Title: How do you wear your pants?
Post by: dreaming.forever on June 27, 2013, 11:17:16 PM

I'm not the only guy who has this problem, right? If I get pants that are the right length, the waist is too small for my hips. If I get jeans that are the right fit in the waist, the pant legs are way too long.
I'm curious to see what you guys do about getting your jeans to fit. Vote, then say more about it with a comment if you like. :)

I'm not "hippy" or anything. I'm just built oddly. I have a longer torso but short legs so pants are never quite right. I wear a 30 in length so I just wear boots or sneakers that are high enough to keep that extra inch or two from dragging.

It's difficult to find jeans that fit, but the boys husky section has 'em with a 28 inch inseam that is large enough in the waist for me. Usually if the inseam is a little too long I'll wear them. I don't like the way it looks but meh. Not the end of the world. If the trousers or whatever are too long and are more formal, I'll get them hemmed properly.

Even with a big butt and thick thighs, I find a men's 34 jean/pant fits me just fine. I'm only 5'5" though so I must hem. Good thing I was taught this early on!

I'm the weirdo. I have long legs so I tend to need around 33 length, though some 32 can work. So I guess I'm lucky; I've never had to hem anything...PHEW!

Depending on the store, I don't have this problem. That's if there's enough selection for the waist/length ratio. I'm quite lanky guy so I can wear pretty small waist sizes, like 30 (might've changed because of T) but I have slightly longer legs than average proportionally so I need more length, usually 32 is pretty good.
But I also put the 'other' because I don't always buy pants that fit me just right. Close enough is usually good for me because I like to wear pants that are more or less baggy. :D

Yes, indeed it does...and one should never have to worry about the length of those pants! Jeez! :P

My thoughts exactly! I used to wear pants back when I was presenting as female, but now I wear boxers. And no, I don't think I've ever owned a pair of boots that go that far up the leg. ;D
As for my trousers, I'm lucky that there are a couple of shops in the UK that sell shorter lengths so I'm able to find ones that fit. Otherwise, I use the handy sewing skills I was forced to learn at school so that I can hem them myself (an old saying about lemons and lemonade comes to mind there). ;)

I'm usually lucky with finding pants but I buy in the boy's section, not the men's. I had some longer pants the other day which I needed to shorten. My mum hasnt been here and I have no idea how to sew, so I used a stapler and stapled them up. It actually works and it's really quick haha :)

Harlee, a stapler? Seriously? Won't it rust after a wash?? :o
I usually either buy unisex or tough/masculine looking female pants, and NEVER tight ones (I HATE tight pants anyway), or I just keep searching until I've found something. I have a too big waist for my taste (duh of course) but for a genetic female it's pretty small (yay!), so MOST men's trousers actually fit. Boy's mostly don't, 'cause I'm too tall. (I especially have really long legs. My legs are longer than my torso. Lol!)

I've never really had this problem. Or, at least, never a problem with the pant legs. If I roll them up a bit, then I don't end up ripping up the ends and tripping over them at a later date ;P
My main problem is my hips. But, I have some masculine "women" pants that fit fine. If I ever have pants that don't fit my hips well, I just man up and deal with 'em until I can't wear 'em anymore.

Since I need a 28 inch inseam but a 32 waist, I get Levi's husky jeans- they're really the only thing that fits and I actually get them a little too short because their 32 has a 27 inch inseam but 34 is just too big for me. They're also really hard to find in-store in my size, I may just get the 34s and either wear a belt or get them altered.
If I do get jeans at a normal store, depending on the cut, the extra two inches will just bunch up at my shoes because of their shape so I can be okay with those too. If not, my sister can sew, so she can hem them.
Once I go on T and with more exercising, I'm hoping that enough of my butt/thigh fat will move and I'll be able to fit a 28 inch waist, because I can think of several stores that sell a 28x28.

I chose "other" because the majority of the time I just leave them as too long. If they're way too long then they probably don't fit in other areas, like the crotch will be down by my knees and my backside will look like a clowns. For smarter things I would hem them, or get my grandmother to, depending on how important it was for them to be really neat.

My pants are too long but i just roll with it. my pants just bunch a little near my shoes. An inch or two isnt worth getting hemmed for me. It's only an issue when im not wearing shoes and the bottom of my pantleg goes under my foot and it hurts.

I wore girl's jeans until I was 4 or 5 months on T. They were falling off of me so I had to do something. I fit in 30/30 "straight" jeans wonderfully in hips/ass/thighs/length. Guess I got lucky on that front.

It's been so long since I've worn men's jeans I can't remember how they fit. All I've been wearing lately are men's shorts, so length isn't an issue. I do want to shop around for at least one pair of pants for nights when it's rainy or I just wanna wear long pants, so I guess I'll find out what size I am then.
My problem always comes when I try to wear men's shirts rather than pants. My shoulders are so large I sometimes don't even fit large women's clothes, but my torso altogether is too thin and I don't quite fill out men's small shirts. :/ My coat right now is a small but everything on it is big on me except the sleeves are too short when I stretch my arms out.

With a lot of jeans here they'll all be one length regardless of the waist size, so it's either roll/stack/hem/some combination of those. Jeans I leave alone unless they're insanely long but for more formal trousers I obviously get them hemmed, everyone does with those. When they do offer length options I'm like a 28 waist/30 length so I don't really have a problem with relative hip size.

I tend to stick with brands that have "stout" sizes - same waist and rise as the regular sizes, but shorter legs and inseams. Stores don't tend to actually have them in stock all the time but once you find say, a pair of Levis that fit in the waist and rise most retailers can order you in the version with shorter legs.
Same goes for work pants, we have to wear Hard Yakka cargo pants, and they have stout sizes available too.

I live with a cisguy who's the same itty bitty size as me (I'm 5'1" and 120 pounds-- he's maybe an inch taller and a few pounds lighter), so we can share pretty much all our clothes... except gosh darn pants, because my hips are too wide! I usually end up just buying pants that are too big for me so I can fit them around my hips/waist, and then I end up with holes all over the bottom of my pants, because I'm too lazy/lack the sewing skills to hem them. Womp womp.

I have never had the problem. I'm not a tall guy by any means. 5'8.. but I have always been able to find pants that fit me at about any store. I'm usually a 30-32 length.. and even when I was at my biggest (40 I believe), I could always find a 32 length. Now I'm around 34x32 which is easily found.
Try and get them tailored when you can afford them, or find out how to do them properly yourself.. youtube has a lot of good videos showing easy ways to do it so it doesn't look like they have been modified at all (ie, doesn't make you look boxy and gives shape to the pants). Nothing looks worse than improperly fitting pants. They can make or break your entire look.

I feel like I just got really lucky. I've never really had a problem with pants. Well, once I grew a little (around 14). I'm usually a 31x30 and its perfect. Sometimes they're a little long when I'm barefoot but with shoes on I've never had a problem...

I don't have a length problem, but even 30" waist pants and shorts are huge on me sometimes, depending on the brand. I try to avoid wearing boys' clothes but they fit me the best. :(

Tried some pants on the other night. Turns out 32x30 fits just fine and is a pretty common size. :) Although truthfully 31x30 would probably be the best fit, but I've never seen that size around, so I just wears 32's.

If you're in the US (or if they have them around the world) have you tried JC Penny's? I wear 31x30s all the time and that's generally where I get all of my clothes

Old Navy do all those in-between sizes like 29, 31, etc. Dunno what it is about Old Navy clothes but they work wonders on me. I have shorts, cargo pants and chinos from there and they just fit fantastic somehow. Shirts, not so much but pants, that's my place it seems!
Anyone else found that? Like there's one store that just seems to have clothes that work on you best. For me that's the store that let's me wear pants that aren't baggy as hell in the waist to fit the hips, yet still helping with a straighter shape.
Anyone having issues with finding pants, as much as this suggestion sickens me as a typical shop hating lad, shop around for pants and see if you can find your store.

The closest JCPenny to me is in the further away mall, so I haven't gotten to check them out yet, but they are definitely one of the places that I wanted to look into. Guess that's just another reason to make a trip to the good mall. ;) (Not to sound girly about shopping, but c'mon, our mall doesn't even have a food court anymore!)
I've always hated Old Navy, and they just took down the one by me anyway.
I want a pair of plain black punk-style shorts, but I have the hardest time finding anything even close to my size at my Hot Topic. :/ They carry 28's, and then rarely anything under a 34. =_= I swear it's just to spite me.
I do need to find a good store to do all my pant shopping. Right now I usually just go to Ross' and see what they have. Of course, then you also end up buying cheaply made clothes for slightly cheaper than decent clothes. I bought two pairs of shorts there a month or so ago and I already tore an unfixable hole in the one pair. I went shirt shopping at Kohl's the other week, but didn't even try on their pants (all their shirts were disappointing, so I got discouraged and stopped trying stuff on), but they seem like they might have some good stuff. I guess I'll have to go back and see.

So long as they are not too short or too tight, I don't really care. My main requirement be that the waist sit at my belly button. I'm currently a big guy & don't care for my gut hanging out. (Which is funny to *me*, because all of my sisters have a similar gut and they prefer it hang over their waist bands!)
