Title: Work place discrimination
Post by: Olivia-Anne on June 30, 2013, 08:41:49 PM
So, in some states, transgender people are protected by state law. However, all states do not have the same protection. According to this article, even employers in the states without laws to protect transgender people, would be in violation with the EEOC. So, people that have been discriminated against have grounds for a TitleVII lawsuit. I dont know how factual that link is. But something to think about for people in unprotected states.

My understanding was that it does not apply to businesses with less then 15 employees or to independent contractors(irrespective of number employed)..   It is good though that now Transgender/gender identity is recognized as Title Vll.   Title Vll is applicable in all states and the EEOC has offices nation wide.  ...last I knew.

Ah, I had a feeling there had to be some sort of loophole to it. Thank you for letting me know about that. Even though I live in a protected state, If discrimination does happen, its nice to know all of the ways in which we are supposed to be protected.
