Title: It's interesting how easy it is to get addicted to wearing make up and polish
Post by: evecrook on December 19, 2013, 06:07:24 PM
ever since beginning  HRT, I've been going out with at least some make up and always polished nails. I was in the shower this morning and realized how pretty my hands looked with polish on. I said to myself I don't ever again want to be with out polish. I'm pretty much addicted now. I wonder how hard it is for others to dispense with the nails and face for a day or more.

I never really got into nail polish.. I think its a generational thing? In my country (borat voice) its really only teen girls that wear it, sometimes you might see an adult wearing it at a function, wedding etc.  For everyday I think its pretty gaudy.

make-up though, I pretty much always have a little bb cream, mascara and eye liner..
I'm pretty minimalist when it comes to that stuff though...

That may be true, but I never got a chance to be a teenage girl. :P I've been wearing nail polish every chance I get lately (though not plain red, since that seems a little old fashioned). I don't wear it out though, because yea, it looks a little weird to have glittery nails when you're in your mid twenties, and even then, I want to avoid wearing things in public that would look too weird if someone was reading me as male until I'm sure that's not a big risk anymore.

Speaking of addiction, has the site crashed since you've been a member? Oh, we all fall apart and need a group hug when Susan gets it back up and running again!

Currently most of my make up is out of a form of necessity to hide my electrolysis-ed face. I rarely use mascara / liner / shadow unless there's an event or I've somewhere nice to go. This might change once my skin heals some more though.

Nail polish though... Love it! I regularly change colours as my mood changes, and love how the colour can accentuate my style and outfit. Yesterday was a bright purple... today is a mesmerising blue which shines with me eyes.

I love wearing nail polish.. I almost have some on all the time. I love painting my nails.

My favorite color is red or maroon. I also really love blue as we'll especially on my toes. I have lots of colors. I have come really good with doing French manicures

Makeup.. In never leave the house without at least some around my eyes.. I always wear eye liner and maybe some eye shadow.

I am addicted to makeup and nail polish.. I would say yes

Oh yes IN MY COUNTRY this is true as well ;)
Really - Teens, maybe early twens. And maybe older women from a generation that was more conservative. I am in the generation that was young in the 80ies and 90ies and for some reason that generation was not that much into overly feminine stuff to begin with - though as teens yes of course. But later on - nicely kept nails (polished but not colored) are good, makeup is rather rare and definitely very subtle if at all - even skirts are not that common. All of these ar emore prominent when going out or having an occasion. With the younger girls I see today this is different thoough - seems like skirts are coming back as well as nails (those complex painted artworks) and other more feminine aspects. I dont know if they will last for them into their 30ies, I suspect not for many of them... for practical reasons ;) - But who knows - in some years they will maybe look at my generation (I am almost 40) when we will be older (60iesh) and think of us the same way as we did with our grannies - how odd their style of clothes was - my granny always had these flowery skirts and dresses and light pants. I thought of it as old fashined granny style as opposed to our young women jeans look. Now then we will be that old fashioned jeans look one day and the younger ones will wear their modern flowery skirts and dresses - LOL and then they will think how weird our generation was that we all wanted to look like men. ROFL

Nail polish, yeah, totally. Pretty much since the day I first tried it, I've had at least a little bit of it on somewhere. I can't always have it on my fingernails due to still being stuck as a guy at work for the time being, but my toenails have been pink for the last two months.

Makeup, I guess I just haven't had enough practice to really start enjoying it. So far, every time I've put it on I've ended up feeling inadequate, because I feel like it's bleaching out my face instead of making it look better, and it just looks sloppy. You can tell I'm pretty much a rookie.

Makeup & nails? Absolutely!

I have been getting better at my makeup; when I first began to try it I took some pictures and when I look back on them now I think "clown makeup".  I have an excuse though - I missed makeup class  :D

I love nail polish but there is always drama surrounding putting it on. The main issue is that it won't dry and I wind up hitting a nail on something later on and getting polish somewhere it should not be, and I have to reapply polish again to that nail. So now I have nail polish on my computer, and the table, and on my wallet (I still have to go to work in boy mode), and I've ruined a purse by getting polish on it too. I keep finding it in odd places.....

The times that I've run late because of the non-drying nails I've gone so far as to get out the hair dryer to try to get them to dry LOL.....

I never leave the house without nail varnish, I feel naked without it.
I feel your pain with trying to dry your varnish, have you tried rimmel nail varnish? Most of them dry in 60 seconds & after 2 - 3 minutes they can take quite a bashing. If you go for lighter colours then you'll need 2 coats, If you use a clear top coat then your varnish could last up to 2 weeks before needing to be re-done.

I LOVE nail polish. as much for the process as the end result. when i really wanna get girly my favorite thing to do is paint my toenails. whites my favorite for both hands and toes.

makeup is more complicated for me right now because i really never had a chance to do it right. eye make up and lipstick are nice but im looking forward to the day i can really get into foundation and blush to go with the rest.

the problem primarily for me and makeup is location right now. i  dont know if its a common issue for most but it would probably be rather dangerous for me to go out pretty. gotta weigh the pros and cons and id just as soon not bring that issue to the forefront yet.

I really enjoy the process of putting nail polish on to nails, it's for some reason very soothing cause you have to focus on the movement of the brush, the smoothness of the coat, etc. Not mine, since it would honestly look very weird on me, lol. But when I was bored at Keaira's house and needed to kill some time, I just grabbed her hand and without a word started applying nail polish to all her nails. I was satisfied. She said I did a very good job too, and that was without practice. ;D Though I didn't know about the base coat and top coat and all that jazz so it chipped soon.

Hehe the age old problem of drying nails. Allow me to share a trick... Cooking oil spray. Just spray some of that on painted nails and wait about 5 minutes before washing it off. Unless you went with a thick coat, that will set them :).

As a little (boy) girl I loved to put on my mothers polish, lipstick, perfume, clip on earrings & try out her high heels. It was fun back then & still normal & fun today. It's fun to be a woman. No "addiction", such a crude word.

I loved both at first... but it turns out I'm fundamentally too lazy. :) I still like both, but I rarely bother anymore.

I used to love nail polish when I was younger now I really don't bother with it. As far as makeup goes I don't know if I'm addicted and I don't use it for my everyday look which I use just bb cream and mascara. Now for more special occasions and I use as little as possible and can get away with just concealer, foundation, mascara, and bronzer.  :)

I'm gonna screw this one up, except for the few weeks before and right after SRS, I had been having acrylic nails and industrial strength polish on them since I went full time.  I would not know my hands without them.  I had to take the acrylics off for surgery since they needed my fingers available for monitoring devices, and that was horrible.  Having your hands worked on while getting a pedicure is Nirvana. Make-up is the same as toothpaste now, gotta have it or people could die!!

It is no addiction as long as it is fun but you also could without being too much affected by such an occasion go for some weeks without it. In that sense Vicky may be addicted to artificial nails ;)

Geez all this talk about all this girly stuff here, dresses, skirts, nailpolish, makeup - almost makes me want to try some of these things again... :D

I just love polish. I keep my toes painted 24/7 and sometimes my hands too. I love seeing the reaction on ppl's face when you are a masculine looking guy, with black and blue "crackle" nails. Makeup on the other hand, i love its effect, but the process is just so tedious for me.
