Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council, said the retail giant's effort had been a "failed experiment."
"In 2006, the company known for its Christian roots did a radical about-face," joining the NGLCC and "selling homosexual-themed products in its retail stores," Perkins said in a news release. "Wal-Mart's liberal transformation angered many in its customer base and prompted several groups to boycott the chain altogether."
"In the end, the broad backlash forced the company to revoke its political agenda," he said. "Hopefully, this latest decision will signal other companies to rethink their liberal leanings."

I'm taking this story with a lick of salt (that's the big block of salt ranchers leave for cattle to lick on to get their sodium and trace minerals...)
FYI
The story comes from Cybercast News Service
It's a service provided by
Media Research Center
America's Media Watchdog
The Leader in Documenting, Exposing and Neutralizing Liberal Media Bias
So that suggests to me they'll be likely engaging in the following practices in support of their cause:
Yadda, yadda, yadda...

QuoteThe Cybercast News Service was launched on June 16, 1998 as a news source for individuals, news organizations and broadcasters who put a higher premium on balance than spin and seek news that's ignored or under-reported as a result of media bias by omission.(From their History (http://www.cnsnews.com/corporate/history.asp) page)
Study after study by the Media Research Center, the parent organization of CNSNews.com, clearly demonstrate a liberal bias in many news outlets – bias by commission and bias by omission – that results in a frequent double-standard in editorial decisions on what constitutes "news."
Yadda, yadda, yadda...

This is a prime example of why a pure democracy would never work for us, a very small minority. You will always have a majority who will not accept the minority. Unfortunately, in a capitalistic society, the majority has an unusually strong control.
I don't care what a retail outlet sells. I only care that they provide equal opportunity for all of their employees. And in the case of a giant like Walmart, they should be providing benefits for all of their employees.
I hope that this news doesn't make its way to the top. I'd hate to see a trend moving us backwards where equal rights in the workplace are concerned.

I totally agree Cindi, but one thing bothers me.
Why the hell would anyone even remotely resembling LGB or T even contemplate working for a corporation based in Arkansas? It makes no sense to me. I'd go and work at the local "quickie" mart first.

Walmart reacted alright to me recently..
I was caught shoplifting..told them my name was Nick, then when I had to give my legal information they found out I was trans. The manager was cool with it..and they let me go. I was shocked since I've heard alot of stuff about Walmarts being harsh towards GLBTQ

It varies. When I worked for them and transitioned, they made sure to let me know that if I even thought about using the women's restroom that I would be fired (came from the Home Office). This was even though the new regional manager I had admitted that until I introduced myself (she only knew me by name) that she never would have guessed that I was trans. Management was not supportive and tried to make my life miserable while I was there (and they did).
Back then I was being paid well (even after my pay was reduced after transition) and the benefits were employee owned, inexpensive, and very good. From what I understand now the benefits are nowhere near as good as they used to be and more expensive.
It is a christian company and they have the usual rules about employee gatherings sponsored by the store. Only seasonal music, no dancing with another employee, no alcohol, yada, yada, yada.
