Bridal shop refuses to let transgender shopper try on gowns

A Saskatoon woman who identifies herself as transgender says a bridal shop in the city refused to let her try on dresses as she planned her wedding.

Rohit Singh says she was looking at outfits in Jenny's Bridal Boutique but when she asked to try one on, she was refused.

Singh said she plans to file a formal complaint about her treatment with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission.

"It might happen to some other transgender that might come to the store and she will hurt the same," Singh said. "It so embarrassed me and my husband."

Wow, what a store owner. ::) She lost a sale and I hope many more. What's the big deal? The other brides feeling uncomfortable? That's no excuse. Does the store not have private fitting rooms or is it a group deal? People and their prejudices and ignorance.

I am surprised there wasn't a big sign that said "Cisgender Women only".  Seriously, what the hell?  Next time I go out, I will make sure to drink at the trans fountains and shop at the trans stores.  Separate but equal right?

I think the article gives a delicious little cut down on the shop that refused the try on, 1) it gives the name of the accepting competitor, and 2) shows her modeling the competitors product.  She look great in the dress.

I was thinking the same thing natastic. Maybe the store owner and or the other brides wre jealous because she was prettier than they were.

One line troubled me about this article:

How is that relevant? It bothers me when I see stuff like this in the press. It's as if we actually need to start doing stuff to our bodies in order to legitimize our gender identity.

A transwoman who has not yet started the process for a sex change is just as much a woman.

Did that line bother anyone else?

Now that you mentioned it, a little. Really who cares? If a 7'3" 490 pound with a full beard trans woman comes in, is it really anyone's concern as to who she feels she is on the inside? Is society as a whole so confused about who they are that they have to belittle, mock and make fun of those of us that know who we are?

Way to represent Saskatoon, wouldn't expect less.   ::)
