Title: Who else just hates facial hair?
Post by: FrancisAnn on December 12, 2013, 06:01:26 PM
I just hate that stuff. Hate it. I've had 5 sessions & my face is clean some however I wanted to go out tonight & it just feels so wrong to have to shave/cut off hairs then put on makeup.

We are moving as fast as possible with electrolysis & I cannot wait to have a clean nice face. I'm very passable & very comfortable being a woman most anywhere however I just hate this beard stubble, how ugly & stupid.

I just need to vent some steam, so frustrating.

I don't like having it, especially because I have sensitive skin and can't really get a close enough shave where my face lacks stubble (Comfortably).

But I think it can look good, stylistically speaking.

I'm with you 100%.  Two more hours of electro today and there's still more to do.   I've had 55 hours so far and 6 laser sessions and it keeps creeping back.  I still have to shave every other day.  Ugh.

I just needed to vent some, both men & women hate unwated hairs we all know that. One of my girl friends is going to school now to learn how to perform electrolysis then to open her own shop. She could not find a decent job & I suggested the career to her & she is enrolled in school.

It's the worst part of transition, hands down!

Luckily, curable given precious time :)

Not a fan of it on my face at all. 4 sessions of laser have thinned things out and made it easier to shave everyday. I used to (when in denial) keep the few days of stubble look because of sensitive skin and one trimmer being cheaper than new razors every week.
Tried a 3 week beard once and ended up super depressed to the point of not being able to look in a mirror that whole time. I have a photo of that time that I keep to remind me that no matter how down I get I could have been stuck as "him"
That being said I think a little growth looks good on guys

Don't hate it but def. don't like it, I've never had a lot of facial hair but what I do have is combination hair so they are all there to some degree

Black, brown, red, blond and white all mixed upon my upper lip and chin and neck  :P  I can't afford laser or electro so I shave once in awhile, but mostly I pluck...  pluck, pluck, pluck, pluck, pluck!!! Arrrrrrgh!!!  :icon_anger:

It's a plucking annoying daily chore  :P

I'm going to buy my own electrolysis machine to finish off my face... Until then, as per VM, plucking is soo annoying but certainly beats shaving. Actually its somewhat satisfying to rip out those horrible hairs.

It gives me anxiety too!! I've been having laser on the same areas on my face for more than a year now and the hairs still come back every six weeks, although a little less than before. Lost counting and have surpassed the BS saying "10 sessions should be enough", I still shave everyday due to paranoia. You know, it's said electrolysis is the better option but there is only one place I know of in my town and it has negative reviews detailing burned skin so I'm afraid to risk it. If you've achieved at least 80% of facial hair through laser, how long and many sessions did it take you? Maybe the equipment (she uses the popular Lightsheer Duet or something) doesn't work as well for me because isn't laser supposed to be excellent for those with pale skin and dark hair? Am I being ripped off or more time is needed?

If your hair is dark the Tria laser works very well & you can do it yourself. If light hair only electro works, normally.

I've had 9 laser sessions on face 2 on chest and 1 on arms, the hair is all still their except on the face. Arms and chest are very light but if I went unshaven for a month I am sure it would be noticeable...though they are much finer. I have had many hours of electro on my face, with more on the upper lip and chin.....ITS STILL THERE!! I'm hoping 2 more on upper lip will do the trick...this is after at least 6 sessions.

I was not even overly hairy to begin with....I have to laugh at some that have 3-4 laser sessions and say "well I'm all clear of hair now" while this may be true....just wait 6-7 weeks...it will look like you did nothing. The same goes for electro, when I have my upper lip done I am clear for at least a week...then some little buggers show up again. Electro is permanent but one has to remember its only permanent for the ones that have already grown out!

I hated it lots. I'm pretty sure that I hated electro more until it was over though.

No even if you are a good candidate it will not remove all hair...even after 20 -30 sessions...and it's supposedly not permanent!

I am also very paranoid and still run a razor over my face everyday while in the shower...I know I could go at least a week but there are some light ones that I can feel but no one can see.

I have had a first hand experience of knowing my face is smooth....I have had some intimate contact that has proved my skin is in good shape....he actually caressed my face very softly many times!

Me! It is my longest lasting and most troublesome dysphoria. Seven years before I self diagnosed as possible TS, I was 13.at the time my cousin made a comment about how nice and dark my mustache was coming in, as a compliment, I was horrified, and started shaving within the week. Unfortunately to this day I'm still battling my mustache, but I am slowly getting the upper hand via electrolysis.

I've been going slow with a 2 hour session every week because my face puffed up after treatments even with using some ice. And I also complained so much because of the pain & that slowed down my nice lady.  However she recently found something (from her physician) for injections that completely numbs a 1 or 2 inch area & she can zap as fast as she wants & I feel nothing whatsoever.

So I'm taking off the gloves with this fight next week & have her zap more & longer!

Good luck all other girl friends.

My being Native American I didn't have that much facial hair to begin with -but ooohhhHHHaAAaaeeeeeeeggggghhhhhHHHH how REPULSIVE facial hair and shaving is! Over the last year I've aqquired two personal lasers -one for single hairs (eyebrows, etc.) and one that treats up to 60 hairs at a time, and one Flash -n-Go pulse light generator. That makes 3 light based hair removal devices that set me back over $1,700. -And after a year I still have to shave although my hairs are much thinner now. I've gotten rid of what little underarm hair I had and the little hairs on the top of my feet are now gone. My arm hair and leg hair is very fine but it being black, well you guessed it it is noticeable so I'm working on that in between facial hair treatments.

My two worse obstacles in getting rid of it completely are that I'm pre HRT, and my age for the remaining facial hair is turning silver. In fact, 90% of the hair left on my face is silver so I've been using the charcoal dye with my treatments.

Today though girls was a wonderful day for me. Still pre HRT and visited several stores including a Pizza Hut where no one knew me and I was referred to as "maam," and "she." I went in 6 different stores and was accepted totally as who I am and get this -without even the teeniest bit of makeup! -in a black pair of sweats too mind you! yup, Auh natural and being accepted as who you are feels very good indeed. I may even now have the courage to post y'all a photo I feel so good about myself this evening! ;) :D

Can't say that I care for having facial hair. I had a full beard for a decade based on a girl friend telling me that it looked good and then my wife asking me not to shave it.

Now I'm clean shaven and working on getting my credit card paid off before heading back for more electrolysis.

Definitely the worst thing about it is how much time and resources one has to expend on just that.

I had to quit electrolysis when I went to Michigan last May, and my beard slowly became a daily nightmare.  By the time I got back to California in November my electrologist was my second appointment (immediately after blood work for adjusting hormones).  I'm finally getting a little more clear and shaving isn't as dreadful, but I'm heading back to Michigan in a month and this time I'll find a good electrologist someplace.

I hate it, and I have a fairly heavy beard.  :'(

I'm going to start with laser and see how well that works. My facial hair is dark, which is good for laser, but I also have an olive complexion, so hopefully that's not an issue.

To look very clean shaven I have to go a day without shaving, and then save against he grain.

No no, you are slowly getting the upper lip.  ;D

Anyway I do HATE facial hair. I have Spanish ancestry through my mother and I inherited a dark, heavy beard. It has been the longest part of transition, that's for sure. I hate it!

Hang in there dear, these things just take time...I know you know that but the day will come when your problem is disappeared!

Thats the problem when your pre hrt. You have to keep after it. I thank God every day I don't have a shadow. I can't even stand the feel of stubble. It truly repulses me to a level of discust beyond description. I don't think I'd be able to hold on to hopw without my lasers and pulse flash ( flash - n -go).

Oh I've become an old pro at using my machines. The Flash-n-go's the one you got to be the most careful with. If not you can give yourself a sunburn especially using the dye as I have the same problem with the grays/silver hairs. I'm confident that once I start hrt after 6 months or so down the road I'll be on the road to a completely smoothe hair free face.

Hair is probably the most dysphoria-triggering thing there is for me. Body hair, facial hair, my eyebrows... Ugh. Right now I REALLY want to get my eyebrows professionally waxed/shaped but I kinda have to wait until after the holidays.. But luckily my facial hair is like, 80+% gone. After two laser sessions the sides of my face are bare, my neck is mostly bare aside from a few individual hairs, and I have some specks on my chin and around my mouth that still need to come out. I think some of them are still working their way out after the last session, but otherwise my upper lip is still growing a few thin and not-as-thin hairs. Really not nearly as bad as it used to be, but the slight shadow there still bothers the crap out of me. >_< Just glad I'm only spot-shaving like, once a week. My skin absolutely hates razors and I used to cut myself at least once every time.

Next laser session is in a week! Hopefully I continue to impress my laser tech with my progress. :)

It's gotta be the most hated evil.

It's the main thing that triggered my dysphoria when I was 14-15. It's also the reason it took so long for me to finally start my transition. I knew there was no way to fight it on a everyday basis once going 24/7. I hate shaving so when I was younger I'd sit in the bathroom for 2hrs and pluck each hair off my face until it was smooth. It was the only way I felt comfortable enough to go outside as a young woman. I used to hate other girls my age who didn't really have any body hair. They could just throw on some clothes and start hrt and that was it. BTW I still hate those girls lol.

Your comment about your cousin reminds me of one with my mother. When my mustache first started appearing when I was 14 my mother was so excited she actually made me pose will she took a picture. I still feel sad when I think how she was enjoying something that was causing me such pain.

I think you left out the word "having" - as in "who else hates having..."

I love beards - unfortunately having one really wouldn't suit my style, (and in any case I couldn't grow one).

On men they look hot! On women I can see they might be awkward.

Yup... hated the damned stuff as soon as it started growing in the first place. If you ask me, hair should only be one place... on top of the head. And yet of course the incompetent genetic staff in my head had to get my order backwards... as time went on, I was slowly ending up with hair everywhere else except the top of my head. (Thanks for fixing that unfortunate oversight, hormones! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆)

Ashey you know what, I've just always uses a razor and people compliment me about my eyebrows. The thing about waxing is they just come right back! Plucking is about the same. I've also read that as we age our eyebrows thin, which makes us look older...so combine that with years of plucking since the hair eventually doesn't grow back...bottom line is shape your eyebrows but don't overdo it!

Also I'm in Florida! I'm in Jax, how about you?

Hmm, not sure how confident I'd feel about shaving. I'll try waxing first and see how it goes. I'll probably settle on plucking once I know what I'm doing. They just need some thinning out and shaping.

And I'm in the greater Tampa Bay area for now, unfortunately. Lol.

Actually, I really like facial hair..... just not on me.  On a guy that can pull it off, it's very attractive.  ;)

Believe me, I share your pain (emotionally and physically).  My shadow is never ending and irksome.  Thank god that I started laser.  My suggestion is to use pre-shave cream, shaving gel and a really good razor.  The cheap disposables aren't the best and often can iritate the skin.  Although, even those tips do little to completely remove the shadow.  Just something we need to temporarily deal with.

Too willing to join the chorus on this one!  Like LTL, I really do like facial hair on guys as opposed to the sandpaper effect but it all depends on the individual eh?  I had a beard of my own for decades to hide behind prior to self acceptance and transition.  I can readily understand our trans brothers wanting it.

Now, after six laser tx and HRT it drives me nuts and I hate feeling prickly stubble or the glint of a blond hair in the light.  I shave often and plan electrolysis but dislike the idea of hours of snap. crackle and pop.  Oh what  we wont do for smooth skin.....

Maybe this might help others & myself.

My electro lady is in her mid 50's, very nice & a very smooth face. She told me she had terrible facial hair as a girl, she actually shaved on her wedding day, she had to hide from her husband to shave. She was so embrassed she never told anyone. She felt like a freak of a woman. Finally some 15-20 years ago she found some older women that did hidden away back room crude electrolysis. They did not use any numbing cream & kind of just strapped her down on some hard table & zapped away as she cried in pain. It took her months & months of pain & even back then it cost her $2,000 to finally have all her hair removed.

After that experience she learned the craft herself & is now booked solid to help other people remove unwanted hair.

Electrolysis is really the best way to permanently remove hair. It's a shame that it takes so long, and is so expensive though. I have a friend who has an electrolysis business, and she's always telling me it's the best way to go. Too bad she lives thousands of miles from me.

I had a shock when I looked at my unshaven face in the mirror last night (2 days of stubble) and realized a good portion of my beard has turned gray! When the heck did that happen? lol

That's going to make laser less effective as it's only going to get the black hairs. Dammit.

Looks like I have more electrolysis than I expected in my future.  :-\

Why is all this so difficult?
Title: Re: Who else just hates facial hair?

Title: Re: Who else just hates facial hair?

Hated having it for years.  Waiting to do something about it was a mistake.  I had so much white, grey, red and brown that laser had limited effect.  So, electrolysis was the go.  About 85 hours (coming up to 2 years) with 2 techs operating 8 probes each later, I am down to going once every 2 or 3 weeks - 175 operator hours. It is now slower as it is difficult to see the very fine, white to clear hair.  It still grows long though so it has to be done.  I am now having to not touch my face with any sort of shaving tool for at least a week to give them a fighting chance of seeing the hair.  HRT started about 2 months ago and this may have slowed growth a bit too.

Given how thick many of the hairs were, we decided not to use any heat to minimise the chance of any visible damage so it has been galvanic only (hence the number of probes).

Stick with it, you will get to the end.  As I have said to my electroysists, you wouldn't do this unless you really had to - $$$ and ouch!

If you are young with dark facial hair you may want to consider purchasing a Tria laser. They work & you can treat your face & other areas yourself. I've used one & it worked some for me on darker hairs.

I spent substantial monies on laser treatments when I was in my early 20's & it helped remove darker hairs however now you can purchase the same type laser equipment direct.

Good luck young girl.

Its not so much the hair growth itself which seems to be the major practical problem, its more of that dismal grey, tired and shifty looking stain under the skin that is beard shadow. It seems specifically designed to add dubious character to one's face.

I never used to have beard shadow... if I shaved, then I looked like I had no facial hair. Now I can really close shave...and still have shadow lurking under my skin. And that is disgusting, it makes me look like a tramp.

So...hmmmmm laser or electrolysis, decision time me thinks!

I am not a fan or any hair other then on my head. Would be nice to to get laser or electro but I can't afford it. I got a new car payment, and college to pay for and off because I can really afford anything.....this probably includes therapy and HRT.

Back in highschool my friends called me a hobbit because I had hair feet, it was one of the first things I shaved before I really even "knew" I was transgender. It probably the place I had to see hair the most.

Me too! Now when I shave, no matter how close it is, you can see the shadow. And now the shadow is spotty, since a lot of my beard is gray.

I had quite a bit of concealer on in my avatar photo! The sucky part is it makes my skin look bumpy.  :'(

Because of the gray hairs, laser won't get them all. I was actually just looking at buying my own electrolysis unit. They are only about $600. That seems expensive until you factor in how many sessions you need, and people spending thousands of dollars on electrolysis. Being on a budget sucks, but I think I might go this route.

It can't hurt any more than the first time I epilated my arms! My chest hurt even more!

Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal, and works for most skin/hair types, unlike laser which is not always permanent and only works effectively on light skin and dark hair. Electrolysis seems to be more worth the pain and time, given that it is guaranteed to be permanent.

But yes, I too hate facial hair. Plucking is oddly satisfying though, and gets rid of the little blighters for about 2 weeks.

I once spent 3 hours in the mirror doing it, and I have extremely patchy facial hair given the prominence of it in the male members of my family. I'm hoping this has something to do with my testosterone levels, but I'm dreading waking up one morning and finding my face and neck covered in a sea of blackish spikes :(

Perhaps I'll try to get some sort of blocker when I finally see somebody about this next year.

Your face looks very hairless. :)

Mine wasn't as bad when I was younger, but I have progressively gotten hairier. I can't be shadowless, even right after shaving.  :-\

I wouldn't make assumptions. I had patchy facial hair too but my T levels were around 500, which is average. Could just be genetics.

My body is covered in hair and just want it all gone, hopefully since I'm kinda pale with dark hairs lasers work for me, find out at the end of the month. I probably won't get to start HRT until end of January or February though.

Sorry to go a little off topic. But this is very important to me. As far as facial hair though as I put it in another reply, I've spent near 2k on my own lasers and Flash-n-go. $$ well spent however being Native American what I had was light and patchy to begin with. I still have to treat every two weeks though. I'm going to give my devices a little more time as I haven't started hrt yet due to not being able to find a doctor near where I live, but I'm hoping to soon as I have found an Endo within reach, and I'll be seeing a new Family Doctor after the 1st of the year.

Ashley, I noticed your in the 'greater Tampa Bay' area, as you put it. So am I and I'm having trouble finding the right Doctor to get me started on hrt. Could you maybe pm me with some info? I'm north of Tampa a bit but it's not too far to drive -about an hour and a half each way.

Thanks in advance.

I've had good luck with my personal lasers. One is for single hairs I use on my eyebrows, the other and most expensive os one that treats up too 60 hairs at a time. The other device I have is a Flash -n- go, and it does absolutely wonders for those large areas like your arms and legs. If your on a fixed income as I am (I do have a business and work a little part time when I can on the side), In my opinion obtaining your own lasers and even at least one pulse flash device is definately the way to go. Now I have no hair under my arms at all, very fine hair left on my legs and arms, and only the grays left on my face so definately no shadow and I pass easily with no makeup at 50 years old. I've started using the charcoal dye for my grays on my face during treatments and it is helping. About 4 days after treatments the "fallout", as I call it starts to subside and the improvement is very noticeable. It has taken well over a year to achieve these results plus there was the learning curve on how to best use each machine given my skin tone and hair type. I have black hair and a reddish tint to my skin and tan very easily so I do get better results this time of year. I've never had any chest hair to worry about. In a way I'm lucky because of my existing small bone structure and femminine features. ;)

I'm having trouble posting my Avatar on this site. If anyone can help me with this please pm me or post a link with instructions. I thank you in advance. :)

Allyda, I think you need 14 posts or something before you can use an avatar :)

What you wrote has given me courage! I have very dark facial hair and I've been using a home laser for about 2 months. I'm seeing some effects on my face, but I have this personality where I soon begin to get impatient :D. I am not going FT for a good while yet, so I will hang in there and give it time.

Yes I just found that out about the 14 posts.

Yep you just have to give it time. Treat once every two weeks. The in between time will give "fallout" time to occurr. Actually the dat after your treatments it actually seems like all the hairs came back but this is not true. It takes time for your body to expell the root ofand the hair shaft under the skin. As the days go by though after each treatment you'll notice less, and less and what does come back will be much thinner. It takes about 10 to 14 days for "fallout" of the old hair to occurr which is why I wait two weeks between treatments. Inaddition, Lasers and pulse light devices only work on hairs during the "growing" phase. This is another reason you must be patient.

I hope it helps.

Thanks again for that advice. I've been getting impatient and treating every five days or so. I think I need to curb my enthusiasm a bit :D

Sigh...... today is electrolysis day, and so I can hardly look at myself.  The home kit turns my face into hamburger, so I vacillate between looking chewed, blushed, or slightly stubble covered several days a week.  Fortunately shaving lasts a full day without shadow.  Probably have a year of electrocution left.  Teaching me patience, which is frankly sucky

Back for my 6th (I think) session Saturday. My lady has a smart rountine going & perhaps we can finish my upper lip area & all around my mouth. She is using some injections & luckly I have no pain or feelings at all while she zaps away fast. In short I'm getting closer to a clean face, oh happy day!

Good for you, FrancisAnn! :) Another step closer has to feel good :)

A face clear of the dreaded shadow is the one thing that would give me confidence at the moment. I have tried just about everything to hide it until laser works it's magic, but I just can't seem to make it work.

Joan, I had so much laser work done years ago, it helped some but not much really. Electrolysis kills each hair. It's slow however the hairs are dead. Maybe 1/4 of my face is very clean, a few odd hairs do appear that my lady zaps again. Take care girl friend.

So I have been using a Tria Laser on my arms for about a year and it has been reasonably successful (given that I am basically a gorilla).  The hair on my arms and hands has thinned considerably.

That being said, the few times I have tried putting the tria laser on my face, my reaction was "HOLY CRAP that HURTS!!"

I use a Tria on my face I've found two things that help. First start at level 3. It will hurt a bit at first, but once it begins to work and the hair starts thinning out it will hurt less and you can begin upping the power.   Second, use an ice pack. I go : ice pack off - zap - ice pack on. This helps a lot.

After 2 months I'm now up to level 5, and while the beard is still there it has noticeably thinned out. I'm on PT on weekends, so I'm happy to look at this as a long term project:)

Ahhhh, sucks kittens doesn't it! But I'm sure the bumpiness is not as bad as ye think :-)

I've noticed that my body is trying its hardest to be the exact opposite of feminine now that I am trying not to look masculine, its really making an effort after all the years of being androgynous. Good work team XY!  >:(  I guess it's all about making males and females as opposing as possible to aid physical attraction and therefore mating. Woot, I'll soon be absolutely ridiculous in anything feminine and be all of 2.1% more likely to get a date :p Win. Not.

I miss the days when I could grow my facial for my girlfriend (as she liked it) or for when I needed to work behind the bar, but then shave it off when I wanted to be feminine. There was no shadow afterwards, if I shaved, it looked like puberty hadn't visited my face. Facial hair was something I liked to dabble in but then "take off" like a disguise. Now its there all the time, along with the tired-looking grey and the sort of snarl at the corners of the mouth. Makes working in a pub alot easier, but I personally feel like I'm decaying like a building stained with abrasive soot that won't scrub off.

...However.... I still don't feel comfortable removing it permanently... Why? Because is useful to have facial hair at times (see above) and also I feel like I'm betraying the male members of my family be removing the characteristic facial hair we all have. I don't know how to come to a favourably arrangement regarding all this. Any ideas anyone?

I had a very pleasant Electro session today. However we are also using a "NuFree & Finipil" system some. It completely removes hair similiar to waxing however it also removes the entire folicle. It is a warm system & opens the pores so all hair with the folicle comes out so easy.

It may be something others want to look for. It seems very nice for me so far.

I'm having my entire remaining facial hair treated soon to have all hairs & folicles removed. Then we will use electrolysis on more stubborn hairs. I'm also having most all body hair removed wit the same procedure.

Good luck girl friends.

Francis Ann I am interested in your results with the Nufree and Finipil.  I checked out the links and wonder if this is really considered "permanent" hair removal.  I have been down the laser trail and not looking forward to electrolysis.

Thank you so much for sharing a pleasant session tip

I'm sure it is not permanent for my nasty facial hair but it will be nice to have no hair at all on my face for at least a while. It takes out the entire folicle.

My lady is very experienced & uses this on most of her women clients. They all love it. On body hair with each treatment it greatly reduces regrowth. It works so easy, quick & no pain really at all. She can do a pair of legs in 10 minutes at the most.

My lady knows it hurts as she zaps away on each hair. I'm maybe 1/2 way on my upper lip. It still hurts no matter what we use.

This is some reward to at least have a smooth face for a little while. I know it is not permanent.

It seems to work so easy on any body hair. She does complete body hair removal for M & F clients if they want.

Good luck girl friend. My lady hates hair almost as much as all of us do.
