My name's Lark. I'm 19 and an artist, gamer, and way too into capoeira and parkour for my own good. : P I'm working on a portfolio in hopes of getting into my college of choice and trying to find a new job after losing my old one, as well as looking into saving for my car of choice, heh.


I've been on T for a little over ten months now, and had top surgery back in October of '12. I'm at this point in my transition where I'm passing consistently and am working on getting all my documents changed(license is done, just need my social and birth certificate amended) while pursuing the other parts of medical transition I need. I've also been having some issues with my doctors and navigating the medical world for unrelated issues while being trans, and would love to talk to others about their experiences, heh. It gets to a point where help would be pretty nice, you know?

What genre of art do you like?

I'm into photography and a bit into photo manipulation

I've always wanted to do parkour but knowing how much of a klutz I am and how short I am I would not clear something and break a leg.  What's capoeira though?  And welcome!

Btw, I really like the name Lark.  It's uncommon and a really strong sounding name. :)

Hello, there, Lark! Welcome to Susan's; it's very nice to meet you! I also enjoy art and video games, although I'm not experienced enough with them to call myself an artist or a gamer, I don't think, haha. What kind of art do you do and what kind of video games are you into?

Also, that's incredible that you can do stuff like parkour and capoeira!! I'm definitely not the athletic kind in any way with my clumsiness, aside from some fencing in the past.

That's great that you're at the point where you're passing consistently! I imagine that must be a very satisfying experience. I'm sorry you've still been having issues, although you're definitely in the right place if you're looking for help, support, and camaraderie!

Darkie - Thank you! It took a long time for me to find a name I liked, and I'm happy others enjoy it, too. Capoeira is a martial art(but also a game depending on where you are) that involves music and movements comparable to dancing. It's great if you want to build upper body strength and flexibility, and I find it to be a great outlet whenever I'm frustrated. It can be rough, but it's a lot of fun.

Tiffanie - I'm very fond of animation in particular, but I'm also huge on sculpture. I've been creating some Alebrijes(colorful wooden or paper mache figures like these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alebrije (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alebrije)). I made some in high school and I find the process of the build particularly satisfying. I currently have a coyote and a lion that I'm working on, heh. What type of photography are you into? Do you like nature or modern? Or something else entirely?

gennee - I'm not too sure what I'd like to study in college just yet, but I'm thinking of animation or illustration. I have a lot of time to try things out and do my research, just in case something I feel more passionate about comes along.

Devlyn - You work with stone? That's awesome, and I'm a bit envious, haha. I've always wanted to work with stone and metal, but the tools are something I lack.

Rinzler(is that a TRON reference I see?) - I'm mostly into games like the Bioshock and Assassin's Creed series, but I also love Pokemon and horror games along the lines of Amnesia. Point and click adventure games are a classic, too. I'm not too picky when it comes to my games, and love suggestions!

Even with my passing and progress in transition, I still suffer from anxiety and depression. Having something that takes the focus away from those feelings helps me deal, if that makes sense, haha.

Haha, yes, it sure is a TRON reference! I'm glad whenever someone picks up on that! Oh, awesome! I've heard Bioshock and Assassin's Creed and Amnesia are amazing, I've always wanted to play them! I definitely love Pokemon, too, that will always be one of my favorites. Also, if you're looking for suggestions, there's a new horror game coming out called Among the Sleep that I played a demo of that was offered for free on their kickstarter page!

Ahh, yeah, I can imagine parkour and capoeira are wonderful physical outlets! Also, I can definitely sympathize with suffering from anxiety and depression since I suffer from them, as well. And yes, that makes perfect sense! It always help me when I have something to focus on so I'm not just caught in a constant train of negative thought, haha.

When I read Amnesia and then Pokemon in that post, all of a sudden I had an invisionment of a crossover of those two. DX

I carve soapstone, it's fairly soft, and can be worked with standard woodworking tools. I use:

Cordless drill  $30
Drill bits & burrs $20
Hacksaw $20
Wood rasp $10
Sandpaper $10

Not a major outlay on tools, stone costs me $15 for a 3"x3"x5" block. I've made around $500 selling carvings so far.
