Title: Is it possible ( T )
Post by: cezcal20 on April 06, 2013, 02:29:47 PM
Is it possible to do a low dose and transition very slowly , like over the course of two years instead of one ?

Yes.  There are some guys that actually prefer that if they sing and would like to continue singing as well without having to go through a voice coach.  Mainly because it slows down the growth of the larynx to a more male speed to a more gradual voice drop rather than a rapid one.

You can take a lower dose, but a lower dose doesn't guaranty slow changes.
I take half the does I normally should yet after only 13 weeks I pass flawlessly and have experienced crazy changes.
So just monitor your changes closely and if it's coming in too strong lower your dose even more.

yes I know one ftm who did that to keep his singing voice, (personally I dont know if its really work better for singing, yes I had some unlucky periods with my voice but in general I think my singing voice is still okay?)

I think also if you take gel many people mention that changings happent more slow, however gell is pretty much a mess, where you need to put off time everyday to put it on, let it dry, taking a bath before maybe to keep the area clean or using glowers. I think its good for short terms but pretty annoying in the long run
specially if your living at home.

again T is diffrent from each so you cant really expect to change faster or more slow nessesarry, some people change alot very fast some changer slower and in other ways.

Yes, you can physically transition on a lower dose but I'd give it some thought if this is your main reason...

There will be changes and your family members will definitely notice them over time. You might want to wait until you're on your own if you don't think family can handle it. Do they know you've started T? What kind of drama are you anticipating from them?

Well i have been out as "Lesbian" ever since freshman year. That whole year and a part of this year was hell !! name calling, bullying, my mom mostly would be the one saying things like :"im not going to let you be an embarrassment to this family!!, your parents would be rolling in there graves, you are destroying this family, you are crazy..etc

Never tried kicking me out but she would say " if you arent going to go by our rules in this house then leave, get out" but they never forced me out or anything. She just tried to scare me into doing what she wants.

My girlfriend came here for spring break for the first time and my parents LOVE her and finally accept me as "lesbian"

I worked my @ss off to get to where i am now and i just feel that this is going to be one HELL of another fight

What would happen if she found your vials of T and needles etc stashed somewhere?  Would she flip out?

That could happen even if they don't notice changes.   Does she know anything about you being trans at all?

Be careful. Might be better to have the fight in a situation you control instead of her randomly deducing something is up. If she has tossed out the "get of the house if you can't follow the rules..." she might lose it if she finds out something on her own.

If she likes your GF, why not tell her something with your GF present, maybe that will make your mother behave?

It's very possible.
Most peoples transitions don't take just one year.
Transition goes on forever, unless one chooses to go back.
Some people like to ease into it slower,
Just let your doctor know that, and make them aware that you want to be on a low dose.
It's that simple. There's no requirement that you have to speed your transition along.
Go at a pace that is comfortable for yourself.

If i go on a slower pace/lower dose..will i still get the same results in the end as if i was on a normal dose ?

Yeah it's very possible. There's a doctor in Phoenix, I know of, who does this. He feels that shot-gunning, as he terms it, makes the sound of trans guys voices less good and pinched. There is a guy on youtube named Yanin who did this. He transitioned over something like 4 years. If you did a low enough dose you might not transition. I think there are genderqueer people who only go on very teensy doses, but it is my understanding that whatever changes you would make on T you will eventually make. It is just time.

But I have my doubts about keeping that much from your parents. I think it would theoretically be easiest on compounded cream as there are no needles to deal with, just a jar and measuring spoon. It would also be super easy to get a very low dose. The stuff has minimal smell. It takes about 2-4 minutes to dry. I think it is less messy than the gel since it takes less. It is more expensive than shots, but a jar that costs me $85 would maybe last 6 months on low dose. They also might get upset re routine changes such as taking a LONG time after your shower.

What about minor changes-- what if you start getting raspy throat. Will they be nagging you about going to the doctor and so on. My thinking is that they will consider changes indicative of a hormone disorder.

So I don't know about it. Sounds hard. But I think it might be theoretically, at least, possible. Small dose T might help you feel better. OTOH, might just annoy you more as your changes will be so slow.
