Title: Do you think you will transition in the future?
Post by: Nero on December 23, 2013, 11:24:32 PM
Hey all,

I'm glad to see this forum blossoming!
I'm curious how many consider non-transitioning to be a permanent or transitory state for them. Feel free to elaborate. No judgment at all. I don't believe transition is the right path in every case regardless of gender identity.

Well you know how people say, "never say never!". But I'm probably one of the never ones. Unless something really wacky happened I don't see myself ever having any of the surgeries or going on HRT. For me, it's just too much of a bother. Maybe if I'd had the opportunity early in life things would have been different, who knows.

Ok, changed the poll slightly to allow for the 'never say never'  :)

I'm glad to see this forum blossoming too!

I didn't vote in the poll quite yet because I'm not sure how to answer so I figure I'd vote after I'd type my response.

Ideally, yes I do have plans on transitioning.  If I live long enough, then I intend on carrying those plans out.

However, to what degree of transitioning and defininig it, that's still a blur.  I know my first step in my transition is to get top surgery because I'm more likely to afford that than T right now, but I still plan on living as a female for an undertemined amount of time.  I suppose that would be a "partial" transition, maybe?

As for hormones: It is my plan to start in 3 years perhaps, sometime after top surgery (assuming I can get medically cleared to take T).  Ideally, couple of years after that I would like to get bottom surgery, but that will largely depend on if I can get my weight down to normal range.  I'd like to think I can, but if I am to be real with myself, I'm such a huge procrastinator that it probably will never happen, or it will take a lot longer than a couple of years and I might have to spend a lot of money for a professional to help me that it would make saving for bottom surgery nearly impossible if I can't get it covered by insurance, but like you said, you never know!

I would *like* to have everything completed by the time I am 30.  How I will do that, I'm not too sure, but one thing is for certain: I don't want to live as a female for the rest of my how.

You would think I would know how to vote after typing this, but honestly, I still don't know which to pick because my transition and how far I will go depends on a lot of things.

I voted no. I'm pretty comfortable with the occasional presentation as a woman. Cindy will probably kick me in the ass and tell me I'm still in the denial phase!

Hugs, Devlyn

It was a close call between hoping not to ever and likely to but you never know. The realist in me coming out perhaps?

Over the past several years of personal growth and self-acceptance I've actually been able to feel that a lot of the great things in my life are deserved. I earned them and not some faker, not the "Real" me. Yes part of me was and still is trapped inside. Yet she has always been a big part of who I am in all aspects of my life.

The realist says "You know where your true joy lies. You lived (part-time) the lifelong dream of being seen as and accepted as a woman". The realist also knows there is a few more years before trying that is feasible between my personal and financial commitments which I also need to live up to

I have money (not rich though), guaranteed access to health care now (ACA), and am about to retire.  Have been on hormones forever and had the beard removed.  My wife is fine with transition.  What holds me back is simple acceptance.  Move to a more liberal area?  Central Florida is a conservative nightmare.  I'm not young anymore and I don't know if I can stand up to harassment.  I do intend to get an orchi if only so I can cut back on the drugs, but don't really consider that transition.

I'm caught in the classic transition or relationship vicious circle. Both are things I cherish and desperately want but at present just seem incompatible.

Given the chance or courage, I would start on that path tomorrow.

At this point I have no desire to transition but I haven't closed the door to the possibility.

For many years I was content with occasional crossdressing however during the last few years my desire to transition is increasing. I have been doing a lot of research about HRT and I am thinking about starting to see a gender therapist to get this going. Still really thinking though.........

Hi ... I think the definition of "a fairly permanent state for me" applies ... Since I had BA and SRS 28 years ago, but continue in my male role as a Dad and a husband with a completely understanding wife.

Given that so many people in these forums have told me that GID is a one-way ticket to transition, I guess the only answer that I can give is "I have no idea at this point" -- right?

There have been decades during which I could "never" figure out what was troubling me.  When I knew then I still could "never" transition as I could "never" deal with it and would "never" be passable.  People would "never" understand and I would "never" be happy.  Once in transition I was still sure that i would "never" feel like a woman but i "never" felt like a man either.

It is important to me to now add loads of sweet sauce to my words as I have had to eat so many of them.  ;D ;D ;D  The one word I have eaten the most is "never" second only to "always."

One thing we can be certain of is CHANGE

Never forget and always remember that.    He he He, chortle

Time will tell, I'm waiting to see how my experiment with HRT goes before doing anything permanent.  Loving E tho, doubt I'll ever quit that.

Oh YES Tessa ... They are here for keeps.  They've been with me for almost half my life now.  They're not going away ... Ever ... Regardless of the status of everything else.  Besides, since I also had SRS, embracing any other form would make no sense at all!  Roberto.

Maybe I need a definition on what constitutes transition.  Does it mean srs?   I voted #1 but I don't intend to ever have surgery.  But I am 2 years into a 5 to 8 year plan at the end of which I intend to go full time.  I've been on hormones for awhile, I'm working on my voice and have started laser.  When the time comes that I can go full time I want to be totally ready so I only need to change my name (presuming that I can).  At that point I would consider my self transitioned.  Of course there will still be a M on my drivers license and technically I'll still be a male.  So should I have answered #2?

I second Julie's first thought.  It depends on what "transition" is defined to be.  If it is a SRS surgery, or even taking hormones again, that might never be in the cards for me.

If it means abandoning my male façade for something that better suits my gender identification, yes, I am all for that.

I want to full transition. Get rid of the extra weight if ya know what i mean.
I hope to start hrt in the next couple months. Then get srs. I hope thats all the surgery id need tho.
Basically im at peace with this. Ive come to terms with who i am and i know i can get surgery without a major compromise in my faith. Its my choice to live as my brain feels. And i plan to do it well. :p

Went with leaning towards no...

As long as SRS means sacrificing a new car/down payment on a house type money, no. If the US government were to make it free, or I were to find myself so rich that the cost was not an issue, maybe. I still have no interest in HRT without SRS, this seems an unpopular opinion here, I'm not against people who do it, I personally just only care about genitals, and tend to ignore secondary characteristics...they just aren't important to me...

I'm kind of still in the "questioning" state, so at this point anything could happen for me.
If I decide that transitioning is my path then I'd most likely do hrt. As for surgery, I don't think I could go through with bottom surgery. I may be open to ffs, but I'm not entirely sure it's for me either.

To be completely honest, after coming to this site and doing other researchey stuff I think I'd lean more toward "femandrogyne". Tomboy in a mans body I guess, heh.

Similar, although I'm fairly certain HRT has done something permanaet to my chest already (& probably my fertility, too).

The positive emotional & mental effetcs from the HRT are too great to relinquish.  But I may never do more than that.  At the moment I am "leaning towards yes", since it is beginning to look like I may have difficuly presenting as male in the summer months.  The fearful part of me is still hoping I can, while my (much smaller) practical side is getting a contingency plan ready for the opposite.

Right now I am very comfortable where I am.  If this remains comfortable, then I see no reason to change anything.

I'm waiting until I retire (12 months to go) before I do some FFS and then do a RLE experience for 3 months or so and see how things go.  After that period I'll make a decision.  Summer of 15 should be interesting.
