Title: Top surgery Finished!!
Post by: aleon515 on November 07, 2013, 11:13:26 AM
Hi guys,

Had surgery Oct 29 with Dr. G. Funny thing, but ran into the famous Jayr on the way. I thought I'd bump into him but we spent a LOT of time in the danged waiting room. Anyway surgery went well. I had an easy recovery as they go. Didn't take pain meds as the pain was pretty manageable. (Actually more worried re: constipation.) Took the Bromelian, Arnica, and Zyrtec for itchiness, which helped a little. I am very happy to be back home. Slept in a real bed last night. :)

Actually a little worried re: left nipple. Might have rubbed against something or pulled, a little blood around the edges, nothing horrendous or gushing. But looks way less good than the right one.

Asked Dr. G if he stood on his patients to get the bandages so tight. He took me very seriously and said no and laughed when I said it was a trade secret.  :)

congrats Jay!

How did traveling there go? Did you end up getting to stay at New Beginnings even with whatever they are going through right now?

Both my nipples still bleed every time I change the bandages.
I think its normal for one side to heal faster/differently than the other.
My left areola has almost no more scabbing but my right side is a mess.

Glad everything went great for you!

I did spacerace. Traveling was okay but a PITA. I got to the flight very early so it was a super long day for me. :(
However, I was so so happy to sleep in my own bed!!! I have an awesome bed.

Anyway I think you're right Jayr. He was really happy with my right one anyway, made a comment on it. Things look settled down today more or less. I called the office re: pulling the tape off the incision a little bit, and they are having me send a photo to Dr G. I just covered it with a gauze pad and neosporin.

Congratulations!  Today is supposed to be my last day of the areola/nipple care routine.  The left looks perfect, the right nipple has a scab that hasn't changed in looks in the last 6 days, which is a bit concerning.  I am going to take a picture and send to Garramone to confirm that it is ok to stop the daily bandaging.

Will be happy when the whole three week thing is over!!! But happy that surgery and all is done and I am back home. Though when I got back it suddenly became cold outside.

Lost part of my right nipple today.
Half my nipple was basically puss and a black scab,
so when I took off the gauze it came off with it.
Oh well, I'll just say my cat ate it XD

Ouch, anything specific you think was done to cause that in caring for it before the gauze removed it?

Is that a nipple or a scab?? A friend of mine thought he lost a nipple down his shirt. It was a big disgusting scab.

Gosh, I'm sorry.  Maybe you are just joking around, though?

I always carefully removed the gauze.  Garramone said not to pull the medicated square off if it was stuck.  Instead, just get into the shower and the warm water would help it come off.

I think I just got unlucky and it got infected.
That nipple did not look like the other one at all.

Yeah, it was all puss and scabbing.
I think maybe the nipple got infected and it turned bad.
What came off didn't look like nipple, it just looked like puss.
But under the puss/scab it was flat. so I don't know.
Maybe once it heals it'll come out again.

He said to change it everyday for 3 weeks, so thats what I did.
I don't remember being told to just leave it on if it was stuck.
Basically what I did was peel it off slow and gentle.

But I don't really mind.
So many people have weird nipples, its the last of my worries.
And lots of guys don't even have a nipple after surgery either, so its good.

Glad to hear you aren't sweating it too much.  Yes, changing it everyday for three weeks after his removal of bandages (so four weeks from date of surgery).  In terms of leaving it on if stuck, I only meant don't pull it off and instead let the warm water loosen the medicated square.

My one nipple is still flat into the areola and I will be at 5 weeks in two days.  I am ok with it because I figure it will work out.  If it doesn't, that is ok too.
