Title: Re: Laser alternatives?
Post by: kathy bottoms on April 05, 2013, 07:43:58 AM
Much of my beard turned white so I looked into using laser with the hair dye that is supposed to darken hair deep into the roots.  I found a lot of individuals that said it worked well, and others that complained it was just a method to make it possible to temporarily remove very light, or white hair.  Yes, it does permanentely remove some of the blond or white target hairs, but the numbers by percent were too small for me to even consider.  But if you want is a smooth face for a few weeks at a time as the laser does it's thing, I guess it's great.  In my case I need something absolutely complete and permanent, so I dropped the idea.

I finally settled on electrolysis after visiting my current electrologist.  She transitioned several years ago and saw a need for a transgender electrologist in this part of California, and one who understood the needs of girls like herself.  So she took the oportunity and went to school to fill the void.  She's now successful, uses very good high energy equipment (operates at 27MHz) and has a couple clients that travel up to 100 miles to see her.  She's more expensive, but the machine she has is faster, and hurts a lot less than other equipment.

You should make an appointment with an electrologist who's trans freindly, or even better, someone who has transitioned.  It won't cost a cent to have that initial consultation, and it's an hour and a half of insight that you may not get from reading reviews or watching youtube.  Anyway, it can't hurt.

Take care.

Electro does sound scary. I'm nine or ten years older than you but when I was 21ish I couldn't grow facial hair for the life of me and the ones I could I ripped out of my chin. I'm not a doctor, but I think you'll be fine and maybe could use a session or two of laser just to zap any hair you do have. And you're right plenty of cis girls get facial hair. I now this one girl and she can grow a beard better then I can. So I wouldn't worry about the trans thing, but I know what you mean. But the E should have even more effect on the hair as you go along now that it is working better. My facial hair has ceased growing a lot. It used to take twelve hours before I could feel stubble now it's 24 hours. So maybe wait a little longer to see any new effects regarding facial hair growth. Congrats on your HRT working better.

A few laser sessions will remove any dark hair you have and that could lower the final cost of electrolysis.  It's something a laser specialist can answer, but it's also something you need to discuss with an  electrologist.

Don't worry about anything when you go into an electrologist.  I was a little anxious also, but she immediately put me at ease and now it's just another appointment I look forward to  The Apilus machine she uses is fantastic and really doesn't hurt exccept for work on the center of my upper lip.  And it might sound weird but I actually fell asleep for a short time during the last three sessions.  Hey, does anyone else reading this ever fall asleep?  I fell kind of stupid about it.

There are a lot of cis girls who have facial hair and see electrologists regularly, and it's probably one of the never talked about subjects these girls keep secret.  But one girl who worked for me took time almost every week for a short time to have her lip and sideburns done.  I present male for the appointments, but wear my hair down, and have on more androgynous tops.  The two girls in the office next door do look at me as I go past, but who cares?
