Post by: kellizgirl on November 22, 2013, 12:10:38 PM
I am 42 and I go to my therapist today, if I were to start my transition say right now would it change my body that much or at all?

Even at my age (18/19) it'll take 2-6 months for things to really start going, probably won't be too different for you, just, of course, your results may vary.

Hi, Kelli,

I started hrt at 43. I'm sixteen months in today. I have seen profound feminization of face and body. I wish my breast development were more pronounced, but I do have development and all the signs that breasts are still growing. Changes are subject to the physiological makeup of each person, but they are working. Best wishes. I hope you're as happy on a typical female hormone complex as I have been.

I am 64 and have experienced remarkable changes.  I have more than adequate boobs, an ample round butt and very smooth, soft skin.  My face has changed a lot too.  I've been on HRT for six years.   The rate of change seemed to accelerate in the last year of two.

Nothing much happens for 6 months or so.  It also takes time to see the end result.  Consider this:  It takes roughly from age 12 to 22 for natal born girls to complete puberty.   A 16 year old is nowhere near complete.

Of course bone structure doesn't change, and a bald head won't grow hair.  Your genitals will probably shrink quite a bit, and erections will be gone eventually.  Mine have reverted to about what I had at age 10.

There are several advantages that accrue to the older transwoman.  You naturally have less testosterone, so you don't have to fight that.  If you have much fat, you will have an enzyme called aromatase that converts testosterone to estradiol.  Lower testosterone, higher estrogen, and the feminization process has already begun.  You've got a head start.

The physical differences between man and women naturally lessen as we age.  Men become more feminine, and women become more masculine.  You may never look like a beautiful 20 year old girl, but you could more easily look like an average 40 year old woman.  You will definitely look younger after a few years of HRT.

HRT works, but it takes time.  I am amused by the tales I sometimes see in these forums. "I've been on HRT for  four days and have a C cup!".  That doesn't happen.

Wow! This is an unexpected, yet completely welcome response. And I do have to confess; I am not 44. I'm 45 (as of a little over a week ago).  >:-) Seriously, my wonderful girlfriends (and I hope I can include you gals among them) keep me young.

Best wishes to you, Kelli, Katelyn and "Flo" (I'm kindly naming you),

Jane

I've been on low dose HRT for three months now and have noticed quite a few changes...redistribution of fat (thighs, butt and breasts), softening of facial features, minimal hair growth, change to my head hair, decreases body odor, and softening of the skin. I got back in January for a check up and hope to bump up my dosage. So, as they say, "mileage may vary" but, at 48 (49 now), I am very happy with my progress so far.

Good luck! I would definitely ask your doctor about finestride (sp?) at your age...it will help the head hair a great deal...

Just know things do not happen instantly. It has been said before but I am saying it again.

The first things you will notice will likely be due to testosterone being blocked. Decreased libido, fewer spontaneous erections.

The first thing most people notice due to E is their nipples, the headlights turn on.

Expect at least a week before you notice any effects from E. Likely longer.

I don't exactly believe the age thing.
