I have heard great thing about Brassard and plan to get my surgery with him next year.  I wonder if you had any genital electrolysis prior to your surgery?

Be ready for some great care. The doctors and staff are A+++++++++++.
Are you traveling alone or with someone?

My bff got her surgery done by him and she is a very happy camper! ;)  He is certainly on my short list for when the time comes.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll do fine!

Hey Jessica!
I went to Brassard. I am going on three months post op now. The results are amazing, the after care was spectacular, and the recovery was just what I expected. I was running on a treadmill at week 4. I didn't get genital electrolysis however and I am a little bit worried for the future of my vaginal canal remaining hairless, though I am told there are procedures to take care of this if god forbid something bad happens. All I can tell you is prepare for dilating. It will own your life lol!
Don't be shy to contact me with any questions which you may have

Congrats! I went to Brassard in the summer - I hope Canada is not too bad in winter. ;) As others have said, the aftercare was amazing, and the results (I'm a bit over a year post-op) are great. Fully sensate, nice depth, aesthetics that impressed my doctor, and even some self-lubrication. If you do go with Brassard, you won't regret it.

(I only know one woman who used him and who does have regrets, and she didn't want GRS in the first place so that's not surprising.)

Ouch... genital electrolysis done. It's not bad all short, but I just wanted to mention that Dr Brassard doesn't require it. It's the safest thing to do if you have the money because his eyes aren't god-perfect, but during the surgery, he manually removes hair follicles that would end up being in an unnatural place, and I haven't heard of someone having weird hair regrowth after the surgery, even though I'm sure it occasionally happens.

Anyway, now that you're doing it, crying about whatever you might have spent isn't very useful. Just keep in mind that no hair removal whatsoever must have been done in the area 6 months before the surgery. (I think it was 6 months, at least.) So if there is still something left down there by that six-month mark, you should call the clinic and ask if it's okay and if they'll still do the surgical hair removal. If the six-month mark is already behind you, eeeh... Call and ask. You may need to postpone.

Soo jealous! I hope that things go well. Montreal is a really good place, and I have heard highly about Dr. Brassard. Oh, and if you do choose to come to our lovely country, well, welcome to Canada! :)

And again, so jealous, girl! XD

Hi, I had SRS with Dr. Brassard in winter 2001. He did a wonderful job and has a soothing and reassuring manner. The residence is outstanding, and the hospital was very modern. I lost a day due to dilaudid or demerol (not sure which), but after that I was OK. I am very pleased with him and my results My GF went up with me and everyone was very gracious to her.

I  did not go to Brassard but he's considered  one of the best.  IMO if you go to Brassard perineum electrolysis should be done as he recommends for best results or as he says for a perfect V.  Laser may work but it is not considered permanent  . The hairs may grow back. don't let them tell you laser is OK.  you ask how do I know.

Kunaporn's depth leaves a lot to be desired. Thailand trip is nice pre op but the trip home is grueling unless you stay there  for3 months .

you get what you pay for. If your friend went to him you know about him.
and so you must also know about the post op adjustment period.
It's great you have someone close to you who has gone trough this.

By the way, you are fabulous looking

Jessica, you can check Meghan Andrews blog here as she went to Dr. Brassard a year ago. I have two friends in Montreal, one went to Brassard at the end of May. All is good. She said dilating has you on a schedule, she isn't crazy about that. Montreal in winter is probably no colder than NYC. They do get a lot of snow. I had relatives there & spent Christmases over many years.

Brassard now recommends AGAINST any electrolysis at all.

When is "now"? TessaM had her surgery this year and I believe he told her that electrolysis was a fine option. She wasn't really planning on it to begin with, but then she decided to have it done to be safe and avoid any risk of awkward hair, since she had the money.

Now is today, as in the welcome pack I received last month:

(PDF OCR scan)
"Hair removal on external genitals before male to female reassignment surgery is debatable.
Hair bearing skin on the penis shaft base with the one step technique stays outside the neo vagina. The
skin that will become the internal lining of the new female genital is the rest of the penis skin, scrotal
skin and a small < perineal flap , I a one square inch of skin that is located one side above the anal
margin on the midline ). If you want a perfect hair free vagina, you need to be sure that no regrowth of
hair has occurred on the area for at least one year after you have finished electrolysis with laser. Even
then, this does not guaranty that no hair will ev€r grow;
The hair roots are either killed or weakened by electrolysis or laser. Those only weakened will regrow.
During surgery hair roots are killed with the cautery on the scrotal skin that is used as a graft [ not on
the < perineal flap > ). During surgery- the hair roots that were weakened are less visible because they
are much smaller than those found untreated areas and could be missed by the surgeon and regrow
later. For this reason, in our experience, expeditive laser or electrolysis treatments are worse than not
having hair removal at all. In fact, We c.an get most hair roots during surgery if they were not
weakened. Regrowth after our surgery is possible but very sparse.
If you want no regrowth at all, you will have to face hours of pain having hair removed and a one year
none growth period.
At this time, we do not feel that hair removal is indicated."

I get so jealous when I read about SRS. Gawd I wish I lived in the UK or Canada or Europe, I would have transtioned at 18 and have been post op for like 10 years now. But I did get the money for SRS and then fell into a deep depression when my ex left me because of my trans-ness. She knew from the begininng and only went out with me because I was so feminine and wanted to date a woman. She literally told me this. then she changed and I blew all my SRS money. But I have a new plan: go to Penn for Grad school and they will pay for it.

Nicolette: Congrats on achieving your goal soon. I know I just said I am jealous but I really am so happy for you. You've always been so nice and encouraging to me. I hope it goes well!

 I should have done this 'final' step years ago, but sometimes life gets in the way. I'm still a few weeks away. Joanna, you will get ever more beautiful with time and your rapid progress simply indicates your body was destined for this. You'll get there, but don't wait as long as I did!

Thanks, Nicolette. I guess she was... a bit hasty, then.

I recall her saying she did one session before she had her surgery, but even then Brassard had advised that patients be clear 6 months - 1 year beforehand (though he recommended (and still does) against electrolysis).
