Title: Trying to remember a book...
Post by: PHXGiRL on April 02, 2013, 12:37:52 PM
Ok I'm sitting here rekindling in some of my favorite reads when I was a child and one book comes to memory the most I can't recall the title.

The cover had I believe a girl with freckles on it. Maybe it was called "if I was a girl for a day?". The story is of a little boy and dreams about being a girl. Swinging on monkey bars and wearing pony tails. It's been well over 15 years since I read it.

Any help would be appreciated I'd like to get it off Amazon. :)

I spent a fair 20 minutes trying to help find this on Google (finding things on Google for people is like a scavenger hunt for me, I don't know, I'm a bit strange!) and I could not come up with anything at all. I really tried a lot of sources and angles. If you can remember, I think one thing that would help is: was the book cover illustrated or unillustrated? Was the cover a focus on the girl's face or a much wider shot of a character doing something? Having that sort of information would make it simpler to quickly browse book cover displays.

Anyhow, I'm sorry I couldn't help. I hope you manage to run across it soon!

It was illustrated. There was not a bunch of words in it. Very easy read for a 8-9 year old... I can't remember exactly what was on the cover.

I searched susans and found a girl that posted this book from her child hood. I wonder if its the same one? Looks like this one was in Europe though. I could tell if I saw the pages on the inside of it. As I said she talks about being on the monkey bars, hanging upside down, hair blowing lol. It was such a awesome book! lol.. I loved it as a kid. Just never really thought about it till today.

I have a mind like a steel trap, old and rusty..........er, that doesn't sound right. I have a thicker head than an elephant!  No, that's not it, either. A better mousetrap never forgets? Oh, I give up.

Did you buy the book, like through Scholastic Books? That would narrow it down. Hugs, Devlyn

I searched around for some lines from Bill's New Frock, and it definitely seems wordy. It looks like it's a book about challenging gender stereotypes. It's also about a 100-page book. I'm not sure that's the right one?

I also don't think you should feel like an idiot. Forgetfulness happens to everybody!

Okay, so it's not the book, but it was made into a 30 minute show, which I just got finished watching. Fascinating, quite funny, and also a bit of envy throughout, I found.

[Part 1/3] Bill's New Frock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA7_Qap_M9U&list=UUwvrF6m5IbzO6NZjlpoBsgA#)

The link above is the first of 3 parts; hope you enjoy it, Serena!
