Title: Weight loss and fat distribution on HRT

I am only a couple of weeks into HRT and have of course been focused on the effects it will have. Along with HRT, I have been on a pretty strict weight loss regimen. When I finally committed to this process, I was 45 yrs old. 6'1 and 297 lbs. Popped my first pills a few weeks later at 280 lbs. As of this morning, I am now at 267...30 lbs down..woot! While my dream number is to see the first digit flip to a 1 at some point, I will wait and see on that. I know from younger days that, when in boy mode, a number in the 240's has worn well on my frame. But being a larger girl, I really hope that thinning out will help me look more feminine. Okok...so the ADD has kicked in...back to the point!...
So I am wondering. I have read that fat doesn't actually redistribute while on HRT, in that it doesn't just move from your belly to your hips. Rather, you will just have new spots where it will collect moving forward. I am actually really blessed in that I have basically almost no beer belly. Natually, I already am a little hippy and also have some extra fat at my chest. So as I lose weight, will it tend to come off slower in the more typically feminine spots? IE hips, thighs, butt, chest, etc? Or is this just wishful thinking?

AFAIK, fat won't just "move" around, it just has places where it is distributed as it is gained (depends on hormones, and other factors). Estrogen will cause gained fat to be gained in a female pattern, while testosterone causes it to be gained in a male pattern. Of course, you might lose some fat in your male pattern areas and gain some in your female pattern areas, but it won't actually be moving, just shrinking in some regions, and growing in others.

Like busting through three pairs of pants! My weight has stayed at about 160 lbs (5"10") but my butt and legs! Then there's the boobs!

Fat won't move, but instead you will lose weight on a pattern that will keep the fat on "female" areas and reduce it on your "male" areas.
So far I have come down from 180lbs to 156lbs in three months (I'm 5"6") and since starting HRT I could notice something very interesting.
My waist got a lot smaller and other female areas like my thighs and butt remained more or less the size they were before...this gave me a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.88 now, getting closer of the female range. When I wear thigh clothes I can clearly see a pear shape :)
My arms and my wrists are getting ridiculosly thin...I had to stop using my watch as it is now dancing in my wrist. My belly got smaller, but it is very hard to disappear with it. I think even when I get thin it will still be there...a nightmare.

Yep...I knew it didn't migrate around, but this affirms my hope...that maybe as I shed pounds, what sticks around might stay where it would be helpful and affirming :) Congrats on your weight loss and good luck in your metamorphosis :)

We are cllse to the same size...I am your weight but am 5'3.5
I have stayed the same weight so far, but have more fat on thighs, boobs, hips and butt than I had before.
I wanna drop down to about 130lbs....about 25lbs less do u think that would be a good idea or not?
I still have too much muscle and would love to have skinny arms like yours

Hmmm to me you already look very thin and very feminine! I am so jealous :)
You can lose muscle mass only by letting heavy exercises aside, but a bit of exercising is highly recomended and healthy!
You only need to change your training pattern from male exercises to female exercises. There are some vids on YouTube teaching exercises to get a more feminine shape, they are really worthy the time! I also think that running and riding a bike is a great way to help achieve that as it helps to lose weight overall and muscle mass on your upper body.
I'd check your Body Mass Index to see if you need to lose more weight. I am pesonally seeking a BMI of 20. Here's a link to a site that offers a BMI calculator: http://www.nobre.pt/902/bmi-calculus.htm

From what I understand, fat re-distribution is the result of the constant small lose-a-little gain-a-little fat cycles that happens on a daily & weekly basis, and takes a while too. But while they may shrink, you will never lose the fat cells from the male areas... And your body will continue to make use of them in addition to your new fat cells in good areas.
Long before HRT, I was pretty big at about 210lbs, but dropped to 150lbs just before HRT.
Since then, fat has slowly been accumulating in female areas ( butt, thighs, boobs etc ), but my belly seems to be the first place fat goes to and comes off from. My weight varies depending on my diet etc, and it's common for me to go up and down by ~7lbs in a week. Alcohol is the killer, and I only drink on weekends :P.
I'll soon get back into a light exercise routine of walking in the mornings. I hope this will encourage more turnover in fat, resulting in quicker 're-distribution. If this doesn't work well, then I might consider lipo for my belly which will let my body put on weight elsewhere.

Me too... I'm 5.5". I have no idea how much I weigh because I don't have a scale. But I had gained weight and was at about 180lbs at one point! Then I got down to 150. I'm thinner now so I don't know. I was always like 125 lbs when I was younger.
I just bought a pair of Old navy Rockstar skinny jeans, and they were an 8 petite, and that made me happy. :) Still have some love handles and a little belly to lose. Hope that HRT will help there.
I think the thinner you can get, the more feminine it is. At least that's how I see it when I look at people. Or maybe I just don't care for over weight females. :P You look great by the way. I'm an old fart, so I have to work at it! lol

HRT hasn't made me loose any weight if anything I gained more. It makes me wanna eat everything in sight lol. I thought for sure it would fill in my hips at least a bit by now but nothing. I did get more fat in between my thighs in 4 areas that I don't want it in. I've given up on the notion that it'll go where I want it to.
Liposculpture & fat grafting here I come!!!

Heh.. I'm just trying to work off the fat I have before worrying about any new deposits lol. ~5' 9" and currently ~193 lbs. Much better than 222 lbs, which is where I was at over the summer. Trying to get down to about 130, and busting my ass on the arc trainer at my gym four days a week. >_<
I am wondering where new fat will go to though... Hopefully not my tummy or legs 'cause that's where it all is now! My butt doesn't need any either. Just to mah boobs please, kthx.

I sure hope over time my body can change some. I have a decent butt however no where close to a normal womans size. Also if you can have you had reduced body hair? Thanks GF.

Oh yea I have tons of changes. Breast growth, soft skin, reduction in body hair & density, my face is fuller and rounder ( It had some help from the extra weight I put on. My estrogen & testosterone levels are in a normal female range. The body hair has reduced a great deal it's softer and less dense. It's sparse and fading on my lower legs, fore arms, and chest, which is great. I'm sure when I get body laser it'll be gone in no time it's all so soft and thin.
As far as anything added to my hips and butt nothing at all. It's weird but that's how it goes. I plan on getting everything sucked out of my gut and put into my hips and butt so all isn't lost. I've accepted that I may not get any other major changes from hrt. It does somethings then the rest is up to the surgeons lol.

I just 180lbs at 6ft. I've still got this stubborn spare tire i cant get rid of, even at 160. I just hope that the spare tire(male typical) becomes easier to come off with the female typical spots more hard.

Very much this! I am at 165 and cant get rid of some "tire parts" either... It looks like as soon it would be gone, I might even have hourglass figure... But I suspect, I would need to overexercise Insanity and get rid of fat in other parts before that tire is gone.

That's me too! 6'2", 180lbs and the spare tyre the bit that won't let go.
I see the endo on Saturday and hopefully HRT will have an effect. I really hope I lose some muscle mass too.

God I would love to see 180 someday. But I am very dedicated to this metamorphosis. I am now down 40lbs and counting. Going slower now, but this process is gonna take a while all around.

I started out HRT myself at 270 lbs. And I really have to say, yes, weight loss on HRT will do WONDERS for molding the body into a more feminine shape. I've lost very little of the fat around my hips, and not an ounce of chest fat, but it's pretty much melted off of my middle. Hormones are very much responsible for the places where fat is stored and where it is burned from. So burning fat while on HRT, it will indeed tend to burn away from the male areas first. (I don't have any research to back this up, just personal experience, and keeping track of my body's measurements on a weekly basis since starting. And I've lost a whopping 5" off my waist, but only 2-3 inches elsewhere, and almost none off of my hips and thighs. Maybe I'm wrong, and the fat would have come off of the same places had I not been on HRT. I don't know.)

That is great to hear. I am really dedicated to weight loss, even though it has slowed since starting HRT. Still, it has proceeded at a reasonable pace and will continue to do so during this reshaping. There is gonna be some pretty awkward stuff during all this...my nipples definitely protrude now, so I have to be mindful of tshirts...trying to grow out my curly hair has left me with a moppy mess...it is awkward to feel this way...some days, I can see the changes and feel my heart swell with hope. Others, I just feel absurd and crazy...a middle aged hrt petri dish putting loved ones through undeserved hardship for my own crazy. Thank goodness for this resource, for women here who can relate, for my wonderful therapist and for the support of loved ones.
Ack...sort of lost the handle on the topic there! :-\
