Title: Trans music
Post by: Makalii on July 24, 2013, 08:58:02 PM
Hey guys  :D Maka here

I was just wondering if anyone knows any good songs that are about, or could be interpreted to relate to transgender stories, issues, the like!  :D You know what I mean. I love music that I can relate to and I know a few songs that I have personally been able to relate to my own struggles being a transexual, and I'm sure they weren't originally intended to be about that but they make sense if you think about it with that idea in mind. I don't really care what kind of music it is or if it's happy, sad, angry, etc. Music (to me at least) is all about bringing out emotion and interpreting it in different ways to make it your own. ^_^ So let's here it! What do you listen to when you need something to relate your emotions to? What songs spark an emotion in you?

I guess I'll start off.  :D

:P I realize some of these are kind of a stretch but that's okay.  Stretches are okay I want to hear whatever you listen to.

"If I were a boy" by Beyonce is kind of an obvious one. Back at the time I didn't really know what transsexualism was but that song always made me super sad thinking about how much I hated being male and how awful it was trying to figure out why I was having such a hard time with it. I'm sure some of my fellow sisters are familiar with the feeling.

"Better than me" by Hinder is one that is really hard for me to make it all the way through because it makes me think about coming out, and how many of the people I'm close to deserve someone who isn't so complicated.

"Roads untravelled" by Linkin Park is a big one that makes me worry I'll never get on HRT or never be able to fully transition like I want to. It makes me think about how I'm not allowed to wear a dress to prom or act the way I want to in certain situations because of outside pressure.

"The crow and the butterfly" by Shinedown. I feel like the crow who wants to be the butterfly sometimes...

"I hate everything about you" by Three Days Grace. When I'm really angry I'll listen to this song while I'm staring at myself in the mirror, like Im talking to myself. (I know it's sad I listen to music when I cry okay it just helps me. xD )

"Untouched" by The Veronicas
and "E.T. (Johnson Somerset & John Monkman Remix)" by Katy Perry. These two songs are what I listen to when I'm feeling a bit amorous  ;) and to me they describe the desire to feel like a girl sensually.

"People like us." by Kelly Clarkson. This is sort of my trans pride song and it makes me think of this website a lot honestly.  :D

All right, Your Turn!!!  :D :D :D

Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! came out last year and started transitioning shortly after. There's a lot of footage online of live performances of new songs, and their next album (which should be coming out by the end of this year) is a concept album entitled "Transgender Dysphoria Blues". They also just released an EP of acoustic performances of two new songs. It was available as a free download on their site, but I'm not sure if it's still available cause it was a limited time type of thing :/ but those songs are on youtube. As far as I know the songs you can find now relating to it are "Transgender Dysphoria Blues" "True Trans Soul Rebel" "F**kMyLife666" and  "Drinking with the Jocks". Here's a full concert with almost all of those songs. I've watched this so many times lol :P
