There's no specific federal law that addresses schools and transgender students, so some filings cite similar federal employment cases, among them Macy v. Holder, a key 2012 Equal Employment Opportunity Commission finding that unfair workplace treatment of transgender people was a form of sex discrimination illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

This article discusses trans students in the USA and legal issues.

It's a strange paradox isn't it. To look passable one has to transition early with no life experience to build self esteem on required to transition successfully. Older girls, like me, don't pass very well, but have the life experience to transition successfully having built good self esteem. Yikes! Darned if we do, darned if we don't.

I think you hit the nail right on the head here. And honestly, it's just so sad that this is the way it is. It's not because of us, but because we live in such an ignorant society.

You got the ignorance part right. Had dinner with friends last night. One works at the Air Force base. He was told by the squadron commander "Hope you all have 6 months to 1 year of pay saved up". They are gearing up for the possibility of the government shutdown for up to a year! Hope the Colonel was wrong.

In regards to Jessica's comment here, a few years ago I found a local Flea Market that I would visit quite frequently. Then I started to go there dressed. Because the tenants knew me from my male mood they started to complian. The last time I was in their, the owner called the police on me and had me escorted out. Now that I'm going full time, should I go back and fight it with a discrimination and ask where they have a sign that prohibits transgender people from being in this establishment?
