Title: Your home and HRT/transitioning
Post by: Cindy on October 28, 2013, 02:16:14 AM
This isn't meant in anyway to be sexist.

One thing I have noticed over the time I've transitioned is the urge to make my home more 'homily'. I like to decorate and change my home to suit me, possibly it is more of a 'nesting' response.

Has anyone else noticed this, either guys or girls?

I just like the place to be 'nice'. "He" basically was happy to not bother with housework unless totally necessary but I noticed today that I was singing away, tidying my place, moving furniture, renewing the flowers. Just making the place nice.

I'm not expecting visitors, although you are all welcome to drop in if you are around!

Goddess I even ironed the table cloth!

I am finding more pride in keeping my place nice and neat as well as clean.
He was a bit of a grub but not that bad.
Planning on repainting inside, new curtains and getting some plants for my large balconies.

I've found myself keeping my bedroom space a lot tidier and less cluttered than it used to be.  It's hoovered (which he never bothered with) and there are no longer half finished projects from whatever crafting I'm working on laying about, the floordrobe is limited to unused areas of the room :)

I've found myself wanting a clean break from his old habitat, I tried changing bedrooms but still feel like I need a break from the actual building, I feel I need to live somewhere more homey and less studenty with less

Bit of a shame really as there is a nice sized garden that my kitty loves to explore and I love living with the other people in the house, but when it's time for a change there's not point in putting it off...

I find I keep the 'public' areas in my place a lot nicer, places other people will see.. But my room has always been and always will be a mess.. I can find everything that way.

Ye, I got new blinds, a trip to IKAE for some wall units and some new chairs from a second hand place. Framed some of my photos and hung them and ordered a few pics from Deviant Art. My place is rocking!!! So am I, in case you haven't noticed

And yes Kaylee, our new lives need new places maybe?

IKEA is evil!

And I just looked around my room and realised what I call a mess has changed.. What I now call a mess used to be quite neat and tidy..   ;D

Your place looked like a bomb site the last time I was around

The joys of shared housing..

I'm going OK.. Most days are good. Being a parent has it's moments, learning that one on the job.

You know me, life is for living - just sometimes I live a little too hard..

Ikea seems like it would be a weird place, I've never actually been, though this website (http://ikeaordeath.com/) has peeked my interest and shall be going to get all new stuff soon (no more ingrained boy smell bed sheets/duvets!!!).

I am getting the urge to put nicely framed pics/posters up, something I haven't done since my teens.

That's my thinking too, luckily my best friend of 15 years has a room going at the moment so I'm moving in there.  I'm just a tad scared of telling my current housemates I'm off - I don't know why though, I've had the scariest conversations I will ever have with anyone ever this year  ;), everything else should be a cakewalk!

I used IKAE for their ideas. I decided I wanted modular stuff, so I got the ideas and then designed my layout. It worked well, at least I think so. I got them to deliver and it took a few hours to put it together but now I have a very flexible lay out.

As far as saying stuff and moving on. I'm, believe it or not, quite shy, well he was. But I made the decision that I would never be trapped by others again, so I deliberatly face the challenges and go for it. Sure I've made mistakes and embarrassed myself, but each time I do it it get easier to be me.

I grow.

I have to me me, so I'm going to push. No more hiding, no more fear. Even if I'm quaking inside.

I don't deserve to be frightened of being me and no one will have that power over me ever again.

Sorry!! :-*

I'm kind of failing on the domestic front, although things are somewhat cleaner and tidier than say this time last year it's not much of an improvement. Part of the problem is having so much going on with work and appointments that I'm not making the time I need to available to be super tidy, even though I'd like to be...

I was a messy git for a  good long while post starting hrt, but after 7/8 months I couldn't stand the clutter anymore...give it time :)

I think I've always felt the need to make my home special. When I live in a place that's messy or rundown, it brings me down. I don't think it's the result of HRT or transition - more kind of a feminine mindset.

I have been alone for the past few weeks and find myself tidying up a lot more than I used to LOL..... I live in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment so there really isn't much room to buy stuff so i've gone minimalist. I just don't want more and more stuff lying around gathering dust. A clean functional living space really appeals to me right now.

My bedroom and bathroom are all I really have right now. Everything else is shared... and kids destroy things. Plus my wife is messy - though she's always said it was me... I'm cluttered, she's messy.

And cluttered is still pretty accurate. I try to keep things clean (which is difficult at times) but I just don't have enough room for my stuff. I've been planning on getting the unworking computer (that I have to save - it will work someday!) out of my bedroom for weeks!!

I'm a whirlwind of house cleaning....LOL. Was a bit messy in my last incarnation, I have to admit, but it was because I just didn't care...about anything, really.
Now I clean and tidy the place daily....each day I have areas that I focus on, in addition to the general daily stuff, and every Saturday morning I go through the whole house.

Yeah....I know...it sounds like a lot. But my room mate is a effin' slob, and in all our years together I've only made slight progress on that front. She's lucky I love her like a sister ;)
