Just wondering for those pre and post op. do you feel comfortable at any bar or do you stick to the community friendly bars. I personally haven't gone to any bar dressed up yet but it would be fun.

I much prefer to go to LGBT bars, however my favorite bar welcomes everyone. There is a great mix of straight and LGBT people. I will go to straight bars with my bf, but not with any of my friends since they are all lesbians.

I should point out, in New Zealand, most places are lgbt friendly. Unless you're in a small hick town

I only go to bars to play trivia, and nobody has had a problem.  I don't know if the wait staff remembered my previous incarnation's usual order, but my pineapple juice sometimes shows up without me needing to say anything!

doing my best to blend in i just go wherever i want too. not often that i have ever been to  a LBGT event as the place i live doesn't have any :(

I don't go to bars that are clearly LGBT unfriendly, nor do I go to bars in sketchy neighborhoods.  I prefer upscale bars whether gay or straight. 

I avoid drunken groups of dudebros like the plague. 

To be honest, I don't really go to any bars.  I don't mind alcohol (though I rarely drink), but I find most bars aren't really my scene.  Having said that, I really haven't been in many and should probably get out more than I do, lol. 

I have considered going to a gay bar in the past, though I never worked up the nerve.  I've always been shy and the idea of meeting a guy at a gay bar seemed a little awkward to me.  Plus, I was closeted to most people until this year although people usually assumed that I was a gay guy (ha, jokes on them, I've always been straight girl ;))  The idea of going to one would out me on the spot.  I'd be up for going to one nowadays, but I don't see the point.  Most of those places are really for the lgb crowd.  While I'm up for making new lgbt friendly friends (and believe me I could use them) I doubt I could meet anyone in that scene.  Then again, who knows as I'm still living in boy-mode (fem boy-mode but boy-mode nontheless).

I rarely go to bars but I would go to whichever one I felt like. Regular or gay bar.

I had a bad experience once though. My voice still needs work, mlstly when I have ro increase the volume a lot. Like in clubs and bars with loud music...kinda have to shout.

Well once I was with friends (Regular dance club), dancing away and some guy came up and was dancing behind me and slipped his arm around me and seemed to want me to grind, lol.

Well he asked my name and I shouted it out so he could hear....ughh not so good.
He backed off in a hurry after that, lol.

If you can shout and sound female then you're good but otherwise what happened to me could happen to you lol

No such animal where I live, so any bar is the only choice.

Same here!I'm not much of a drinker and have a very low tolerance to alcohol so I don't really go to any bar

I've always avoided gay bars, mostly due to being a musical fascist.  I've never been into the gay 'scene' at all (even though I have a lot of gay/lesbian friends) and don't think I ever will be.  Straight bars don't have that unnecessarily over sexualised decoration and posters plastered everywhere that are just way too tacky/cheesy for my liking. 

I'm very much a "yes we know you're gay, now can you shut up about it, drink and listen to some stonking tunes please" kinda girl.  I suppose it's lucky that I appear to be developing a straight side! 

I'll go anywhere. Depends on the company I'm with. I've been to strip bars on Bourbon, LGBT bars with really awesome drag shows, bars that show theater, mid class straight bars... doesn't matter. Just depends on the crowd I'm with.

Well, I don't go to bars in the first place.

But if I did, I'd want to go to some place I knew was friendly.

If I'm going out with friends who are into the gay bar scene, I'll go. Most of the time I don't feel a need to hang out with others of my type, and everywhere I go is LBGT friendly.
I don't often go to bars, but mainstream is more to my liking. And the music in gay bars is SOOO terrible.

I live in UK, but it seems things are much the same as with US, since I have been a full time TG, I just use all my local town pubs. It's 10 miles to the nearest LGBT area which is The Triange district of Bournemouth, I love it there but drinking and driving don't mix and I can't afford cabs.

Using the same pubs (bars) all the time results in everybody getting to know me, but I feel comfortable even in other towns I visit, in fact everywhere I go. I dress, I would think like most girls on here, in ordinary everyday clothes that most GGs are seen about in, and I just be myself.

I don't frequent bars, but when I do it's always a place with younger patrons (university students) or local business owners.  I used to be able to go to any biker or cowboy bar, but I'd never step into one now.

Hmmm. Socializing is something most people do. However going to straight/gay bars? This is really a thought provoking question. After everything Trans people go through to become the new you, why in the world would you not do or go anywhere you choose? A small note, as a teenager I used to feel I was gay because I was attracted to other boys. Not realizing at that age that all I was, was a girl who hadn't completed herself yet.

I think Dina is spot on.  Everything I have done (electro, laser, trachea shave, lip lift, perfecting manerisms, voice, etc) were so I could go anywhere anytime I please.  That is what I do now.  Five years ago I could not.
