This was said to me yesterday evening by my cousin Anita. Her and her husban Paul came by the nursing home to visit his mom who had just been moved in the day before. We had not seen each other in well over ten years. Now I had come out to Anita on facebook back in August so at least it was not a total shock to her.
I had first noticed Paul and called out to him when he was walking down the hall. His reaction was to use my birth name as a question. I replied "Well I use to be called that." He went and caught up to his wife and soon she returned to where I was sitting. She was smiling but I senced she was a tad nervous. We talked a bit about each others' familys, you know just idol chit chat.
Soon I found the topic had changed to my transition. That went really well I think. I told her a quick version of my history.
She took a couple of pictures of me to show her mom, who is now in her early eightys. So if and when she visits me she won't have a heart attack.
It was a great visit and a great way to end a wonderful day. Earlier I had recieved my new Social Security Card. ;D
I need to add that my cousin could not get over how much my face has changed. That made me feel awesome.

That's awesome! Validation from family, or people who knew us well before, is like the ultimate validation.

I wish I could but in all honesty I really don't have a clue. Maybe they see how happy I am. Maybe I am just blessed with having a very open minded family. Your guess is as good as mine.
