I've recently heard that whilst on hormones your prostate can shrink and develop fluid's more in line to the fluids produced by natal females from the Skene gland. I.e similar texture and smell to female lubrication. Is there any truth to this?

Yes, from my experience, true.

I'm pre-op but about five months since I've ramped up to full-dose HRT.

If I get aroused, I can start getting discharge without ejaculating. What comes out is much more like vaginal fluid than semen - it's clear, slippery and viscous.

Thanks, Suzi, for that info. Questions about lubrication in the neo-vagina post-SRS have always plagued me. It's exciting that you can almost develop one of your old male organs into its female counterpart.

My experience seems to indicate it has shrunk. I'm in my late 40s and had noticed the pee flow (if I can put it so indelicately) was nothing like my youth prior to HRT but that has really started to change this last month, and I'm four months in now.

My understanding is that prostate exams are still needed, at least until some point post SRS. Anyone know the answer to that one?

This is according to my doctor. Prostate exams are still important to continue doing. The risk of prostate cancer/illness is diminished, but never gone. So exams are still important.

So long as you have the prostate gland, which you always will, there will ALWAYS be a risk for prostate cancer.  Same thing for male breast cancer.  They don't have boobs or support boob growth much (usually).  They STILL can get breast cancer.

It's a shame they can't pop the prostate out when doing SRS...

Skene's glands are more commonly called the "female prostate."  They serve the same general reproductive function.  That is to say, provide lubrication during intercourse, and to help neutralize the natural acidic environment of the vagina.

I have found that by singing "Moon River" during the exam, it helps relieve the tension.

I can't speak for anyone else, but it certainly seems to be the case for me. (At least in terms of naked-eye observation; I have no idea whether the microscopic composition is identical!) Smell, texture, and taste are now very similar to my wife's. It's definitely clear, as well as thin and slippery, and produced at arousal. I'm fairly sure that the delivery mechanism is via the urethra instead of "sweating" through the vaginal walls the way it is with a cis woman, but realistically if *I* can't tell exactly where it's coming from it's unlikely anyone else can.

Post-GRS, prostate exams can be done vaginally. :) In fact, the positioning is more or less the same as it is for the female G-spot (about an inch into the vagina, on the upper wall, just beyond the pubic bone), so it's pretty easy for someone very familiar with cis female anatomy to locate.

And yes, removing the prostate has the same risk for us as it does for cis men - it's entangled with a lot of important nerves and anatomical features, so there's a high risk of incontinence or permanent sexual nerve damage if it's messed with. Personally, I appreciate what it does for me now, so I'm OK with having it preserved!
