No one goes into Grand Theft Auto expecting political correctness. [. . . ] Which brings us to the game's depiction of transgender women. Bad Trans Jokes, a Tumblr which catalogs transphobic jokes in pop culture, posted several entries on GTA V this week that are difficult to read.
When I found and greeted a group of them, the main characters had the following things to say:
Michael: Hello, sir. I mean, madam. I mean, ~whatever~

I really don't get upset about it either to much sure I don't like being the target of ridicule. But really it's not going to ruin my life and I kinda get they are just trying to pander to their target audience who are amused by such jokes. But I have played the game myself and they make fun of just about everything it's not like the whole game is filled with only jokes about trans women. ;)

Most were offensive, but tbh, I found the "post-op" truck very funny lol.
GTA is just offensive all around though. Anyone who takes much that the game says in seriouness probably has much larger issues with people, and I'd doubt they blend into society very well as a result. At least, that's what I tell myself. :P

GTA ... goes out of its way to make fun of ... everyone, really. Out of the games I've played in the GTA series I can recall off the top of my head cracks at LGBT people, the far right, liberals, the news, the police, black people, Mexicans, Asians, women, men, Italians, fast food, martial arts, talk radio, geeks, jocks ... eeeeeeeeveryone. No one is safe in Grand Theft Auto ...

I have been seeing alot of young gamers that have been crying that GTA is life like, many stating that other games should be just like GTA V because its just that real and everything else *sucky made* if its not. There have been kids that have broken the law in the name of GTA,including one well known that led cops on a chase down town and then claimed he seen it in GTA.No we shouldnt take offence but we should also not be ignorant and believe that such things do not influence because they do and in very large scales. And the very sad reality is that,if any crime toward the LGBT were to result, then the excuse would be *i learned it in the game* and only a slap on the wrist given, with parent in tow to defend them.

It comes back to the south park theory, either everything is ok to make fun of, or nothing is.....
I'll stick to Saints Row anyway, its like GTA but fun.

Well, you could flip the other side of that coin as well. It also comes down to the parents for being pathetic, lousy parents for raising some stupid morons.
I grew up on all kinds of things like Stephen King books, heavy metal and I watched horror/gore films all of the time. I never killed anyone or went on a crime spree due to that.
If I were a kid in this generation, and was playing GTA, I wouldn't be so stupid as to emulate what is in the game.
Again, it comes down to poor parenting and the fact that their offspring are moronic imbeciles.
+1
Kids are not as dumb as they'd lead you to believe. They don't learn to do bad things from games. They may learn specific ideas from games, but these kids are going to do bad things regardless. Video games don't create monsters. Monsters play video games. And so do normal people.

I do agree. And simple minds are the easiest to twist and that being true, that is one reality people need to remember. Many kids are not taught to be grounded or independent and thus, lose sight on what is reality and fantasy.Alot of gamers are taught well *i was kind of forced to be realistic* and do not blur the lines or fall easy to such things. But that was mainly my first point. The ones crying about such things ARE these types of people and knowing their track record,i would never put anything past them and thats the part we should keep in mind.the game its self should be viewed by a mature adult but sadly, thats about 40% of the case, knowing the audience that plays the game. Most are 16 year old kids that have parents who have no issues breaking the rating and giving it to their kid anyway.

Yeah honestly, there isn't even enough trans discrimination to really call this transphobic. I mean, come on like 2 small areas, and 1 delivery service joke which was more humorous than it was offensive. This really doesn't warrant any kind of hype from us. It's so minute and just there like it is for 10 or 11 other social groups.
Sure, we as a group have it harder than most, but in all fairness they don't actually hit us THAT hard either.

Another thing to note is that most of the characters in the games are deginerates that people aren't supposed to look up to. It's not like we are supposed to get serious social lessons from a game that centers around crime and complete moral decay. Well, you can learn something, but the games purpose isn't to give you heroic characters to idealize. At the end of the day, I couldn't care what someone like Nicko from GTA4 would say about us because the guy is personally responsible for mass killings. He's not someone to look up to. I'm not familiar with the new game, but imagine it isn't much different.

Like many other video games Grand Theft Auto is made to be as shocking and insolent as possible, so calling it transphobic is really just looking to be offended at something that was never meant to target anyone specifically. Especially when the game makes fun of just about all kinds of people!
Most of us know the difference between fantasy and reality, those 'kid shoots up school because of video game' stories are 1/1 million and theres usually a much bigger problem than violent video games for the cause.

Well, if I was a kid in this generation (some say I'm regressing a bit...but that's a post for another thread. :D) and my parents bought that game for me, I would have enough common sense to realize that it's only a game. Even back in the day I had a high enough IQ to realize that the news is far more disturbing than any horror film, or novel (or anything else that was blamed for "moral decay" at the time.)
Besides, I've always maintained that GTA is just a more visual and graphic take on "Cops & Robbers" that you played as a kid. (Well..there weren't any pimps or prostitutes, though.)
Yes i have been playing GTA since 2 and i as well have enough common sense to know whats right and wrong and being how i was taught,i learned how to separate fantasy from reality and it allows me to just get away mentally from the real world. And i cant say i ever got to play cops and robbers lol just like from water boy: *its ob the bebil/devil* haha XD we tend to be lacking these days in IQ and common sense.

Well then you have never played all the gta's because lol they were ment to target certain groups but never ment to be seen as a threat to said group.Call it a roast of sorts.Jokes in very bashing ways but jokes non the less. The convo at hand tho was if it should be taken personal and if the outcome could cause such ignorant people,to act out on those crimes.Depending on how the child is raised and perceive things, they could act out yes.For example, not even a few days ago-a teen was arrested for attacking and assaulting his mother because she turned off his ps3.So you never know.

Those games take the piss out of the very masculine role that they are relying on FAR more than any minority group, laugh at their portayals of straight masculine men instead of worrying about the others, the characters are parodies and critiques on modern society.
Just a shame so many people miss that.

Maybe I have a soft spot for Grand Theft Auto, but I think some people actively try to be offended. A friend of mine calls it "outrage porn." Christ, I've been guilty of this, myself!
Also, the "Post-Op" truck made me laugh.

Also, I think of it as an honor to be lampooned in Grand Theft Auto. As a skater, the only roasting I think we ever got was an "upcoming" piece on conservative radio in San Andreas, called "Is Skateboarding Making Your Son Gay?" I think in 4, there was an ad in the location where the Brooklyn Banks (a historic skate spot in New York) would be, for a "Backside Skateboard Company," with the B in "backside" shaped like a butt. But that's more of a nod to skateboarding, than a roast.
Grand Theft Auto is a drunk version of real life.

Actually, I've played GTA 2, 3, vice city and now 5, and no they arent made to target specific groups of people. I dont know how you got that out of each video game because they've always made fun of any and everything available. It's not like they're trying to entice hate crimes.
As for a teen attacking his mother for turning off his PS3, thats just another example of bad parenting and not a video game influencing someones actions. People serously need to look at the bigger picture here. There are always so many more contributing factors than 'violent games'.

Everything you stated, just repeated exactly what i said but phrased differently.

Yes they target certain groups of people. This includes alot of minority's.Color, age, gender, sexuality, beliefs and many other things.Because its not a *politically correct* game and never will be.And i myself agreed before hand and in this post, that parenting plays a huge factor,so trying to correct me on these things is pointless.Aside from the fact i stated you have never played the GTA series, which seems to have offended you, everything else pretty much agreed. So im confused.

Getting mad at GTA for this stuff is as pointless and getting mad at South Park. It's what they do. These games are filled with jokes, bad puns and just about everything you can think of concerning every major hot button issue there is.

This game also says to vote for "medical cocaine", i think that the jokes mean discrimination is just as dumb as everything else in that game.
