Title: Hair Shedding
Post by: The Wagoneer on June 08, 2013, 05:03:22 AM
So When I started hrt I finnaly started to let my hair grow out for the first time in 8+ years. I know i have MPB but it doesnt seem to have advanced much in the last few years however I shed like crazy. I always have shed even before MPB set in but I don't know about the last 8 years because I kept my head buzzed short. However i get alot of smaller finer hairs falling out daily yet my hair doesnt seem to be thinning really? Which confuses me and has me wondering am i shedding the smaller weaker hairs from MPB and getting new healthier hair? Similar to what Fin does?

Yep. Shed happens. ^_^

It's not helped by the fact that longer hairs simply look bigger, increasing the volume of the daily shed as time goes on even without other factors. In practical terms, all you can really do is look for bald spots, watch the edges, and monitor the thickness of your hair over time.

I can't guarantee it, but it's probably normal and harmless. If you saw my hairbrush, you'd probably think you're not losing much. Yet my hair is still pretty thick.

I had the very same thing happen to me. For about the first 4-5 months my hair was shedding big time. To the point I could not run my fingers through my hair without several hairs being on my hand. For me it was very very very unnerving. But at about 5 months or so it calmed down. Now I think my hair sheds less then it used to pre-hormones. Its also alot thicker as well. The beginning is tough I think, but it calms down in  a couple months. At least for me it did.

People on MPB  forums talk about the initial shed when starting finasteride all the time. I had an initial shed phase too. Being neurotic me, every time shampoo my hair I count my lost strands and its usually between 30 and 40, but sometimes ive counted up to 70. I have a whole lot of hair, too.

If it's BEGUN to shed more, then there's absolutely nothing to worry about, is there? There's no way a DHT blocker would actually accelerate male pattern baldness, don't you think?

For me, MPB was a major issue pre-HRT. It first started when I was 13/15 and had to shave my head completely.

It's reversed almost completely though. Finasteride really helps.

Still makes me very paranoid when I see my hair falling out. And I usually have a lot of hair falling out even after a 1+ year on HRT.

My hair "shedding" problem is different, curious if anyone else has experienced this too.

I've been using a non-standard anti-antigen blocker for years and all body hair growth has effectively STOPPED, with no shaving needed at all?  Chest, underarms, legs have retained that clean shaven look without me doing anything; very fine, barely noticable filo threads yes but that's about it?

I mean cis women shave under-arms but I don't have to, how can THAT be?

Anyone else experience this? Have had some thinning via electro but still need to shave face and head hair has been same, ok as always. I've never had "T" levels tested but am thinking maybe I should?? Have been OFF everything for over a year . . .

"de-transition" back to "full male" option NOT??

I'm curious, what is that non-standard thing?

If I'm not mistaken, the excess shedding is the strands of hair that need to be pushed out to make way for the thickening follicles. Hair strands cannot become thicker as they grow.
