Title: Little kiddies
Post by: justchillin on July 13, 2013, 08:38:46 PM
I really feel like the last thing keeping me pre..... everything (besides a dry wallet) is the idea of no children. I no longer give much attention to the "down sides" of transition because I can honestly say I want and need this.

But lets get to the body of what I'm posting this for. I just wanted to see what you all know about sperm banking or any other method to have biological children. I'am not against adoption and actually plan on it. I just wish to have my "own" children as well.

A little background info I'm only 20 so the I'm still pretty far away from actually starting a family and I am not in a relationship.

If you can you might want to watch the movie "Trans the movie". It just tells the story of 5 (I think) trans people. There is an extra long segment re: Dr. Christine McGinn (yeah the same one who does SRS). She actually did bank sperm and also ends up breast feeding the babies.

I could give you a link to an online sperm bank website if you'd like, (you mail the sperm) an SO of an mtf from Susan's gave me the link, and they were happy with the service, but I haven't used it personally since I'm still dealing with my own coming out issues a year later. =/

It's funny you should ask this. You can still have your own kids. If you bank sperm or get eggs from a relative you can use a surrogate to carry your baby. This is what I plan on doing. I'm setting up the process now so that I can still be a mommy. It cost a little money but its so worth it if that's what you want all you need is sperm, egg and a surrogate. And wa la. You get the babies :)

Did you bank sperm before HRT Tristan or do you mean your putting HRT on hold in order to sperm bank?

When i first started HRT, having biological kids of my own was on my mind a lot. It got me thinking about sexual/life partners and who i would be raising my child with, i realised that i don't actually want to be in a sexual relationship with women, and probably explains why i never really gave relationships with my ex's any real chance. Being with a man, we wouldn't be able to have a child that had both of our biological material (hmm that sounds so clinical :S). I suppose we could have children that were half siblings to each other, but i am concerned about issues of favouritism or other obstacles coming in to play.
Recently i met a Transman who is also thinking a great deal about children. The idea did pop into my mind that we could technically have children together.

edit: which country are you from justchillin?

Hey. There's tons if places to Sperm bank in each major town close to you. That's what they had me do forever ago. They paid a little extra so I could store them better for long term use. It was in the earlier days of HRT I think in freshman year of high school while I was still on Lowe dosages on estrogen. It seemed to work out pretty well and everything is still on track. Cancer kinda runs in my family though so I have that to consider when using them soon but either way I get my kids from day one, biological or not I would love them all just the same:)
It's a good thing to do if your stick on the biological kid track, I know I did mine kinda young but in 20-30s and so on I would still think it's going to work for you.if your HRT levels aren't all crazy high yet you don't have to stop while banking and having your sperm tested

Being a parent was perhaps the hardest and best thing I have ever done.

It means though, that you have to be responsible for a life other than your own.
