The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF) is representing Farmer in a suit against the restaurant, but Farmer is not a transgender individual. She was born female, and fully identifies as a woman.
"Discrimination against transgender people, or gay men and lesbians who do not conform to gender norms, has no place in New York City," said Michael Silverman, executive director of TLDEF.
He and Farmer held a press conference Monday, July 2, outside the restaurant.

This is similar to a case several years ago in St. Paul, Minnesota. Security guards at the Excell Energy Center abused a lesbian patron who was using the lady's room, claiming she was a man. They settled out of court.

Thanks for staying on top of this story L.I.T.
It's sooo important that the people here that peruse the news understand that they are not the only one's dealing with this kind of thing. It is simply not that unusual. I think that the only reason that I usually don't get accosted is because I have a higher voice than a lot of dykes, which usually makes people people back off if they are unsure of my sex. All the more ironic, because plenty of men have "high" voices.
Personally, if it happened to me, I'd probably have stood my ground and gotten arrested.
Her case will go much further in fixing this problem and raising awareness.

The restaurant is about half mile from where I work. I have been reading about the story. The negative attitude of the bouncer was disturbing.
