Title: Music with low female voices?

I'm a huge fan of Lorde's "Royals." And I noticed Janice Joplin has a low voice. Stevie Knicks is good too. What other artists or songs feature alto's and low female voices I can sing with?
(Funny story... was singing Royals loudly in the car and I think two girls in the crosswalk could hear it. They gave me a funny look...I just smiled - I currently present male).

You may know this one if you're a fan of BBC Sherlock. I was very dubious when my friend told me the singer was female. What an amazing voice.

Masha from Arkona has a pretty deep voice. It might not be your taste, but you should check it out. She's very cool. ;)

Wow! These women have deeper singing voices than I do :) (I'm a Tenor II - I should really work on my female speaking voice more... inflection is my problem)
I do like World music (I like almost all genres)... but I don't know Russian!
Here's Royals:

Tracy Chapman. Everyone I know who'd heard her thought she was a guy, but once you find out she's a woman, you can tell when listening to her music.

This girl has quite a pitch range. The low isn't REALLY low, but I did think it was a man until the higher pitch part came on.

Valerie June (http://www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2013/08/09/209857975/valerie-june-on-learning-to-love-perfectly-imperfect-voices)'s voice is on the low side.

There's also Annie Lennox, she usually sings lower.

Now she has a DARK voice! Her voice reminds me very much of my art teacher. I thought directly about this song during the first class with her.

Mai Yamane - lead singer of Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts
Linda Perry - more known with the 4 non blondes
Johnette Napolitano - of Concrete Blonde
Andrea Echeverri - of Aterciopelados
Miley Cyrus - ever chided for her whiskey voice
Mary Chapin Carpenter - She really has a more neutral singing voice to me, lower than many of her contemporaries.
Liz Phair -- similar to mcc
Amy Ray - of the Indigo Girls
k.d. lang
Gail Ann Dorsey
Sass Jordan -- noticeable on the Rats album particularly...
Lisa Gerrard -- most known through Dead Can Dance, but there's quite a bit of range there
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoXsxYf2UMA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoXsxYf2UMA)
an endless amount of blues, jazz, old country (early texmex had a disproportionate number too) performers ... a handful of musical/operatic singers that are more known for it plus for more specifically the celebration more than the novelty of crossing the gender barrier in other areas -- though some might look at metal (a few known figures, but there are those that sing at higher pitch but also vox, growl, showing off their metal bravado/authenticity) and punk as well.
