Title: Location Location Location

Hi friends :)
You hear business people talk about it all time, "Location is everything"
Unfortunately, There are also people such as Haters, ->-bleeped-<-s and Predators who are also interested in locations... Possibly your location
Please be careful how much locator information you post in your profiles and in forum posts
It's a good idea to limit the location references to generalized areas such as countries and possibly a state/province/territory within a country
The reason being is because many folks post personal pic.s in their avatars which could possibly make them easier to recognize by a hater, ->-bleeped-<- or predator residing within their particular city
The more generalized the locators the better, particularly when it comes to protecting minors
It is our wish here at Susan's Place for all members to be safe, healthy and happy
Love & Hugs

Such a scary heads up?!!?! Is it a one-in-a-million thing or is it quite common? Do you know of individual stories related to people posting localized information and resulting stalkers etc.? (Not that I want to know particulars about the stories, just that it's actually happened/maybe a vague insight)

.jpg images you post can have the physical location "geotagged" in them - this means that the location where the picture was taken is in the metadata, put there by your camera (think: phone pics). Be sure to remove that data from any pics before posting them. Some picture hosting sites have settings to automatically strip that data from uploaded pictures, and there are free ways to do it as well on your computer.
The codes are easily retrievable by anyone viewing the pic and someone having access to that data might reveal a lot more than you planned.

I'm not that paranoid, besides, my avatar was from Busch Stadium, already identifiable. The general violence of north St Louis is far riskier than anything I'm worried about from klan klowns.

Obviously we are concerned for our young people. But remember nothing is private on the internet.
I of course don't care!! But I have taken that attitude in full knowledge.

I probably shouldn't be so paranoid / There hasn't been a trans-related murder recorded in Australia from searching through Google, the only related mention I could find was a trans-man murdering his wife in the 1920's. (Edit: Reading back on my post I instantly jump to the most cynical conclusions/fears!).
As for stalkers, I had one during high school and it has the most hilarious ending - I used to wear ten pounds of make-up to school everyday - and he was constantly abusive/aggressive. His girlfriend found a whole album of photos from my MySpace page saved on his laptop!!! He broke down with all these confessions, He told her he "Preferred the shape of my face" LOL! He seems to have gotten over things though / we even talk a bit now and he's quite pleasant.

Not everywhere is as safe as Australia. Most of our members are not in Australia and live in far less accepting places.

:( Yeah I'm aware of that, I've read about some pretty upsetting recent trans murders overseas :(

I can understand other people being concerned about it. I don't really care. I don't go looking for people to hook up with as far as relationships are concerned. The few people I have met via online forums have been mostly people into the same music and that's all.

Quote from: Cindy on November 22, 2013, 01:25:48 AMMy mentality is quite similar and, fortunately, I live in an area that's less dangerous than others. I say "less dangerous" because Sasha Fleischman was set on fire not far from the seminary where I helped with their TDoR.

I take my safety seriously, but I won't hide either.
