Title: Has anyone been to Callen-Lorde?
Post by: cezcal20 on April 11, 2013, 12:51:54 PM
Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with Callen-Lorde in NYC. They are a friendly LGBT place where they prescribe hormones. I have an appointment on the 23rd of this month. I was wondering if anyone went there for T? The lady on the phone said the first visit is for evaluation. What is an "evaluation"? Blood work? Then the second visit is when you get your shot and prescribe T.

I go there for T. An evaluation is usually just a basic check up and intro to your doctor. They run down what would happen with T and take blood work, there's a follow up that they talk about results and get your T.

Also, if you're low income, their pharmacy has T for about $30.

No problem. I didn't start going there for T (I went to a clinic in the Bronx), but that's the sort of thing I went through. I'm not sure if they do a psych evaluation too or not.

You can get your prescription sent to a local pharmacy in your area, but it will likely cost more (it was $120 for me). For me the evaluation thing was just talking to somebody about how I'm doing, if I'm suicidal, or anything like that. We discussed changes from T, etc. Now, I can't say it's going to be the same for you or not.

Patches are $300 for a month without insurance at a regular pharmacy if you want to compare.

$120 is for a multi use vial that can last anywhere between 5 months to a year.
