Title: The World Series
Post by: LisaW on September 25, 2013, 05:41:22 AM
Hi all,

Where are my baseball fans? Who do you think will win the World Series? I'm going with the Dodgers, my favorite team

Who I think will win, and who I want to win are two different teams. Who I want to win is Tampa Bay Rays but they will need to do it as a wild card and with a one game playoff anything can happen. Who I think will win is the Boston Red Sox. They haven't lost more than 3 games in a row all season. Their pitching has been solid all year as has their batting. But I really hope the Sox don't win. Go Rays!!!!!!!<3

Pre season, all trades & media had my city of Toronto on paper believing the Blue Jays would be in the World Series. Wow, they blew up, an ugly year, no better than last year. I started watching baseball in the 50's & off and on since, then we got the BJ's. Up to then my fav team was the Brooklyn Dodgers. I still like them. This year the Dodgers & Jays a bit before the All Star game were both doing badly about the same record, but since the two teams went different directions, the Jays have no excuse, they fell apart & Dodgers found their way to winning right to the top of their division with a 10 game lead between first & second. Blue Birds pitcher Dickie said the Jays fans are loyal & deserved better. Darn right. I think they believed the press & thought this year would be a cake walk.

The National League has other teams with a higher number & percentage of games won, could be Atlanta & the Dodgers, Dodgers home & away record of wins & losses is about even, so it doesn't seem to matter about being on the road.

American League, this has been Boston's year, maybe playing Detroit (always respected their coaches).

Bethany, I think you are right, Boston looks like the winning team. Dodgers I would like to see as Champion. Have to see how it all plays out.

I suppose Major League Baseball could say "World Series" when the game expanded to Montreal Expos (since moved to Washington) in 1969 & my home city of Toronto & Toronto Blue Jays 1977. A lot of countries have baseball teams. Cindy has a point, & I agree. Japan has a strong baseball league. Perhaps one day we will have a real World Series, with a play off with the winning team from each country playing.

Now that is an awesome idea!! Throw in other country's that have pro leagues as well and have a true world series tournament.

And as far as this year goes, if Boston makes it to the series I hope they lose to what ever team they are playing. And if it's the Dodgers all the better as that was my grandmother's team and she is the one who got me watching baseball.

Bethany, bless your grandmother leading you to the nick named "Brooklyn Bums." In the fifties I will never forget watching an outstanding catch by left fielder Sandy Amoros  relayed to Pee Wee Reese & threw to Gil Hodges & tagged out a base runner before he could get back to first base. That extinguished the best chance Yankees had in game 7. The Dodgers won the game & World Series. Duke Synder was a popular power hitter & my fav. The announcers were Buddy Blatner & Dizzy Dean. Dizzy was a former pitcher & told a lot of amusing stories & killed the English language lol. I wish they were still in New York. Watched them recently when they were in Toronto playing the Jays.

Oh & yah, your Tampa Bay fav is a Blue Jay killer, especially at the Trop. They can string a lot of base hits together & play the small ball good hitting team.

Sounds like I'm going to be the only rooting for the Tigers on here.

Granted their last few games were a joke, we still have one of the best pitching rotations in either league and Cabrera is once again the batting champ this year, even though he's been playing mostly injured for the past couple months.  A little time off to regain their energy and they'll be ready for Oakland.  Especially after the way they fell apart in the WS last year, they'll want to make up for it and show everyone they have what it takes to win it all.

I'll admit I haven't payed much too attention to baseball this year. Probably for the best. My favorite team, the Cubs, has not done well this season at all. Then again, even if they had, would anyone actually expect them to win? I mean, they haven't won a World Series IN OVER A CENTURY! The last few times they've come close, they collapsed spectacularly. >_<

I love to tell the joke, "the last time the Dodgers won the World Series, I actually had hope for the future:)". It was just before my 19th birthday. Wow how times have changed! I grew up in a religious family, so I hadn't even admitted to myself that I was bisexual/gay yet. Now I'm about 90% gay, and I want to be a woman! Life is so strange! But one thing that hasn't changed is how much I love the Dodgers, especially Matt Kemp. He is so hot!!! And that brings up another subject, who are the hottest male sports stars? Not just baseball, all sports. It's almost 3:00am, so I'll just name a few. I'll be back tomorrow with more. But just off the top of my head, Andre Ethier, also of the Dodgers, is so hot! And  Kobe Bryant is really hot, and I like Roger Federer, Tom Brady, Sugar Ray Leonard, etc. Male athletes are so hot!!! I really think I need a boyfriend:) I'm really drunk right now, so I am tottaly rambling, I'll follow this post up tomorrow when I'm sober. Bye for now everyone

I'm very excited about todays game 1 of the Boston Red Sox verses the Tampa Bay Rays. This should be a very close series.

And Lisa to answer your question. I find Evan Longoria of the Rays, to be extreamly handsome.

Hey Bethany was thinking about your home town Boston playing your fav Tampa Bay team wild card play off match up surviving sudden death 1 gamer beating Texas and Cleveland, winning all on the road, all that travel in a busy end to the regular season. Good luck. May try & catch some of the game this afternoon.

@Bethany, I went to a pub in late afternoon, but they didn't have the game on, missed it but saw news at home. Quite a route by Boston winning 8 to 2!

You didn't miss much the Sox won 12 - 2. I need a drink to forget this game.

Guess the sports report I saw wasn't final score. I can tell you one reason why Toronto fans don't like Boston is the turn coat coach they booed John pretty good because it seems there was always the deal with Boston management that he get a couple of years experience with the Jays & he has the coaching job back in Boston. His heart didn't seem to be in it & I think Jays fans including me sensed it by a lack of good decision making. I don't like Boston's hockey team either. I like underdogs, so I hope Tampa pulls an upset. Too bad about the first game for your fav team.

Game two between the Rays and Sox is about to start. I certainly hope that today's game is closer then yesterday's.

I'm no fan of Farrell. That being said, going back to Gibby wasn't much of an improvement.  :-\

@ Princess, You are right about Gibby. When I heard he was coming back, I said to my wife, "No, why are they giving this guy a second chance?" I am sure there were better candidates out there. Looks like the lousy year proved we are right.

@Bethany, sorry about your fav Tampa, but I believe we knew Boston wasn't going away.

My fav Dodgers are into the next round, woo hoo!

UGH!!! The Dodgers went down. This is not looking like a good sports year for me. My teams are the Dodgers, the Lakers, the Cowboys, and in college football USC. The Dodgers were my best hope, and now they're done. Oh well, I can always take up bird watching  :D

I lost track of or was out on the night of the games this week & reading in the sports in newspaper that Dodger & Detroit were trailing in their series. At least Detroit is tied up with Boston now. I saw some of the Dodgers game last night & omg they got trounced. I am so disappointed. St. Louis sure had the small ball strategy, well placed hits, scored a lot of runs with two out, good on them, they deserved the win. Dodgers errors, were was the competitive sense when you backs are to the wall.

I think Detroit is back in their ball park today, hope they win. It looks more likely it is St. Louis & Boston for the WS.

Detroit is playing in Boston. Boston is up 3 games to 2. I hope Detroit finds a way to win the next two games.

Boston Braves vs the St Louis Browns? I'd put my money on the Braves unless Eddie Gaedel gets hot.

Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox. This certainly was their year. They never lost more than 3 games in a row all season. And with what Boston went through with the bombing this year the city really pulled together.

Bethany, I missed some games & only able to check in to check the score, but looks like we had it figured out when we started this thread, much in all as neither of us wanted Boston to win. Wasn't the cleanest of games played, but Boston was the power house, they had the talent & didn't just win by a whisker.
