So, this seems like a fun topic. What clothes are you uncomfortable with wearing? I won't lay out any rule sother than lease don't say male clothes. We all might not agree on everything but I think we agree that drab, functional, droll male clothes SUCK. Maybe not.
Colored skinny jeans.
I just can't rock them. And it's not like I don't like bright colors cause I do. And wear a lot of brightly colored tops and tees. Fun colored combos are definitely in. Well I think so. But no colored skinny jeans for me. You don't have to say just one. That's just me.

Lace and/or Ribbon on anything. For some reason the stuff makes my skin crawl.

Unfortunately, spaghetti straps, and pretty much anything sleevless. Because despite how much I would LOVE to wear them, my damned arms are still too big for them, and the back of my neck is probably my most masculine body part, so anything that reveals those two things is pretty much out of the question. Some day... some day, damn it! I swear it! I've been dying to wear those since I was like 12.
Well, at least I can wear jean shorts now. Those look awesome! So at least that's one half of the summer outfit that I always envied the most, even if I can't wear the top part yet.

Mini skirts... While I still have man legs anyway.
Good with just about anything else :).

Shapeless, loose fitting, oversized tops that drape and hang and cover up my curves and hide any cleavage and hide my waistline too.
I used to wear those a lot when I was androgynous in my presentation, because I could wear female clothes (helped with the dysphoria) while still allowing me to pass as male sort of.
Since I no longer need to pass as male, I am much happier with tops that show there's a woman underneath. Even though they also show that I'm well marbled in my flank steaks.
I gave almost all of my old tops to my cisgender wife, who can pull off wearing them and still look beautifully feminine.

Same! I wear them at home and it just feels so comfortable but my arms are quite large and I just think, huh, that doesn't work!
I also love a nice dress but still getting used to skirts. Whether I can pull it off or not, I'm still getting used to them but strangely dresses just fit so well!

My mom has a habit of giving me stuff like this during christmas, and while I do find a big loose sweat a comfort item, I as well cant stand this type of tops either. on a positive note I almost am ready for a yard sale ::)

I only dress around the house, and when I'll put on a pair of women's jeans and a top when I'm on my way to therapy. But pretty much everything that's sold in the fashion stores at the mall is off limits for me. Especially dresses and strap tops since they just look outrageously bad on me.
Good thing it's summer because it's time for shorts, simple tops or tees, and flat sandals.

Dresses and skirts. Most everything else is fine, although I'm a little iffy on shorts too since my legs look more appropriate for a chicken than a person. I'm most comfortable in casual clothing, jeans or nice pants with a nice top, but nothing low cut.

Black: Because it drowns out my hair
Anything frilly
Tight skirts. I have great legs but my hips aren't shaped right for them. I love loose skirts and get lots of attention in those.
Short shirts. I usually put on an undershirt if they don't come down low enough. I got my moms torso which is kinda wide up top so they don't look right at all.

I don't think I could wear a dress and I'm not even going to try because I'm not so inclined. I'm short, and though fit I am top heavy, a former football fullback. I do like my skinny jeans, own six pairs now, love tight fitting Victoria's Secret tops, have several colors of long sleeved T's both in crew neck and V-neck over either an underwire or soft bra depending on time and place. Finally got over self-consciousness about boobs showing. :)

For me, being larger, plus-sized (okay, fat) tight clothing and tailored stuff is out. A couple of women have criticized me for wearing clothing up to a couple of sizes bigger but I find it works usually in my favour plus I can get away with being femme and passing. (There's no inbetween for me, I pass better at high femme or soft butch but prefer the casual look inbetween).
Anything with lace, frills or ribbons. Some people are grammar nazis. I'm a simplicity nazi.
Hosiery - tights, stockings, etc. It's not that I'm uncomfortable wearing them per se, on general principle. It's just that I have problems buying them, sizes appear to be completely random, and you can end up with anything between a pair which comes right up to your bust or which barely covers your bahookie.
I think that's the worst, because there's nothing worse than walking along the street somewhere and feeling that your underwear is slowly creeping down over your thighs in the general direction of your feet.

I am really uncomfortable wearing womens slacks or trousers as I dont yet have a rounded bottom or hips, although my upper thighs are increasing a little. Plus although I would love to wear a bikini, my tummy looks aweful so it only a one piece for me.
Luckily my bust is starting to look good as I am already a 20 B Cup, so I like to wear tops that accentuate the bust and fall from the bust line, so no tight fitting tops. I also love to wear dresses and skirts. My favourites are my A line dresses. I have a whole wardrobe of sleeveless dresses with some that accentuate my growing bust, but with the high gathered waist.
I love maxi dresses too, but being only 5'7" really need heels to wear them.
I woulsd love to wear skinny jeans, but I until I get more of a rounded bottom I dont think I could pull it off.
Although my legs are not too bad, since an operation I have to wear pantihose, to hide a scar on one, but I do try to go for a 5 or 7 denier sheer, and I love openm toe pantihose.
Black or White though is not a good colour for me as I am very fair skinned, unless its teamed with other items
So I am definitly a femme, as i want to present as feminine as possible.
I do have a couple of long coloured (pink/Red/Orange) tops that I wear with black leggings only and thats works well for me.
When I fully transitioned before, I gave all of my male clothese away to the Charity shop, except one pair of jeans, but then a Cis gendered girlfriend insisted on shredding them, so that I would not be tempted to slip back, as I then only had skirts and dresses. It was a good measure.
For shoes I love wearing heels, but these days I am mostly using Wedges that give me the stability (just a lack of practice), but my changing shape as I get the womanly curves from the HRT (4.5mths now with very low T) is helping, but I need to lose about 12 kilos from my tummy, and wearing my sexy corset is starting to strangely give me a natural sway when walking (Its easier to sway the hips than not). My deportment coach says the posture from the corset and heels are all helping.

I like to shop at thrift stores & really just buy everything in my size. Then just slowly see if it feels & looks good on me. It is fun & the total cost is minimum. I return any unused clothes.
The workers are very nice to me & they make me nicer deals on clothes that are not priced.
They can usually tell I'm not a natural woman however they are always helpful & nice to me.

I have a weird aversion to foam, as in the type of foam you might find in padded bras, or a mattress topper. It completely destroys me to touch it, and I don't know why. My skin just hates it.
Any type of hosier (pantyhose, nylon stockings, etc) does the exact same thing. I wouldn't be uncomfortable wearing them beyond that bizarre reaction I have to them, as I've worn thigh high cotton socks with skirts in the winter... I really wish it didn't do that to me.

So many great replies. But I know we have a lot more active members who haven't played yet, so play. Hey, even if you're fine with anything, say it. After that thread yesterday, which I won't lie it did bring me a lot of amusement, we are at the end of the day a support site and so I kinda wanted to start a let's get to know one another thread. We're so much more alike then different. And, if anything, the need and desire to be able to wear the clothes that reflect that gender of our brain is, IMO, the one thing that unites us.
I just got back from a bar (I drank two beers, don't worry) and my friend got a little weird since some random woman said to me we made a cute couple and that my BF is cute. He got a little weird but he's cool. I still can't believe it. I mean I bought cover f/x from Sephora and asked the sales guy the best foundation to cover up beard shadow and then even tried some on! If you would told me two months ago that I would be able to walk into Sephora and try on makeup and then go to H&M and shop in the women's section witrhout people staring or running away and then buy panties, leggings and some really cute tops. I would've told you, you're nuts. Sorry for the tangent I just can't believe it! Shopping in the women's section is something I've dreamed of since I was around age 10/11. And just to think last night I cried myself to sleep because I didn't think I could do any of this and that I need to face reality that I'll never look like a girl, never have a BF or anything and that the best I'll ever be able to do is find a butch GF because the only time ive ever really been happy is when i was engaged to this pretty butch girl. But then today happened. OMG WOW! Like just wow.
Anyhoo, let's hear some more responses. And I'll tell you why i don't like colored skinny jeans: cuz I feel like I look like an out-of-place superhero who didn't get the memo that we wear our underwear on the outside hehehe

I don't like swearing sleeveless shirts. Even after many many years I'm self conscious in that area. Same thing god for skirts and dresses since I don't like my big duck feet. All pure craziness on my part, though, I'm sure. :) I wear trouser suits to work, and I have a good shape a least.

Men's or women's trouser suits? Either way, they're totally fun workwear. And if you have a good shape, if you don't wear women's, maybe find some more unisex ones, unless it's a very socially conservative workplace, then stick with what you're doing.

Or "scrubs", my spouse is in the medical field and she wears the pants around the house as pajamas sometimes, I just couldn't do that, lol
I do luv my mini skirts, tight skinny jeans and form fitting tops and I'm getting better with sleeveless things lately.

I feel just the opposite, which was completely unexpected when I began experimenting with clothes that work best. Anything with sleeves gets me clocked right away. Halter tops work best for me. Long sleeves is a disaster for me.
Long sleeves for an older person are a girl's best friend because the skin on the inside of the arms gets a crepe-like appearance due to age and I can assure you that you'll all get there soon enough. :'(
When dressing girly one has to consider the problem areas and dress around them just as cis females do who want to look good. We don't wear a wide belt if we have a big waist as it only accentuates the problem like jeans with sparkles on the back side accentuates a butt problem. We don't wear empire waistlines if we have a big chest and broad shoulders, and we don't wear 14" skirts or Daisy Duke cut-off jeans even if we do have dynamite legs because we're not 14 anymore and don't want everyone around us to say, "Oh look, there's a man in a skirt!" :icon_peace:

Any top that shows an part of my chest, neck, back, upper arms or collar.
Yep, the only tops I wear are turtle necks.
Sometime before the hot weather, I'll have to shave my chest, upper arms, shoulders, neck, collar, etc. I'll also have to find a way to clear my upper back (professional wax?) since there is not way I can shave back there.
I'm looking forward to having the hair cleared but not to the weekly shaving chore it will bring.

There is a lot of things I won't wear. But the main one is dresses for now I love them but just don't feel like I have the body for one. And the fact my family is somehow convinced that's all I wear I don't know where they get that idea from but they do. So I avoid dresses altogether for the time being.

No problemo fo sho lo if people want to post what they're most comfy wearing, then go ahead. As long as it isn't sweatpants. When i become President, my first order of business will to pass an executive order outlawing sweatpants in public...and PJ bottoms lol

I have to admit that nothing nowadays is as bad as it was in the 1980's.
I'm firmly of the opinion that the 1980's was the worst decade in recent history to be transgendered..
I mean, like clothing in flourescent colours? T-shirts with large words written on them like 'Freedom' and 'Choose life'..
Then there was mullets, rat tails in hair, oh and not forgetting perms.
Shell suits anyone?
Then you had stone-washed and acid-washed denim, jeans with rips in them, clothes with fringes, Pringle sweaters, pencil skirts, skirts with slits in them.
Not to mention leg warmers, ski pants (or stirrup pants if you prefer), and Moon boots.
Wish we still had 1980's music though.

Short skirts.. I have the legs for them, they are just not me. Odd thing is that I can happily wear quite short shorts..
But then, I'm happiest in a pair of jeans, a nice top and my Cons..
Sorry, Joanna, I can't agree with this.
It's been made painfully obvious to me many times that I have very little in common with most people here. Hence why I refer to myself as the Trans-Rebel. I continue to post here in the hope that my somewhat rebellious opinions will help those that are as different as me..

Yeah, what's with shoulder pads for women? I never could wrap my head around that concept. What woman want's to look like a football fullback anyway? >:(

I can't wrap my head around fashion, period.
Clothes that looked absolutely amazing last year are suddenly too horrid to be seen in. Seriously?!?
Seems just like a way for the garment industry to milk their market for a few extra bucks so we have to replace our clothes every year.

Yup my lament, it's all about the money! Although I still want to have some color, style and choices in my wardrobe whereas before in man mode there was nothing that has changed in 100 years, same drab colors, same drab cuts, ugh!

At least at work I don't have to worry about fashion trends. :) I just buy suits in classic cuts that look good for a while - however I don't think the single button jackets or the shoulder pads look good on many people in general.
shantel:
They don't look bad on tiny girls with sloping shoulders I guess, but all the women I work with have straight shoulders anyway so I don't see why anyone would want to wear this stuff.

I have recently grown a real fondness for short sleeve shirts with long lenghth body and a low v-cut neck or other low (for cleavage) opening, I am kinda out on the the sleeveless however, I dont like or dislike and am not really sure how I look in them I will have to ask some opinions here fairly soon

Yes me too, I like the cap sleeves in long body V-neck cut with the clingy bodice like those from Victoria's Secret.

Maybe. I'm probably a lot more sensitive than Kelly is though. I'm also seriously considering stopping the HRT and just going back to try and live some kind of life as a man. I'm never going to look like a woman and I can't deal with being known as Trans so I don't know. Sorry.

No need to apologize.
I get ya, I think. It's frustrating and disheartening getting clocked and misgendered while holding little hope yourself that things will ever get better. I got reminders of that today in my own life.

I mean I'm not really presenting as female it's just that there's this voice in my head that keeps telling me you'll never, ever pass in a million years and will be clocked 100 percent of the time. Then there is this other competing voice that says once you get laser and whatnot and give the HRT more than a month and start taking full-dose spiro not a quarter of a full dose, you'll be fine. I'm not just going to stop now right this instant, I guess I'm just scared. It's perfectly normal I think. All I hear sometimes in my head is my ex saying you're going to make the ugliest woman. Of course, this is the same woman who stopped me from plucking my eyebrows because she said she didn't want to go out with someone prettier then her. So...IDK lol The only thing I'm absolutely sure of is I am Trans and it is not going away.

Bad comments always stay with you the longest, especially when you have low-sefl esteem (which most tg do)
IMO if the picture in your avatar is you than you have no worries, you will do just fine.
Also if you are absolutelt sure you are tg, than realise this- if you dont transition and you put it off have no doubts its going to come back later to bite ya in bum.... and realise starting younger is definately better... soo that is my opinion, do with it as you wish- and hapiness is never over-rated..... p.s. I used to dislike short skirts but now they are quite nice!!

Yeah I'm kinda derailing the thread into my own personal woe is me fest lol sorry. Yeah the avatar is me but with virtual hair. But it looks exactly 100 percent like me. If anyone who knows me saw it, they would know it is me in one second. Probably less than a second. it's pre-HRT so I'm hoping once my hair grows out I can post a pic of me without virtual hair. So, thanks so much for the comment I kinda needed it. I am starting to change face wise. But not enough for all the sir stuff to stop but it's HRT not some magic story from Fictionmania.
But if there is one thing I am sure of it is that I'm Trans. I knew when I was six. I really, really knew when I was about 11. When you're six you really don't understand. I understood full well at age 11 when I fist saw Quantum Leap and started dreaming I could leap thru time get stuck in a girl's body and then be happy. That's why I try not to entertain stopping transition. I know is it works I will be happy. I mean I'm not even on a full dose yet but after 30 years like this ya get antsy.
But me ex said a lot of hurtful things about it when she should really thank me since I could have just lied and not told her. I was 100 percent honest from the get-go after it got serious. She actually encouraged it until she realized she wasn't a lesbian which apparently took four years. I don't act uber-femme or anything I just act like myself which I guess would be considered tomboyish for a girl and girly girl for a guy. Anyhoo....sorry for the thread tangent. I feel like hijacked my own thread.
Yeah short skirts rock if you can rock them. I always liked short cullotes as long as they aren't too wide my self and as long as they're short enough. I should design my own, if I could.

No need to go to the tailor.
I own a tool called a "seam ripper" for cutting the threads that hold the shoulder pads. Mine is named "Jack".
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffindarichhusband.files.wordpress.com%2F2013%2F02%2Fseamripper1.jpg&hash=43c22208b78bd869d9e9764a6184332a04de5b95)
But in a pinch, a pair of finger nail clippers will also let you cut the threads that tack the pads to your jacket or dress.
Just make sure you only cut the threads that connect the pad to the garment. Normally only the corners of the pads will be sewn in, so it is easy to find the right threads to cut.

However, I'd still have to take a seam apart and get into it to cut the threads. I think I'll stay lazy and pay the seamstress. :D

I found a top last night that I was not comfortable wearing. It was a thin, white, Egyptian style top. It looked great on me! The reason I am not comfortable wearing it is because you can see my nipples through it. You can't wear anything under it because it has no back, and does not fully cover my tummy because it is so short.

I actually dislike wearing jeans these days. I mainly wear skirts, but once in a while I'll wear jeans.
I think it has more to do with the fact that I've been gaining weight, than anything else, lol.

Maxi dresses. They don't look good on ANYONE, I'll never wear one unless it's that or go naked.
