances beyond her control, she's being forced out of the closet well before she was ready.
"For years I've known at some point it's very likely the shoe would drop," Fox told Outsports in a phone interview Tuesday. "Maybe someone would guess that I'm trans. Maybe they would know me from my life before I transitioned. I've been waiting for that phone call to happen. And Saturday night, it happened."
Fox was at dinner celebrating a victory when a call came through. It was from a reporter who asked probing questions that clearly lead to one conclusion: The reporter knew Fox's secret past. Within 48 hours she got a call from a former trainer who had been interviewed by the same reporter with the same questions. The secret of Fallon Fox was about to come out.

Fallon Fox didn't plan to reveal to the world she's a transgender woman, but as a professional mixed martial arts fighter with a string of victories to her credit, she knew her private past could be thrust into the spotlight at any moment.
The call Fox had been dreading since her MMA career began six years ago, came while she was at dinner celebrating her latest victory. It was from a reporter asking questions, which revealed the journalist was aware of Fox's past. Two days later, a former trainer also called Fox and informed the athlete that the same reporter had asked her similar questions. That's when Fox decided to take matters into her own hands with a public announcement.

MIAMI -
The Florida State Boxing Commission postponed the next fight for a transgender woman competing in a mixed-martial arts all-women tournament to review her license.
Fox's next CFA fight was postponed as the Florida State Boxing Commission reviews her license due to a discrepancy on her application.
Fox told the Commission she was licensed in California when in fact she is not.
Russ Heimerich of the California State Athletic Commission said he can understand why she would think she was licensed there. He said after paying her $60 application fee, Fox was given a cut-off sheet indicating proof of licensure to present at a weigh-in when in fact it takes four to six weeks to process a license application. Her license in California is still under review.
Meantime, Sandi Copes Poreda, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation told Local 10 in an e-mail: "Fallon Fox was issued a Florida license at the MMA event in Coral Gables. Her license has not been suspended. She also applied for a national ID card, the approval of which is pending...Our Department is currently investigating alleged discrepancies in the information provided on the application. Additionally, the Florida State Boxing Commission is in the process of updating the rules for professional MMA events and this topic will be included in an upcoming workshop on changes to the administrative rules. We have not received a formal complaint from Fox's opponent at this time."
