Title: end of the road but with one possible detour.
Post by: Gadgett on October 12, 2013, 07:29:40 PM
Im not sure what to do anymore. I have a degree in electronics, a ba in graphic design, police experience, and am an OIF vet. Out of all of that id figure i would be able to build a career in something. But everything is a deadend.

Me and mubby want to transition but its all been fruitless. I am so sick of my life and this world i just want to drive down the infinity high at around 110 and splatter my brians from here to VA. I remember as a child having hopes.and dreams that this world has completely stripped me of. I have nothing left inside me, its all gone.

So why have i not done it yet? Because of my hubby who needs me... And one last sliver of light in the crack of my coffin.

Im thinking of trying school one last time. I hear they will.do anything to get people in these days. But i need a plan which is why im writting this. I need a career that not.only can i make a.life for us with, but also can transition at.

My family is suggesting medical as it has proven to be recesion proof. But i need other ideas. Please. If anyone has any. I would love to.hear from you.

You have to do what you feel is right. If that's going back to school, using your electronics or graphic design, or using anything else you have already and trying to do something with it.
Personally, I'd want to have a stable job while I transition, but also one that won't be discriminatory, with a preference to one that includes coverage for transformative procedures and surgeries.
In the end, it's all up to you, feel deep inside, and pull out what you really want from life, and what you're going to do about it.

We had an Oklahoma City Police Officer transition on the job with a history like yours: degree, ODS-1, etc. She seemed to be fairly supported and was the subject of front page and television news reports and is still on the job. How about using the electronics degree in hospital maintenance or biomedical equipment repair. You sound like you might find an adventure in relocating. Give Oklahoma a try. While we are still redneck and rodeo things are slowly coming around and people here are some of the best to be around in a pinch. Just look at how we support each other in natural emergencies and how we respond to other states with manpower and supplies. I am a retired Paramedic/Firefighter so I know this area and state well and it is OK. Take care baby!  :)

Maybe look into a transit agency? That's what I'm doing, it's 100% supportive, good pay, easy work (just avoid collisions in spite of the other driver's best efforts).

That said...what line of work are you--or were you--thinking of? And where? Here in the Seattle area there are a TON of aviation and computer/electronic companies, Boeing (http://www.boeing.com/boeing/careers/index.page?), Microsoft (http://careers.microsoft.com/), Valve (http://www.valvesoftware.com/jobs/job_postings.html) (Half-Life)....and not just the big-name hoo-haas, but several hundred smaller companies.

Im afraid, i dont understand. Who is,suppose to help? The army coukdnt give two plaged rat rearends and getting help from the va is harder that doing a rectal exaime on a hippo with afterbirth. Not yo say the va has been completely useless, but i cant afford to takebtheir suggestions.

Ab example is the veterns hitline? Yeah, that goes over. Put me in a hospiyal and leave my wife to fend for herself. That'll fix things. <.<

Not trying to be mean, just tired of getting shadted

And, with a graphic arts degree, Bungiee is also there, if you're into that kind of thing.
I'm just amazed how ones and zeroes turns into Halo.
But Seattle is quite the progressive city, many industries, and the people there are generally accepting. Never been, but it has the "west coast vibe" that I got from California and Oregon.

Any chance of a return to studies in an institution that has transgender medical care coverage? Something like what Brown University provides? Sorry, I'm Canadian so navigating the American health care system is (literally) foreign to me, but some institutions are beginning to recognize our health care needs.

As for career options, anything that you can think of that you could apply with regards to post grad studies and apply for scholarships/bursaries?

Unfortunately, from what I know, it;s only private univeristies so far. The ones I know for sure are American, Brown, Duke, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford. I still kick myself for not being able to get into the last one, my dad would have been happy too, I would have had 80% of costs covered by scholarship.
I think though that no matter where you go (unless it's Samford (not Stanford, totally different school) or something like that) You'll always be able to have someone on your side , trying to get you some financial support, or the lit e but of emotional support we can give.
