I know that for many here, travel is not a priority, they have more pressing issues to deal with...But one should still find time to dream...

I did one of these threads a while back...So just thought I'd reincarnate a dead thread...

Do you have the travel bug ? [I do but sadly don't have the funds to cure it] ;) ;D

However.............

I rode elephants in Thailand-Camels in desert of Rajasthan India -Ponies in the Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India.[also bought some nice teas there, plus a handmade rug and hippy shoulder bag, from Tibetan refugees]...

I've witnessed and experienced many weird and wonderful sights/things and had one or two close shaves with death... :icon_yikes:

There are many more places on my bucket list but I don't have the funds to plug the holes...

So what exotic places have you visited ? Or would like to visit ?

And if you have been fortunate enough to travel, what fond [or not so fond] lasting memories have you got from the places you have visited ?

I have always wanted to see Tristan de Cunha.  Just to get away from it all.

I've been to various places for various reasons, but right now I am where I am and would rather be somewhere else more comfortable

Many, many places. And always ready and willing to find another place to go to :)

I been to Paradise Island in the Bahamas, and Acapulco Mexico,

I would love to go to Rio De Janerio for Carnival, and Australia to dive the Great Barrier Reef.

I'm from Canada and I've been to England, Paris, Ireland, and Northern Ireland. I really want to go to Germany and Norway and I'd be happy see to many more places. Of course, now I have to worry about the status of trans rights in whatever countries I visit.

I've been on big international trips three times in my life.

In 1998 I went to Italy and Sicily for 2 weeks with my mom and my uncle, and we pretty much did the grand tour of the entire country.

In 2000, I went on a singing tour of England and Scotland with the Tampa Bay Children's Chorus,

and in late 2007, my mom was teaching in South Africa at the University of Limpopo, so she flew me and my uncle in, and we went on a two-week tour all over the country. That was, by far, the BEST vacation I have ever been on! South Africa is just an absolutely beautiful country. We spent a good week in the Drakensburg mountains, hiking the trails and driving around the backroads, watching the gorgeous sunsets, and eating some of the absolute best food I've ever had in my entire life. (It's amazing how much better beef that's raised by traditional farming methods tastes. Even the best American beef I've ever had tastes like shoe leather compared to South African beef.) Anyway, yeah, South Africa was simply amazing.

My biggest eventual travel goal is to do a grand tour of mainland Europe. I really want to do a tour of the Alps one day. I'm also hoping that eventually I'll be able to see Japan. And... well... for reasons that are probably obvious, the next big international trip that I'm looking into very well might be Thailand. ;) In the last 3 months, I've saved up $2000 out of the $16,000 that I'll need for that.

I spent Christmas vacation in Germany, a few years ago which was fun. I want to go there in the spring now. But the christmas markets are fun. the Hofbrauhaus in Munich is excellent. Berlin was interesting especially seeing Brandenburg Tor and seeing the section of the Berlin wall. the Cathedral in Coln is a magnificent sight to behold as well :)

I also visited Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. I also had some fun here.

My next trip one day, who knows when that will be, is England. Just so I can watch a Manchester United match in person.

I haven't really traveled a lot but I'd like to do it more. It's just damn expensive.

But I've been to Playa de las Americas, Teneriffe in 2003. Wasn't really that amazing trip, it was just my first time to be out of Finland so that gave most buzz about it.
But we did visit Loro Parque zoo while we were there! That was an awesome place. So many parrots... AND THE PENGUINS.

In 2007, Mom, aunt and her husband and I went to Santorini, Greece for a week.
It was just...
I had always wanted to visit Greece and I fell in love with that little island. It was easy to understand why Greece's flag is blue and white.
One day, I want to go back there. Preferably to the same village (Kamari). And I want to see the sunset from Oia again. It's said to be one of the most beautiful sunset sights in the world. I can undestand why.

One place I have wanted to visit for a long time is Japan.
My dream is to stay at a traditional Japanese inn or ryokan and also one of those futuristic capsule hotels! :D My fiancé doesn't like the latter one, though...
Would be amazing to get there when the cherry blossoms bloom.
I wouldn't mind seeing the penis festival either...

I haven't been anywhere. I've visited four different states (California, Arizona, Nevada, and Wyoming), lived in two (Wyoming and Nevada), and passed through Utah and New Mexico briefly. I really want to visit China and Japan and do an extended tour of Ireland. I guess Colorado's going to have to be my mini-Ireland.

Outside of the United States I've been to:

In the states I've been to:

- The majority of the states except for many northeastern states.

I have lived in:

I grew up in the military so my dad was stationed in several different places.  My recent trip outside of the United States was just over a year ago and that was to England [it was my third time going].   If I could go anyplace in the world, I would go there again.  I felt at home in England and I felt like I was truly enjoying myself for the first time in the world.  It is the most beautiful place as far as I'm concerned and the history is wonderful.

I always want to be in Venice.

I like local tourism. Whatever city I happen to live in I look at whatever the cities and towns are on the edges of the transit system (or close greyhound stop if there's no public transit) and I find out what they're proud of and I go see that. I've had some beautiful adventures that way. If you're short on leads you can always ask the representative chamber of commerce and they'll likely talk your ear off about what's good.

I've been across the continental US, Canada and have been down into Mexico.  I've been to Europe and Asia several times for business, now I would like to go to Israel, Alaska and Hawaii for pleasure.

I've been to North Carolina, Maryland, TN, Georgia (U.S.), Florida, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

I want to go to California (L.A.) to go to Anime Expo.  I also want to go to Mardi Gras down in New Orleans as well as Carnival in Brazil.  I want to travel to Miami as well.

I actually got to go inside the Pyramids before they closed them off to the public. My grandfather worked for WHO and was stationed in Egypt for many, many years until he retired, and it was during one of the many trips we made out there that I got to visit them. Sure I was 6 at the time, but it's not something you ever forget.

I was fortunate enough to spend some time on Pangkor Island, Malacca, Malaysia, back in the early 1980s and witnessed the "Thaipusam Festival" -where to show their devotion to a Hindu Goddess, devotees of all ages pierce their skin with hooks, spikes and long metal rods, some pull carts along, which are attached to hooks in their back and their children sit on the carts...

The amazing thing was a few days after the festival I saw some participants and there was no traces of puncture marks on their skin, nor at the time when the hook and things were being put through the skin was there any blood...

They fast for a few days prior to the festival and on the morning of the event a holy man goes around blessing them...

I have to say it never occurred to me to wonder about the pyramids and whether one can visit them. Sounds neat. Underground stuff and old buildings are always amazing.

Never got as far as Australia or New Zealand and wonder why anyone would want to go so far from everywhere else unless they really were trying to flee from something very, very bad...I l know I may be setting myself up for some trouble here  :)

Asia is probably the region I would like to see more of. I loved all the places I have been and have heard very positive things about Burma, Laos and a few other destinations like that.  That being said, I have enjoyed pretty well everywhere I've been  in some way or another but might just pass on a second trip to Yemen. A great place to lose weight though as the food was probably the worst I have ever experienced and I have had some bad experiences,  like a regime of nothing  but dry biscuits and canned Brussels sprouts for  3 days... :)

Ah  the pleasures of travel....

I'm lucky enough to have been born traveling.... I was born in northern africa by european parents, and by my 35th birthday, I had lived on 4 continents, and have visited around 65 countries. About 45 US states, Canada, most of Europe, most of Asia, lesser south america, australia/NZ, only saharan africa, no latin america at all for some reason.... Lots of motorbiking around Asia back in the day, europe these days, backpacking, beach bum sorta stuff. :) Since SRS last august, I've been pretty stationary, but the plans they are a'brewing...

Randomly and off the top of my head, my all time favorite countries / places / the places I go back to often or spend a lot of time in: Florence, Italy; New Orleans; Cambodia, esp Phnom Penh; Myanmar; Bosnia; Montenegro; Indonesia (especially Java). Least fav countries would have to be Russia, Serbia, and Laos.... all time Fave (if I could never leave, where would i live): Florence. Cliched but there's a reason for that. :)

Unfortunately I missed it, I was elsewhere probably swimming or shopping...

It turns out they have been fund raising and are off to the US to compete in a Hip Hop competition...

BTW I should add, they are the world's oldest flash dance mob and all live on Waiheke island...However I'm yet to see them live in action...

To Florida once (you can keep it, didn't care for it).

To Syracuse NY, too young to recall the experience.

Once was just across the border from Southern Ontario with buddies on Black Thursday (or whatever it's called). It was cold miserable and everyone seemed nice.

To Nova Scotia (thanks to the Canadian Armed Forces).

3 times by train from Oshawa to Vancouver. Best described as lots of tree, lots of trees, more trees endless trees, then you reach Saskatchewan and they nicely time that for night time, nothing at all to see. Then Alberta is gorgeous, and BC even more so.

Been as far north as Timmins by car, would like to do Manitoulin Island some how.

If it was just me, and I had no ties to anywhere, I'd be headed likely for BC and or Yukon, some where there's about.

I have no desire to see anywhere that has no mountains and the more empty of people the better.
So that makes NZ ideal Norway maybe, but the language might be a problem there for me. Maybe Patagonia if I had the right channels.

I'd also like to experience Antarctica. If I were to win several hundred million, I'd likely be some scientist's, best buddy real quick :)

I suppose I should mention I've been to Quebec as I was born there :) Mostly Morin Heights and lived just down the way from Oka.

If you do come to Canada, pleeeeeeeease don't visit any of the cities. Not worth the effort.

My suggestion, Banff or Manitoulin Island.

I have been to Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany, France, Greece, Turkey, Spain, US (Minneapolis) Iceland.


Would like to go to Brazil and most of South America, Caribbean, Asia and thats about it. Maybe some Arctic destinations too :)
