Title: Coming out some more

As you all can see, I am reasserting my original username, the one I chose back in 2005 when I first signed on to Susan's Place. I originally changed it to "Emelye" because I had changed my real, legal name to Helen and I was unwilling to allow people to recognize my association with this site while I was looking for a new job.
The new job never showed up anyway and while I like the nickname (it comes from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, "The Knight's Tale") it isn't really my name. I've changed it on my Facebook page as well. I'll be making the change in #Chat when I'm finished with this post.
This is another step in my refusal to be ashamed of being a transsexual woman. I'm doing this because I feel safe enough in the world to acknowledge who I really am. I do not judge if others choose to remain anonymous and use pseudonyms, it's their life, not mine. I do think, however, that those trans people who can come out safely should do so to provide the visibility that our community absolutely requires if we want people to grant us political and social equality.
This site and its members over the years have proven to be an immeasurable help to me throughout my transition. Another reason I want to remove the pseudonym is that I want to remove the lie that I was presenting to all of you. I feel I owe the community that much, at least.

Congratulations... wow, that's a big step. I hope that one day I have the confidence to do as you have done. In the meanwhile, I'm still learning the ropes, so to speak.

I likewise recently changed my accounts at Susan's, FB, etc., to reflect my legal name, Shana. It feels truly wonderful for all my different lives to intersect; music, trans community, Judaism... nothing is hidden anymore.
