Title: Do you ever get mixed up?

In my previous life, I was a bit nerdy. There were times when my shirt pocket would be full of pens and pencils, even a small screwdriver with a clip. That was a long time ago.
I've been sick for a few days – nothing serious, just a cold, but it knocked me down. Last night I was mindlessly getting ready for bed, taking my earrings off, my necklace, my shoes. My blouse was tight across my chest and I patted my hand on my shirt pocket to take out what was there. Then I realized it was my breast. (The blouse has no pocket.) It was a bit disorienting.
When you're not paying attention, do you ever get mixed up?

Serious problem here. I have my head in the clouds about 98% of the time.
Many times I've almost walked out of the house without my wig (sometimes with my hair pinned up already), often forget my jewelry, wear the wrong shoes, even the wrong underwear (I wear men's underwear around the house so my junk can breathe). I've almost gone out without makeup covering my beard shadow, or applied the foundation but not the setting powder. I'm prone to wiping my face first and realizing afterward that I've both makeup stained whatever I wiped it with and that I've wiped off a good bit of my makeup. During the summer I frequently left the house without a scarf to cover my adam's apple and the remains of the chest hair that the epilator misses. And of course my bra and breast forms, well we won't go there
I've had to develop a mnemonic to help remember to check my wig, face, neck, bra, tuck, shoes, and jewelry. I remember to say it about a quarter of the time.

Through my late teens and early 20s I lived part time as a girl and part time trying to pass as a boy. The problem with switching back and forth so much is that I would occasionally be on my way to the washroom and have to stop to look for my reflection to see which washroom to use! Of course by the end of that period using the men's room wasn't a good idea - I'd get dirty looks from everybody! The other problem was names. I would answer to either my boy's name or my girl's name and sometimes it wasn't me somebody was addressing and I was in the wrong gender to have answered to that name. I must have confused the hell out of people ROFL!

in the years after my BA it happened to me at times that I would bump into something or turn around and hit something because I was not used to how much larger I was there with the implants. That hurt a lot sometimes ;)

Once early in my transition I realized in the middle of a lineup at the grocery store that I'd forgotten to put on my boobs before leaving the house, I was wearing a couple of layers of clothing and I seemed to pass without them though, so I just walked the two blocks back to my apartment after paying for my groceries and put on the masectomy bra I was using at the time and I went back out to do the rest of the stuff I had to deal with that day.

That's hillarious! :D I've done the same thing. I'll pat around in my breast pockets thinking there is something there like gum, notes, etc. Turns our it is my actual breast. ;D
