Just Went For It in an e-mail.
And I now have a number 1 supporter. ;D
Our parents are mmm, rather traditional and Dad's downright queerphobic. But what does little sis say? That she isn't all that surprised and seriously I need to visit some time soon.

Congrats!! Allies are the best :D
I think modern siblings tend to be better - not that all are, but I'm from a liberal family... my parents are very liberal and supportive of these movements yet just want me to be normal, fixed, hide it, save the family, etc.

NIMBY liberalism. That about sums up my parents' attitude. :-\

My sister is my number one supporter, too. And she's been invaluable. My sister's initial reaction was "I thought you had something shocking to tell me."

Congrats!
Queerphobic? I've never heard that phrase before, but it does makes sense.
As others have said, political or social beliefs don't always play a factor in how other's absorb your situation. Though, I do understand why you may feel cautious. Luckily, you have an awesome sister who will play a role in your support structure, so that's a huge plus.
