Title: I stink
Post by: randomroads on September 29, 2013, 08:32:32 AM
So I'm overweight, which will increase smells because that's just what extra body mass and folds tend to do. I bathe regularly and put on a fresh coat of deodorant daily. However, it never fails that a few hours after a bath I stink, especially in the crotch region. I've found that I cannot wear tight fitting underwear. I absolutely must wear loose fitting boxers or the smell is pretty strong.

It's not just the crotch though. It's my arm pits and feet, too. I seem to be sweating more than I did normally and the only thing that's changed is I'm on T now. I'd describe the smell as 'dude smell.' My guy smells nearly the same after a few hours from his last shower.

Anyone notice this happening to them? Any advice? Have you noticed others smelling you or been told you stink by others? I worry that since I'm not passing, everyone around me can smell me and think I'm some disgusting, nasty female who never takes care of herself.

Get better deodorant. Being overweight doesn't make you smell more, it just makes you sweat more. So you may find you need to shower more often that others if the sweat builds up, but it's not like your actual sweat itself starts off smelling different to non overweight individuals. I find solid sticks work the best. Mitchum works wonders for me. Anything else just has a smell to mask the smell from sweat but is never enough for me.

As for crotch and feet, you can buy absorbing powders to soak up the sweat.  It also helps to trim hair in pits and crotch. I keep both very short.  If it's bad in pits and you never wear anything that shows them, or you just don't care, shave them entirely. Hair = more sweat being trapped and lingering.  Honestly, I admit that as of last week, I shave them entirely because it just leads to far easier cleaning. After taking a shower and scrubbing away there with shower gel, I left the shower shocked that they STILL smelled, so I just shaved and problem was immediately gone.

I'm not overweight but I workout and train A LOT! And I've noticed I sweat a ton more than I used to. After a hard Taekwon-do class, when I'm laying on the floor for cool down stretches, it's like a puddle starts forming around me. However, by using stick, odorless deodorant and powder, it's meant that the smell isn't so bad at all, if there's any smell at all!

Poor you!  When I went through male puberty my smell amped up and its pretty damn embarassing.

Try a good roll on deodorant- you can apply this thickly to block the problem areas whereas with spray deodorant you can overdose on the scent.  A lot of guys tend to copy whats on ads and do long, long sprays... all thats going to do is increase peoples bad reaction- uhgn.  Do a patch test before applying your roll on to your groin.

I found dove make good deos without scent.  You can always spritz a little cologne on later.  Experiment with crystal deodorants if the regular roll ons fail.

+1 on powders soak to soak wetness up.  There are two smells... your scent and bacteria enjoying the moisture.  Uhg.  It will also reduce skin irritation from chafing between fat rolls.

Strong foods also effect your sweat smell (and taste).  Onions are a good one to avoid.

Look for sportsgear with 'wicking' action... this draws moisture away from your body so it can evaporate before bacteria party.  Wicking fabric is brilliant.  I love wicking socks and often wear them in my doc matins for everyday wear.

If your natural smell continues to strengthen, perhaps see a gp.  I knew a guy who washed three times a day and no one could go near him... a skinny, regular, well laundered cis gen bloke too.  He had a condition that he finally got treated for

Best wishes!

my dad recommends those mineral deodorants. i haven't been able to try them because i haven't been to a shop that has them yet, but they say those can be used pretty much anywhere on the body. they don't smell anything at all, so it's not possible to overdose on them either.

changing your diet will also change your smell. there should be more than enough sites out there with advice for how to make certain bodily fluids smell and taste better, and i think those diet advice will help with all body odor.

My younger brother, only 16, had similar issues. No matter how often he changed his shirt,  he'd smell of sweat. So I went online and searched for something that could possibly help, and came up with a deo that sort of inhibits sweat production. It is applied once every 5 days or so, and my brother told me that it really works wonders. He sweats a lot less, and he stinks a lot less as well. I believe it isn't scented, so you could use another deo in order to smell nice. Maybe this kind of deo would help for you too? I don't think it can be applied on anything but arm pits, but it would help at least partially.

Thanks for the advice folks! I've never heard of mineral deodorants. At the moment I'm using unscented Secret gel which worked great for me in the past but just isn't cutting it for about the past month. Obviously I can't apply that to the groin. I'll look into the deodorant suggestions and see if I can find them locally or if I'll have to order.

My feet sweat and smell so strongly that I've had to resort to washing my shoes. I did go see a doctor to see if I had a fungus on my feet, but I checked out healthy. I've been wearing flip flops as much as possible but even then my feet just smell funky. It's not an 'OMG what died on your feet?!' smell, thankfully.

I'm also trying to find a list of foods that are internal deodorizers. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.

http://www.thecrystal.com/ (http://www.thecrystal.com/). can be used on feet also.
products that make you stop sweating will make you smell better, but aren't necessarily healthy (i don't think too many studies have been made on that)

i use a special handmade soap for my crotch area. it contains lactic acid, and makes me very clean even without shaving, and i'll smell like citrus for a day. i can't use any other products there, even just pure water can make me itchy, but that one contains the necessary acid that water and other soaps wash away. not sure if it would be as effective if i were on t, haven't gotten that far yet.

Sounds interesting- I love seaweed soap from lush but it seems to be quite a harsh soap and it makes me wonder what its doing to my skin.   I end up using dove body scrub.

The old spice commercial seems to suggest being on a horse helps. ;)

shave your junk, all of it, and invest in a bottle of talcum powder, even a "store brand" bottle will do the trick, spend like 10 mins drying yourself to get every tiny itty bit of moisture off you, then talc. but definately shave the heck out of your junk if you dont, those furries are just a breeding ground for bacteria

Some people find Mitchum to be more effective. Don't really know.

I trim my pubes as short as I can tolerate, but shaving to the skin is excruciatingly itchy and painful about 6 hours after when the hair grows long enough to catch on everything. That's when I get giant welts caused by ingrown hairs that make it difficult to walk because they hurt so bad.
