Title: Personal Power

I posted this yesterday on my twitter, but I also feel like it could use reposting here. If you are wondering why here, well, think of it as my rant against negativity.
(I decided to keep it in the original 140 char line format, but I'll break it up to be less annoying.)
So I've been thinking a lot lately about how the power of the things I tell myself every day has a huge impact in shaping my future.
I suppose I should preface this with a warning that if you can't stand ppl talking about choosing to be positive then go ahead and mute me.
This is being brought on cuz I've seen a lot of negativity lately, not only coming from myself, but from many of the others around me.
If all you see in life is what you can't do or become then you are limiting your vision of how beautiful your future can be. >>
Everyone has ->-bleeped-<- to deal with in their lives. Everyone has times where they've gone through hell and it seems the world is against them >>
So much so that they may ask "What's the point? I'll never be 'X'. I'll never achieve my goals, my dreams, my desires--so why continue?" >>
Such statements take away from your power to actualize your dreams; and if said often enough will become self-fulfilling prophecies. >>
If you tell yourself in the mirror every day that you are ugly then... welp, go figure. It shouldn't be a surprise if that's all you see >>
OTOH, if you actually look at yourself in the mirror and tell that person how beautiful they are, that they are loved and worthy of love >>
You might just be amazed at the positive impact and change such a mindset can bring. YOU are the master of your own happiness. >>
And I'm not saying to just be "Tra la la la de da" and puking rainbows every day. That's not normal, not human. Allow yourself to feel. >>
Life can be brutal and merciless at times, sometimes relentlessly. It is perfectly fine to express your pain, loss, and discouragement. >>
But don't roll over and live forever in it. You only perpetuate the pain when you do. Instead, see these moments as an invitation. >>
It isn't life telling you that you can't, it is life inviting you to rise above it all and prove that you can forge your own destiny. >>
Failure is just an invitation to be creative, to be brilliant, to grow strong and overcome the obstacles facing you. >>
Unexplainable hardships are an invitation to learn of love and compassion. Not only to give, but be willing to seek and receive. >>
Success will never be achieved by languishing in failure, nor will happiness ever be found by abiding in misery.
And I can already hear others saying "That may be easy for you to say Alaia, but you have no *edit*ing idea how bad my life sucks."
And that's probably true. I don't know how bad or difficult it is for anyone else because I'm not them. Everyone's experience is unique. >>
There may be similarities in our hardships that allow us to feel empathy for one another. But no one knows how hard it is for you but you.
Which also means that no one has the power to set the conditions of your happiness but you. >>
If you are tired of being miserable then recognize that only you have the power to change this, no one else. #personalpower
Anyway, I'm going to step down from my soapbox now. I've said what I felt needs to be said.

This is an amazing post! Thank you for posting it. I find the following section resonates with me quite a bit:
Life can be brutal and merciless at times, sometimes relentlessly. It is perfectly fine to express your pain, loss, and discouragement. >>
But don't roll over and live forever in it. You only perpetuate the pain when you do. Instead, see these moments as an invitation. >>

Well said. Thank you, Alaia... it may be easier to say than to do, but ultimately we can only control our own personal reactions.
A co-worker once told me, "Remember, you're only a co-star in the movie of your life." That got me thinking, "Hey, I should be the star!", then "Oh... that was the point."
