Title: How the hell do you get out of a binder?!
Post by: Joe. on March 19, 2013, 06:41:03 PM
I mostly read about people having problems getting the binder on, but I just couldn't get the thing off! I did eventually after a lot of pulling and breathing problems. It rolled around the stomach above my hips and below my moobs and it got so thick it was like a massive elastic band digging into my skin. I got out of it eventually and I'm over the moon that I have one, but surely there must be an easy way out?

Oh god, I remember having that same panic, around my grandmother's sister's house.  I've got one binder that is stretched out enough just to pull it over my head like I would a T-shirt, but I would really not recommend that for new binders, I tried and thought my shoulders had dislocated.  For a long while I had to pull it off how I put it on, get my arms and shoulders out, then fold it down over my stomach and pull down, making sure it doesn't do the rolling thing.

Oh, and congrats on getting the binder!

Augh, having a panic attack getting in or out of a binder is terrible. The main trick I've found is trying to avoid the rolling, like AlexanderC said, since it increases the constriction and you lose precious stretching room that way. You have to mess around to figure out how to do it.

Yeah, back before I cut my Double Front to a reasonable length, if it got rolled up on it's way off, I was pretty much stuck. Avoiding the roll is the best thing to do- fold like Alex and Brainiac said.

I used to reach my arm through the armpit and then pull it off

Yeah, the trick is to avoid the roll.  I get the bottom of the binder and fold it up so it's at about armpit level, then I grab the bottom edge and pull.

I figure if you haven' had this particular breed of panic attack you haven't been inducted yet lol ;) I still remember pacing around my room with my arms stuck straight up in the air trying to figure out what the to do!
I found the easiest way to get out of any binder (or at least the two different ones that I own) is to bend forwards slightly, reach over your head, grab the end and pull up from the back, over your head and it'll come right off. If you have a longer binder grab the bottom and pull it up, doubling it over your chest, then just do the overhead grab and wiggle. Like others said, the second you start rolling it it gets bulkier, and while it's getting bulkier it's getting tighter.

It pretty much gets to the point where it's stuck and your stuck unable to breathe right and in discomfort. Depending on which one you have (for example if you have underworks double compression) you can just pull your arms out and pull it down from the bottom, and just step out of it.

When I bound I would step into my binder and pull it up to get it on, and do the same thing in reverse to get it off. It took some contorting to get my arms out of the arm holes, but from there it wasn't too bad to kind of shimmy it down my body. I have a tiny waist and fairly narrow hips though, so this might not work for everyone. Like it's been said, avoid letting it roll up.
