Kia Ora,
Just out of interest, after a while on T a long with other changes, there's a strong possibility of you going bald...
Are you comfortable with this possibility ?
I should point out, I've just watched a vlog [that ChrisJ PMed me] about a F2M who is talking about de-transitioning...
Metta Zenda :)

Well, I wouldn't say it's a strong possibility. I know there's kind of a myth going around that we're more likely to go bald than cis men, but I think it's more that it seems to happen more quickly for some guys. Or it's more of a surprise.
And no, I am not comfortable with the idea, but like all the other unpleasantries associated with T, it wasn't something that bothered me enough not to go through with it.
There isn't any baldness on either side of my family that I know of, so probably not something I'll have to personally confront. Thank god.

Kia Ora NSFA,
You make a good point, I guess the 'hereditary' factor needs to be taken into account...

I'm pre-T but I've considered it quite a bit. I don't know much about my father's side of the family; on the other hand, pretty much all of the men on my mother's side are bald or have really thin hair. From what I've seen, I'm going to be losing the hair on my head but growing a forest everywhere else. It's a concern, but the benefits outweigh the risks. I wear a hat all the time, anyway.

It would never be enough to make me not transition or stop T...I cant say I'm crazy about the idea, I don't think it would look good on me, but that's how it is. I have many options anyway - like take Rogaine, try to get a hot beach body to compensate... :P Or try to work with the bald look.

agree. I would never de-transition because of baldness but I am really not happy about the idea of maybe becoming bald. If I lost all of my hair, I just cant imagine that looking good on me, i'm short and skinny, when I think of guys with shaved heads I imagine them tall and buff. I guess I will just wear a lot of hats, maybe a wig depending on how bad I look with no hair.

Yeah, I think we're pretty similar to cismen in this regard. I don't know any cis guys crazy about the possibility either, but it's just one of those risks that comes with the territory. Cisguys don't have a choice to not go on T, and many of us don't really have that choice either.

If I go bald, then I go bald and shave off the little hair that's left. Then I'll just rock my baldness.
I don't know what kinda genes I got from my father's side but my grandfather from Mom's side had a nice full head of hair all the way through so that kinda gives me some hope I won't have to deal with some Dr. Phil style baldness.

Fun Fact: The baldness gene is only found on the X chromosome.

Yeah, I think there's confusion as to whether trans men have to worry about it from both sides or not.

They do, but the gene is recessive. From my understanding, maybe it's crap, an ftm would need both parents to carry the gene in order for him to get regular male pattern baldness, whereas with a cisman it would just depend on whether his mom has the gene or not.

Hmm... Maybe I should be more grateful for being XX, then. ;D

I don't know too many family members, but some of the older ones went somewhat bald and some didn't. I know my dad is headed that way despite his denial, yet his dad has a full head of hair. And so what if that happens? If it does, it would've likely happened if I were born a cisguy too. So I'll take that chance.

Kia Ora,
And thanks for the bunch of interesting replies...It's interesting to see how trans-guys feel about baldness...Many trans-women "pre HRT" also live with the fear of going bald...
Metta Zenda :)
