You've probably heard the rumor that women get charged less for car insurance. Well, it's true.
I do love this little passage from the Esurance webpage: "If you're a guy, all this really means is that a female clone of yourself would likely pay less for car insurance." I can confidently confirm this statement as 100-percent true, because it happened to me when I changed my gender. Also, I have a written email to prove it.
This insurance adjustment was just the first of many changes in how people treat me. [. . . ] All I can say is that since I changed my gender from male to female, I've felt spoiled. It's hard to really explain why I feel this way with hard evidence and examples, but I remember life being harder when I was male.

My experience is muddled with divorce and a bunch of property changes, but the bottom line is my car insurance went up 74% with no driving related changes(read long term clean driving record.) The changes between the old and new premium were: divorced, no multi-vehicle, no auto-home, gender change, and change of address. It's a bit pointless to run scenarios to determine what caused each change, they happened, the computer spits out the new premium.
My premium is now close to average, instead of stellar cheap I had enjoyed for a long time.
Several discounts may be back in a few years with expected life changes.

A financial reward for changing/correcting genders. Count me in!
It sounded like another TV commercial at first.

I'm going the other way , yet mine went down when I changed gender on my insurance. Maybe there is a trans discount?

Unfortunately, in the UK, that is no longer the case. Insurers are no longer allowed to take gender into account.

My auto insurance premium decreased 19% when my gender was changed on my policy. Then it dropped another 11% with the first adjustment after my 25th birthday. Right now I pay $22/mo for basic coverage on a 2006 Honda Accord. :)
My auto insurance went down $12.50 a month when I changed my gender....wonderful :)
