Before tanning, go back over your meds and see if any say limit exposure to sunlight. Two of mine do. Then check with your doctor's office and see what they want out of direct sunlight.
I am a California girl, and get enough sunlight for most of me to get well barbecued if I simply forget to put on enough.
That said, using a tanning bed, cook your back ala nude, then the wash cloth "g-string over the surgical wound area for doing the front, and enjoy.

I wear a bikini... same as I did when I was preop. I'll take my top off when lying face down... but that's it... nothing special. If you're tanning in a private tanning booth... you can just take everything off if you wish. The lights aren't going to hurt anything... else you're on special meds or have some sort of light sensitive condition.

Hmm I'm not so sure about taking everything off. I mean how about the two long scars on labia majora? Don't want them to turn red. I don't see them at all anymore after three months, but if they turn red from the sun they may become more visible?
They won't turn red... at least mine didn't. ;) The sunlight can actually help fade them and made them blend in more.
I live in Miami, FL and have tested it. Having a private walled-off pool area has it's benefits. :o

Cherrie--
Come on out here to sunny So California, we have a group of private camping grounds not far from me, where even if someone sees your scars, they will pay no attention. Yes, they are camps for naturists, and yes, naturists do love the sun and their all over tans, but absent a place like that I am pretty sure no one will see the red scars. :embarrassed:
Jenn is right though, the tan if it is a gentle one will help them.

They're so dangerous.
Go and get a spray tan.
