Title: MTF: doctors
Post by: spx_1112 on November 04, 2013, 07:17:18 AM
Pre and Post girls-  do you see a GP, internist, endo or OB/GYN?

Im post. I just go to a doctor. But then I am health and have no problems. On the other hand if I did have problems I would still go to a regular doctor. If he didn't know how to help me I could research the information off the internet (written by doctors) and educated him or her.

In any case the blood tests and hormones dosages are pretty standardized. It does not take a specialist to help a trans person.

Being pre and HRT for 10 weeks now I see the Therapist, Endocrinologist, Internist and the Lab quite a bit. Cost would be a killer if I wasn't using the University for all the above. Good discounts because they use my info for research. There are not exactly a lot of us special and wonderful people where I live, but I have been treated with the utmost respect and courtesy by all involved.  :)

Doctor only.  Done the psychiatrist bit.  Doctor is experienced with HRT and even (out of courtesy I imagine) asked what I wanted. Lab has a collection point at the Doctors office too. All very easy and civilised.  Like others, if you are healthy, there doesn't seem to be any reason to  over-engineer things.  Fix what you can via lifestyle yourself (diet and exercise, cut the poisons out).

Both pre- and post-op I use an endo for hormones, but of course see a regular GP for physicals and all other routine healthcare. :)

I've been doctor-free for around 7 years now. Just don't like them, they are always trying to find something wrong...

I am part of an HMO that I have learned to make the most of.  I can actually go to one doctor (my internal medicine doc.) and if he is puzzled by something about me he can E mail my other four providers, an allergist, an endocrinologist, a hematologist, or my gyencologist for an answer, and my endo counts twice because of Type II diabetes, or I get to go down the hallway to two of them for in person, or go out to another medical facility a short ways away by shuttle bus for the other two.

I have a standing referral to a GT who is actually looking for post-op patients to help the HMO learn about what we do go through in our golden ages of post life.  I will be making an appointment there in the next month because there are some strange but generally nice issues coming up that I know I cannot talk to most friends or family about because they will go all weird on me if I do <lets face it, they have already>.

I pay $10US for each doctor / therapist I visit in person, and labs are fully covered, prescriptions are $5US for 30 days or $15US for 100 days for all but a tiny number of meds.  I am not kicking,

Oh yeah -- I also have had a mammogram (free) which turned up a small suspicious growth in my right breast and had a needle biopsy done on it.  Non cancerous fibrous intrusion but what a shock.
