Title: So you think you're too tall?
Post by: Jenny07 on July 15, 2013, 07:04:44 AM
For all those girls who think they are too tall take heart from today.

Today at lunch I saw at least 3 girls of my height or over.
I'm 6'2" so that's tall.
One beautiful girl was taller than me by a fair bit.
She was at least 6'4" in flats and no I was not at a basket ball convention.

So don't loose hope if you think you're too tall.

Being tall actually is great in my opinion. This way i can reach for things other people can't.

I get all giddy when i see beautiful cis-women as tall or taller than me or with the same size feet.  seriously makes my day.   or when my hair removal place tells me story's of cis-women with far more facial and body hair than i have.   i sort of find a lot of comfort in this knowledge.  one of the most gorgeous girls  in my town is like 6'4" with size 12-13 feet and i like short women but she trumps virtually every girl here.

5'9" is pretty much the average height for a male so I would say your an average dude. :)

As for tall women, I met one tending bar and thought the floor behind the bar was elevated. First date we went on I realized the bar wasn't elevated and she towered over me. Don't really know how tall but I am 5'9" and she was at least 8 inches taller than me. So you can be tall and beautiful because beauty knows no bounds.

The girl who waited our table yesterday evening was around 2m tall...=6.5 with a narrow frame.

There's a  lot of (very) tall girls and women in Holland...but they are ciswomen, with a (much) smaller head, narrow shoulders, a narrow trunk, a thin frame.

As an example, I'm 5'9" (not the tallest ever), but my proportions are easily within female range.  I work at a very popular drugstore with a high customer volume. Whenever a girl/woman who is taller than me comes in (usually several times a day), I can't help but feel compelled to take note on their frames. A small amount are very thin and small-boned, most are about the same frame as me or slightly larger, and a few of them have had incredibly broad shoulders/narrow hips/etc. I've received the impression that taller women in general tend to grow into larger upper-body frames, so for many taller trans-women it would not really be as unnatural a look as stigma or self-doubt would have them believe -- this isn't to say that shorter women don't also some times have larger upper body frames, as I've seen plenty of those as well.

There have been a few women whose proportions were so masculine to me that I got somewhat excited and thought they might be trans -- but when they come to ring out (I'm the front end person, so I interact with nearly everyone who comes through the store), there's just really nothing confirming that for me. The only woman who comes to my store who I think may be trans is around 5'5" and completely normal-bodied. It's her very strong face and slightly deeper voice that make me question it.

The ones I wrote about above are also in their 20s by majority.

And I have to agree with Sophie, I have plenty of cis friends and I see them blatantly, candidly and openly compliment each other and strangers all of the time. I also don't think Sophie was being narcissistic or self-indulgent -- after such a long period of struggle, it's exhilarating and relieving to be told those things. Of course they would make her happy and give her confidence.

I like how this started out being an uplifting thread for tall girls, who btw have to deal with serious body issues all the time, and quickly became all about self hate and projection and very discouraging.   Kind of typical when it comes to this subject.  I remember somebody starting a #tallgirlsarebeautiful hashtag on twitter (or something like that) which immediately became a long list of "short girls are way cuter" posts.

Guess what?  Tall girls do not need to be reminded of how we are different.  We already know.  Trust me.

I have posted before, that my youngest daughter is 6-feet tall, age 19, and still growing.  (Her older brother is 6' 6").  No one mistakes her for a man because of her height.  Height is a non-issue.

Being tall put me off transition at 21,I wish I had gone ahead and not wasted 12 years before I lived full time.I'm 6'1 and a half and often asked if I'm Dutch or Scandinavian as I'm blonde

With the kind of feedback that I've been getting lately, I now wish that I were at least an inch taller (I'm 5'7"). Enjoy your height, girls!

I agree that being tall isn't problematic.  Yet, it makes sense for people to feel self conscience about it.  As a taller women (5'11), I always fear that this will be a difficult aspect for me to deal with while attempting to pass.  It's not that being tall makes you stand out, but it is one of the many features you feel could be detected.  However, that fear is often all in our head and not even on anyone's radar.  Most people don't see it as a problem nor do they start to think you are a male because of it.  If you fear this, as I do, you need to learn how to conquer your internal irrational fears (which I am working on).

@L2L, yeah it's toatally irrational.  At my height though it does make me stand out and brings a lot of extra attention my way.  It's less the height that is a problem and more the extra scrutiny.   But it's mostly an in your head thing.  I come from a very tall family (obvs) and I'm used to being around women 6' and under, so my perspective makes me want to scoff and say you have nothing to worry about at 5'11".  People from other circles prob will be like omg, so tall!   It's all relative.  Was I making a point?   I don't remember lol.

@Jamie, thank you.  You are wonderful. :)

Join the club VM, 6'2" as well.
Or 5'14". That sounds better. ;D

This does kinda make me feel better. I'm always told I'm tall and that I'm getting taller (I don't know my exact height, I think it's around 6'), and it's meant to be a compliment, but it makes me worry that as a female I'll stand out and that I won't be able to wear heels. Which I LOVE lol. Though, I've felt better about my height when I learned that runway models have to be at least 5'9 if I remember right. So even though I'd stand out from other girls, I know I'd be model material! lol  :D

I'm 5'7 so I'm not that tall among Caucasian ladies because their body sizes varies so much but if I'm among Asian women I'm kinda big.

Several of the top runway models are persons with CAIS, who are typically tall and slender.

I don't know what the hell they put in the water in Ohio....and with it being Ohio i really don't wanna know....but i noticed i seem to be the same height as almost every woman in town. Yes there are still.some under 5'8" but most seem to be around the 5'9" i stand, or taller even. But when it comes to build i seem to luck out and not have to worry about how broad my shoulders are, but really have to worry about my hips. That i have noticed more and more cis women my age in Ohio seem to have a hips equal to the width of there shoulders...hip implants here i come lol

I dated a girl who was 6' years ago. I'm 6' 2" and can't imagine being
any different.

I'm just glad my feet aren't any bigger. Womens size 13 are hard enough
to find.

I am a bit over 6'1" , my lovely spouse is 6' , my oldest daughter is 5'11" and my sister is also 5'11"

Tall is quite normal for the girls in our family so I never really thought about it much, it does have its advantages such as being in a crowd and looking over the top of most folks, getting objects top shelves, etc.

I have noticed that tall females on the west coast are not unusual or thought of as "oddities" like I've experienced on the east coast when we've traveled back there.

That seems to be a pretty good height for a woman.

The issue being discussed is whether being "tall" is detrimental to "passing."  I suggest, unequivocally, it is not.

I agree, but it does attract attention/scrutiny.  The only way to go is to just own it though.
