The deadline to get the registration discount for First Event 2014 is December 31st. This looks to be our biggest First Event yet with more workshops, more registrants and more fun and entertainment.
Register here: http://www.firstevent.org/registration/
Volunteer to get free admission to workshops on days you volunteer. You'll still need to register for your room and evening events. Fill out our simple online form by January 19th to volunteer. http://firstevent.org/2013/11/28/first-event-volunteers-wanted-january-22-26-2014/
Registrants will have the option to select bus transportation to and from Fenway Health and South Station if needed this year. Volunteers can also get bus transportation. Everyone wanting to ride the bus *MUST* indicate either through their online registration or by telling the volunteer coordinator prior to January 19th. We have to have a head count so it is crucial.

There is currently a problem with the link on the website for making a reservation at the Danvers Courtyard Marriott. It says no rooms available. However you can still call the Danvers Marriott directly to make your reservation by mentioning First Event. The issue should be fixed so that you can make online reservations by sometime on January 6th (Monday).
We need you! We are still in great need of volunteers in exchange for free entrance into workshops. Bus transportation is also available from Fenway and South Station if you are in the area and need a ride to volunteer. There's a volunteer form on the website (see above)

Non Binary and Non Gender Conforming Perspectives on Life
First Event, Boston Marriott, Peabody, MA.
Sat, January 25, 11:30am – 12:50pm
Shana presents "Non Binary and Non Gender Conforming Perspectives on Life".
An interactive discussion about non-binary perspectives and living in a binary world. Topics to include: Navigating non-binary and/or gender-non-conforming identities in relationships, work, school, daily life, etc. An overview of gender-non-conforming identities, including non binary and/or trans* identities in other cultures. Legal issues for non-binary and gender-non-conforming identities, dealing with identification and documentation, public accommodations (bathrooms), etc. Breaking down our socialized gendered perspectives and seeing the world through non-binary lenses. (Rainbow, Saturday 11:30am-12:50pm)
Shana Aisenberg is a musician and writer, whose life experience happens to include transitioning gender. Shana continues to explore exactly where on the gender continuum she might like to live, and is enjoying her return to being a red-head.
-------
I hope to see/meet other Susan's members there! There are a few other workshops for non-binary and genderqueer, as well as workshops for all trans* identities and interests.

So, how did it go?
It went really well. There were over a dozen people of very diverse identities crammed into the small hotel room. First we went around the room with introductions and PGPs, then I asked some questions that I had prepared, which facilitated a wonderful discussion. We could have easily talked for way more than our allotted 1 hour and 20 minutes. A successful workshop!
