Title: Pink..
Post by: jossef-ftm on September 17, 2013, 05:43:52 AM
I dont know why people always have to critic if they saw a man wearing a pink shirt, i mean it's just a f**ig color,it's not girls color we who made and created those labels''if the new born is a girl bring her pink things if he is a boy bring blue'' those things just in our minds, if you are a man even you wear pink you will be seen as a man if you are a girl even you wear a suit you will still a girl, its what inside your mind, the subjet is really make me angry i think it's really stupid

i dont think it make them less masculin :

I love pink too Jossef. Red is my favorite color, and pink is just a shade of red.

In some cultures pink is a masculine color.

Historically speaking, pink is a boys color :)

Well, personally I dislike pink because manufacturers have hijacked the colour to signify products intended for girls.

I agree that the guys in your pics don't look less masculine because of it... but crucially, they don't look more feminine because of it either. If I were to wear pink, I'd look more feminine because I don't yet have the obvious masculine features that they do.

I remembered we had discussed this on my show and was able to dig up the reference from it.

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2831/was-pink-originally-the-color-for-boys-and-blue-for-girls

QuoteFor years one camp claimed pink was the boys' color and blue the girls'. A 1905 Times article said so, and Parents magazine was still saying it as late as 1939. Why pink for boys? Some argued that pink was a close relative of red, which was seen as a fiery, manly color. Others traced the association of blue with girls to the frequent depiction of the Virgin Mary in blue.

I find that interesting because this would reflect pagan philosophy. They tend to view masculinity and femininity as in union with the forces of nature and being necessary balances against each other. The four elements are Air, Fire, Earth, and Water. Air and fire are considered masculine elements. Earth and water are feminine elements. For instance, they would compare a woman's womb to a hearth that contains the element of fire, the two elements working together to support life (warm your home instead of just burning it down).

I know what you mean, I have banned pink and everything sparkly for years due to the steryotype of it being for girls.
I somehow got over my pink and sparkle-phobia.

Pink actually looks better on men than women, especially tanned/dark skinned men. The dark men in my family always had a pink shirt cause it looked good.

I used to shy away from pink due to the associations with femininity that I didn't want tacked on my person, but as I've become more comfortable in my transition and self, I've found I don't care as much? I have pink dress shirts and I think I look pretty good in them. At the end of the day, it's just a color and I find associating it with a gender to be ridiculous. People are just weird. "Oh pink is for girls, blue is for boys" okaaay then. It just seems like overly tedious and unnecessary stuff.

Some say it's girly

I prefer the saying 'it take a real man to wear pink'

Please excuse me for jumping in here. I don't understand the big deal about pink and it being for girls and not boys; it is after all just a color. If you like it wear it. A man wearing a pink shirt looks good in my book.

I now return you to your regular scheduled posting.

I don't really like baby pink, but bright neon pink I do love.  Especially when next to black.

I would wear pink if I thought it would suit me, but I have red skin as it is lol. But yeah, I think men or women should be allowed to wear whatever they want.

and i haven't got over it yet. mom used to make me wear so much pink and use pink stuff before trans feelings struck me so i VERY RARELY use pink things. but that's only about me, i never judge people by the colour they wear, how does a colour represent your gender, when even the organs of your body can't?

I've never liked pink, and always refused to wear it when I was younger.  I don't know if that was because it was a "female" colour or not.  The only pink thing I owned was a boys' shirt I got when I was probably about nine, but I think I might have finally thrown it out, or at least it's one of the few clothes back at home.

I agree that some men can pull off pink very well, but it depends a lot on the shade and their general look.  I don't know how Jossef pulls off pink because I can't see any posted pictures on this internet network, but I can imagine him being one of the men who can.  I wouldn't think that a man was less masculine because of wearing pink unless there was something else about their demeanour which might highlight it for me.

My fresh-out-of-surgey-chest is sporting a nice pale pink tee at the moment.

My grandfather sometimes wears a neon pink cap and a pink shirt - he's a big hulk of a man, too, and no one gives him any grief for it :D

I personally don't like pink, though.  Even if I could pull it off, I wouldn't because it's just an ugly colour to me.

Man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything.
