Title: Quick question on injections?
Post by: PrincessDayna on September 05, 2013, 04:15:17 PM
So I'm on estradiol valerate IM. For the first month, I had my girlfriend give me the Injections into my upper arm, but found out its not the best spot to Inject, so for the last two monthes, I've been injecting into my upper thigh, on my own.  My question is, is it normal sometimes to have some leak out? I know it's the medicine leaking, bcuz its oily and it leaks out, not in a whole lot, but not a tiny amount either. I use a 22 ga needle, it's 3ml syringe, but only 1 ml is my prescribed dose amount (i wont put my mg amount for obvious rules) and that's what I put in....

Also sometimes, a few days after it is sore, and for a few hours after it may sting if I move my leg wrong :/

Please tell me this is common/normal... I always worry if when it leaks I'm not doing this right, like I'm putting it in too slow, or not going deep enough.  Yesterday when I went to inject, I decided to go deeper, and I hit a nerve I think cuz it was like an electrical shock at the injection site, and really hurt/made me twitch.  So I switched to my other leg, and some leaked again.  It seems to happen every other shot, the leaking. And I have been making it a point to ask if it's normal for so,e time to have leakage.

Yes can leak, can bleed or just can not do anything. I did IM for little over 6 years (now on patch) and if you force it in to fast and remove the needle was when i had leaks. I switched off between upper thigh and butt. That gave me 4 places to inject and keeped things from getting to sore. Remember you are making a deposit that is slowly taken in my your body so it does get sore sometimes.

Lots of luck

True and thanks. So should I massage while injecting? Or pull out slow after? Shots are so expensive I don't want em to leak. And thanks for the info! Xoxo

nope, just inject, wait with needle in place for about 5 seconds, withdraw it and place finger pressure with gauze or bandage or whatever is going to cover it.
