Title: The gatekeeper he say yes
Post by: Mollie on June 12, 2013, 04:41:01 PM
Hi strangers throughout the world. I'll ditch the life story (Knew when I was 3: acted upon it late 50's). Anyway, after 3 years of delays, "OK make another appointment for 4 months", you know the stuff, I turned up yesterday and got told, "You're good to go. Let me take some blood. The letter's in the post." All so sudden it became so so real. In a few weeks time I no longer need to ask what happens; it will be happening. So I have 14 days to ask, "What happens?" So what happens? I slap the patch on my "Hin" end" (Scottish)....then what? Does my hair stand on end? Do I suddenly think, "Those drapes with that wallpaper? I don't think so!"
I wanted to ask about dose....but I read the rules. Is it OK to ask though if it's not unusual to prescribed only intro' levels oestrogen alone? (Finasteride doesn't count). I'm actually OK without anti androgens; they seem to carry so much baggage! But on this low intro' dose what may probably happen? I am aware of the mileage thing but even quantum physics has maybes and probablys. So if you're willing to share, please do. By the way, the flippancy hides fear: you probably figured that  out for yourself.

Molly xx

Congratulations, Molly.  Gatekeepers can be aggravating.

Glad you found your way back.

Since you brought up a "frequently asked question" I'll give you the frequently offered answer.  Some doctors start their transitioning patients on estrogen only.  Some on AA's only.  Some on both.

One more thing Molly - we all have fears, reservations, and concerns at times.  It is nothing to be ashamed of.  I have "WTF" moments every now and again.  Go ahead and ask questions.  Share experiences.  We are a community, and we benefit from one another.

Also, many doctors will start with a low dosage, and then increase the dose with time, until your blood-work shows you are at optimal levels.
