Title: T Levels
Post by: Aido on July 07, 2013, 06:47:16 AM
Hi all, new here and first post so be gentle please :3

I'm trying to find out what the normal range of testosterone should be? I've gotten different results from searching online, some sites have it around 300-1000, then there's others that are 35-89. I figure it's a different way of measuring it depending on the country (I'm in Ireland) so I'm just wondering if anyone knows what it is?

Depends, total testosterone or free testosterone?

That 300-1000 range is total testosterone, which is what most doctors look at.

You can find a break down here. (http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and+Interpretive/83686)

There are 2 ways to measure T levels: nmol/l which I think is the higher number and ng/ml which is the lower. I found the normal levels both way but I don't think I can help you cause I'm in Hungary and the numbers are different here what you wrote.

Thanks, but gonna have to ask my doc methinks. I'm on T two months now. Pre T my results were 1.6,I  rang my doctor about my results from a few days ago and all she told me was that they are 52. Not sure if it's total or free she meant. Seems very low to me, but I don't know how we measure it here

Hi ado, :) cut and paste right off my blood screens, done last week:

As nanomoles per litre (nmol/L) the normal range is (9.9-27.8 ) nmoles/litre....

A nanomole is 1X10-9 moles per litre.

A mole of testosterone weighs 288.4244 g/mol.  So, 9.9 to 27.8 nmoles/litre corresponds to:

(9.9 X 288.4244)/1,000,000,000 grams/litre to (27.8 X 288.4244)/1,000,000,000 grams/litre or

0.002855 miligrams/litre to 0.008018 milligrams/litre.

How much do you weigh in Kilograms?  Multiply each number to get range in the total weight of testosterone in your body....(because the density of our bodies is roughly 1 kilogram/litre - that's why you float when you hold your breath and sink when you exhale, in the water)...

Now I'm even more confused  :D Best to just go through it with the doc, the only results I've seen (the first ones) just had tesosterone - 1.6 written on it so no idea about the rest of it.
