Brazil and Mexico lead the list for the most reported killings of trans people in the past year, according to a report [. . . ].
The report only includes murders of trans people that can be documented through publicly available information or are reported by local advocacy organizations, and so may not be a complete picture of the scope of crimes committed worldwide. But the map suggests even countries where rights for gays and lesbians have made huge gains remain dangerous places for trans people.

This will be my third year for reading an Obituary at our TDOR. Living where I do, I can pronounce names from the South American areas, so I can do that honor at least. When is this going to get better??

I helped put the names of the people we lost on candle holders at last years TDOR Event in Boston. It really touched my heart. And made me angry that there were so many.

There's many trans deaths that aren't reported. I'm sure if the suicides were included the toll would be higher. I attend TDOR every year. I'm honoring Islan Nettles, a transgender woman murdered about a mile from my home.

We will honor TDOR, and light candles, this Sunday at our local UU Church.

237 - the unnamed 22-year old MtF from Sarasota, Florida, survived the shooting.
"Sarasota, Florida
Joseph Lamar, 39, shot a transgender woman, 22, and a non-transgender man, 19, on January 8th. The woman and man survived the shooting, but both required medical attention. Sarasota Police believe that the shooting may have been motivated by bias against the woman's transgender identity, and are currently investigating this incident."

With that said, there have been several violent anti-trans incidents in the Sarasota area.

I got to the point where the couple had been decapitated and I had to stop. I know it's kind of disrespectful, but I just couldn't go on... What in the name of Bastet is wrong with these people!?

I read a bunch of the names of the lost a bit ago & when I became conscious of my surroundings & myself again, I realized how tense I was, and sick to my stomach, my brow was furrowed--I could feel my anger physically, not just as the seat of my emotions. I might create a graphic to post on my FB page of the descriptions of a few of these people who were murdered. I'm intentionally using some of the harshest ones, not for the sake of sensationalism, but to show people just how transgender people are utterly dehumanized. I'll include a trigger warning--I only have a couple trans* friends on my FB page, but this is going to be intended for the rest of the world. ~V.

If you do, I'd like a copy. I can't really bear to think about it, but their stories need to be told.

What a shame for those people & for all of us really. I try & just tell people I mean them no harm however I've just been a girl since childhood & I'm just trying to be a better normal person. It seems to calm down most everyone.

It's imperfect, as I did it from my 'droid (no working PC at home), and posted to FB--I can't seem to be able to upload to Susan's from my phone, but all of my trans* awareness posts are public access so you can view it there & feel free to share, steal, wnatever.
